    Read the Bible in One Year

    January 1

    This is the day the LORD has made;

    We will rejoice and be glad in it.

    Psalm 118:24

    As we begin this New Year, let us not just celebrate for a day, but let us rejoice in Him each day — for He is worthy of our praises. Let us begin each day renewing our hearts and minds with His Word. In that personal time with our Lord, let us truly get to know Him, for He is our Lord.

    Dear Heavenly Father, help me today to rejoice in the newness of this year. Let me remember to rejoice each day, for you have made this day!

    January 2

    But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;

    Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;

    Let those also who love Your name be joyful in You.

    Psalm 5:11

    When we put our Trust in Him, we have reason to rejoice, for He will be there for us as we have need. He will give us reason to rejoice and SHOUT FOR JOY! forevermore!

    I choose to trust in your name this day, Lord God, for you are my defender and nothing can come against me. I will rejoice in your mighty name, the name of Jesus.

    January 3

    Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

    Give heed to the voice of my cry, my King and my God,

    For to You I will pray.

    My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD;

    In the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up.

    Psalm 5:1-3

    Oh, how wonderful to rise early in the morning and sip my coffee with the Lord. How precious, to start my day with nothing but Him. When I look up through the trees I can almost see Him smiling down at me, accepting my prayers, hearing my voice and being glad that I am spending time with Him.

    Father God, as I begin this day and every day, let me find myself looking up to you and pouring out my prayers, from my heart to yours.

    January 4

    Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

    For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.

    Hebrews 11:1-2

    When I cannot see that which the Lord has for me, it does not mean that He does not have it for me. I must trust Him to bring it to pass, that in His time it will bring forth a good testimony.

    Thank you, Lord, that you have plans for my life that will come about when I have faith in you, when you are ready for me to receive them.

    January 5

    By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

    Hebrews 11:3

    Digging into the Word of God, I find so many things that give me cause to rejoice. He created everything, even that which I do not understand. He chooses when to make things visible to my eyes, to my life. If I let Him, He will reveal them to me. My job is to allow Him to work in my life, to listen to His Word and to follow after Him. He will, in time, reveal that which is the desire of my heart, that thing that I am hoping for — if I trust Him.

    Dear Heavenly Father, help me today to trust you to reveal to my eyes only that which I am ready to see, to know, to live.

    January 6

    For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.

    Hebrews 10:36

    We need to remember that when the Lord promises us something, He will bring it to pass. Our part is to trust Him to do so, as long as we remain in His will for our lives. He will not fail us! Ask yourself these questions each day: Am I in the will of the Lord for my life? What can I do to stay in His will?

    Dear Lord, teach me to do your will. Help me to continue in my trust of you and help me to know your will for my life.

    January 7

    I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

    Revelation 3:15-16

    Imagine tasting some sour milk. The first thing I do is gag and then run for the bathroom! Is your Christian walk like sour milk? Did it grow lukewarm just sitting around? God says He would rather you be cold or hot, but never lukewarm; otherwise, just like sour milk he will spew you out!

    Light me on fire for you today, Lord. Let me ever hunger for your presence, relying totally on You and sincerely spending time growing with You.

    January 8

    So Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

    Matthew 17:20

    When I was just beginning to write to my future husband as his friend, I prayed that the Lord would show me whether or not He planned to bring us together. When He answered, YES, I had to have the kind of faith to move mountains in order to believe for him to become my helpmate.

    Dear Lord, help us to trust in what you have told us will come to pass. Give us that mustard seed faith.

    January 9

    Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

    Matt 11:28

    At the end of a long week in which I had an evacuation for a fire next door, a broken down car and ran out of oil for my stove, I realized the true meaning of His rest. He had given me rest by providing a peace during my troubles. Though I still endured the hardships, Jesus gave me the peace to be able to continue on, to rest in Him knowing that He was providing all my needs!

    Dear Lord, thank you for allowing me rest in your loving arms.

    January 10

    He split the rocks in the wilderness,

    And gave them drink in abundance like the depths.

    Psalm 78:15

    He wants to give us an abundant life; things we have only dreamed of, water in the dessert, such an unfathomable thing. Do you have a dream you are waiting to see fulfilled?

    Heavenly Father, thank you for my dreams, and thank you that someday they will be fulfilled, in your time, not mine.

    January 11

    Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;

    But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

    Psalm 20:7

    In my young adulthood, people would tell me to go out searching for a husband in bars, or pick up places, but I chose to search the Lord for my future husband. Can you trust Him to bring you your desire that you may ‘boast’ of His good works and not your own? Give Him your hopes and dreams and He will give you reason to boast!

    Heavenly Father, help me to forever trust in you, that I might boast in your goodness.

    January 12

    This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

    John 15:12

    Jesus loves us unconditionally. Now it is our turn to love one another, no matter what, no matter whom, unconditionally – without any ifs, ands, or buts – no conditions. Just love them! Just love them, and while you’re at it, just love them! He can help you if you ask Him to. It is not a matter of choice. It is a command, an order from God above.

    Lord, help us to love one another without making a list of requirements for the person to receive our love. Help us to just love them as you do.

    January 13

    "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

    If you ask anything in My name, I will do it."

    John 14:13-14

    Anything? Anything! My Lord has said ask ANY-thing in His name. I asked him to bring me a helpmate, peace, Love, and He has brought me them all! What are you asking the Lord for? Are you asking it believing He will do what He said? Are you asking it in His will?

    Heavenly Father, thank you that you will do all things I ask, In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

    January 14

    A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

    Matthew 12:35

    Do evil things come out of your mouth or are the treasures of your heart good things? I pray that the Lord would help me to keep good treasures in my heart, that only good would come out of my mouth. If I stay in His word, it will be so. If I spend my time putting things in my mind that are evil, scary, unclean or vulgar then that is what will come out of my mouth. I would rather stay in His word and keep the goodness in me, that goodness would come out of my mouth.

    Heavenly Father, help me to hide your word in my heart that I might bear good treasures, and show forth good fruits – not evil, or corrupt in thought or deed. Fill me with your Spirit that my treasure will be you.

    January 15

    O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory. Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise You, O LORD, among the peoples,

    And I will sing praises to You among the nations.

    Psalm 108:1-3

    In the early hours of the morning I enjoy arising to greet the Son with song, rejoicing as a new day has begun!

    Heavenly Father, thank you for your Son rise! Thank you for the music! Thank you for being here to praise! Amen.

    January 16

    I will love You, O Lord, my strength.

    Psalm 18:1

    In the days when I feel most feeble-minded, most weak in body, those are the days I need reminding that He is my strength. Without Him, I can do nothing! I can receive that reminder in His Word, if I only look. Have you looked in the Bible today? Try finding this Psalm for starters, then go from there! Devotions start with one scripture but they do not have to end there.

    Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me strength, thank you for letting me love you, and thank you for your ever-encouraging Word!

    January 17

    The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;

    My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;

    My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

    Psalm 18:2

    When I am weak, He is strong, when I am in doubt, He grants me faith. Yet, I still have to remind myself daily to TRUST Him. He will not forsake me. He will keep me protected on all sides! My prayer is that I, too, will gain trust in Him daily, that I will know that He is my shield and my stronghold!

    Heavenly Father, thank you for being my strength and my stronghold. My trust will be forever in you! Help me to continue to trust you with more of me.

    January 18

    Sing to the Lord a new song,

    And His praise in the assembly of saints.

    Psalm 149:1

    Sing a song of praise today to the Lord. Tell Him of all the wonderful joy He has given you! Worship Him! Just lift your voice to Him in thanks, and praise. He doesn’t care if you carry a tune. When we sing from our hearts He hears a sweet, sweet sound and He savors it! Sing it out from your heart if you are where you can’t sing out loud, but sing a song of praise, of adoration to Him, for He is worthy!

    Heavenly Father, I Love You Lord, I will praise your Name wherever I am. Whatever I am doing, I will sing praises to you.

    January 19

    My son, give me your heart,

    And let your eyes observe my ways.

    Proverbs 23:26

    Oh, that I may give Him my heart, for it holds the depth of my being. All that I hold dear, all that I grasp near, I long to give it to Him! I gave Him my dreams, and He returned them fulfilled. Does He hold your heart in the palm of His hand? Or, are you keeping it back for fear it will be broken? I implore you to give it to Him today. He will handle it with the utmost care. And when He returns it, it will be brand new!

    Heavenly Father, I give you my heart, treat it well. I know you will help me to give you all that is in it too!

    January 20

    Make me walk in the path of your commandments,

    For I delight
