Caleb Black’s world is falling apart, he’s on the run after a body is found in his apartment building – and he’s the main suspect. And to make matters worse the dead are talking to him, and he’s being chased by strange men with tattooed foreheads with powers beyond explanation. The key to all his problems is a set of tarots that a vagabond old man gave him. All he needs to do is find a fortuneteller named Mamma so she can guide him through the madness. An ex-girlfriend is also on the scene, but she just brings more questions than answers.

Prologue

GODS WATCHFUL EYE

Myth and legends have a way of being changed down through the ages. Truth becomes legends. Legends become watered down and become twisted, turning into a myth. Myths become simply stories, and soon even they are forgotten. Everything becomes just a tale to keep the children entertained – just another bedtime story.

But like most myths and legends, they all have their origin somewhere. Something happened that others decided – for some reason – to remember, write down in the annuls of their time. When a race is destroyed, or decimated by plagues and suffering, their stories are usually saved for archaeologists – with old cardigans with leather elbow patches. If the race had no way of recording their exploits, then their stories perish along with them, forgotten in the mists of time.

Time also distorts the truth, blends it into a myth, mingled with a touch of legend. Pictures are carved into stone or clay. Words are written on parchment or inked on paper, saved for future generations. Some are twisted and changed by others, depending on what’s needed at the time.

A good example – the Bible was written thousands of years ago by over forty different men, from farmers, fishermen, a tax collector, a doctor, prophets and kings; over a period of sixteen hundred years, they toiled. How much has changed? How much is original? How much has been manipulated by man for his own purposes? And how much is missing or been added to? What is truth? What is legend or myth? How will we ever know? And incidentally, who owns the copyright for the Bible? Who gets the royalties?

Most people no longer view God as a real entity, a personification living in the heavens. Many on this world believe in a God of some kind – for there are thousands of different Gods in over four thousand different religions on this spinning ball of dirt. All the religious humans worshiping in the way they deem fit, doing according to their inner spiritual voice.

From about two billion – almost thirty percent of the worlds seven billion population – live by the Bible, claiming to be Christians; even though most have never put a foot inside a church before.

But now there are so many other books to live by, tell you how to act, to tell you what is right or wrong, according to the words scribbled onto the page, always by the hand of man, but supposedly inspired by a particular deity.

Islam claims around one and a half billion of the worlds religious. Buddhism another five hundred million to one and a half billion. Hinduism, almost one billion. Leaving around ten percent of the world’s population to anything other than the four major religions.

Millions die each year for religious beliefs, wars, and genocide. Giving their lives, or taking others all in the name of God: their God. But would a God – who created all – want blood to be poured out in his name? Would a God allow this world to become so polluted with hatred and anger, misery and suffering? Would a loving God care about the millions who die from malnutrition and wars? Is there a reason why God has turned His celestial back on mankind, a species He created?

Yes, there is a reason, and it has a name.

His name is Satan.

Satan once held a privileged position in the heavens as one of the seven archangels, second only to Archangel Michael (known on earth as Jesus) and who – through greed and lust – was thrown from the heavens down to earth. Earth is now Satan’s prison, his playground. God gave him a period of time to answer the questions he raised.

We live in that time. The time of the Dark One, The Lord of Night, Satan, Beelzebub, The Adversary, The Accuser, The Slanderer, The Original Serpent. He has many names, and many disguises, and many different means with which to manipulate mankind to do his will, to turn them away from the one who created all, and to take billions with him when God steps back in to take control of this rotten, polluted world – Satan’s world. Because for now, Satan is the God of this System of Things. The Almighty Creator is reduced to a mere spectator.

Second Corinthians chapter four verse four states: Satan, who is the God of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe.

A war is raging that most don’t even realize exists. A war of the Gods. The age-old story, good against evil, hatred against love.

God sits and studies His world, sees all, but does nothing. Nothing major that is, but He does manipulate small things, changing aspects of people’s lives. A small adjustment here and there. His true angels – those who kept their original positions – still carry out His will. However, time was given and no major pieces can be moved, until the allocated time. Only small nudges and pushes, keeping the faithful on track. Keeping the Celestial Chess Game in play. Black and white. Good and bad.

Time is closing in.

God’s son was sent to earth to warn a world of unknowing man. With Satan’s interference, and pushing, man killed his only begotten.

Time has passed, over two thousand years.

Time is almost up.

Both sides position their pieces for the final conflict.

A war for souls is now raging.

He struggles against the mighty chains but cannot free himself. So the others that left their heavenly positions – those who now serve the Dark Lord rather than the Creator – do his biding. They are his eyes and ears, his feet and wings, his soldiers fighting his side of the battle, misleading mankind, confusing, and destroying spirituality, replacing it with greed, lust and pleasures.

There are many pieces to the puzzle.
