- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5In the vein of "CDB," this puzzle book substitutes numbers in place of words and parts of words. Clever.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is humorous story that uses numbers and letters together to create clever phrases!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Wumbers is a fun little book that shows children and Adults that numbers can substitute letters in different words. When first reading this book, I had a little trouble pronouncing some of the words. I had to read it twice to really get the full affect of the word combinations. The illustrations are bright and fun with caption bubbles to show the characters words/actions.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So clever! My children, 7 and 4, loved this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A participatory plot less pursuit presenting clever phrases created with words and numbers, this picture book will actively engage all children grades first through fourth. The engrossing fun starts and ends with the endpapers of the book through a series of unrelated “Wumbers” that will trigger phonological skills and number awareness for the reader and listener. It might take a bit longer for some children to understand the “Wumbers” as they are skillfully offered in conversations among children, but the “resul10t” reward will be “g8”. Energetically illustrated drawings offer clues to the puzzling phrases with cartoonish humor. These brightly colored ink and pastel “coloring book” images depict children and adults of varied ethnicities, which may help to encourage more participation in a diverse read-aloud setting. Adults should be aware that one of the double-page vignettes portrays a conversation between children in Heaven. Not for the new reader, this fun, yet thought provoking book will prompt children to enthusiastically create their own “Wumbers”, effectively training the next generation of text messagers.
