I am a retired male nurse, married with three grown up sons, who have all left home to pursue their own interests in life. My wife and I moved from Toowoomba in south east Queensland in October 2015 to Brookfield a suburb in Brisbane Queensland (QLD). We made the move to be closer to family. In December 2018 we moved to Nundah Queensland to move even closer to family. Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland. Queensland is famous for the Gold Coast and the Great Barrier Reef. Brisbane is situated on the Brisbane River and is known as the 'River City'. It is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city. I am a Christian and I fellowship with like minded Christians. I enjoy writing, reading my Bible and Christian books. I tend to read non-fiction books in my spare time. My interests are my family, writing, bible study, beach walking, car touring, gospel preaching and bible teaching.

Preface

There are many, many references to the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, in the Holy Scriptures. These study notes will concentrate on New Testament Scriptures. The verse references will be set out in their New Testament book order. As you will see from the Table of Contents this eBook is written in note form. My aim has been to keep subject matters short and sweet. To try and cover all the subjects in depth is well beyond the scope of this eBook. My goal is to set before you the work and person of the Holy Spirit. As you read each note, pause and reflect on that particular facet of the Holy Spirit, or His work. If these notes stimulate your thoughts and meditations then that is an additional bonus.

From the outset I want to emphatically state that the Holy Spirit is God. The Holy Spirit is part of the Godhead. [God the Father - God the Son - God the Holy Spirit]. Matthew 28:19, ...baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. He therefore has all the Divine attributes. [Omnipotent - Omniscient - Omnipresent]. He is not an 'it', or just an influence. As an inseparable part of the Triune God, He was instrumental in the act of creation. The universe is His handiwork.

In the Holy Scriptures the Holy Spirit is called by many names; for instance in the New Testament, He is called:

The Spirit of the Lord Luke 4:18

The Spirit of truth John 14:17; 15:26

The Spirit of holiness Romans 1:4

The Spirit of life Romans 8:2

The Spirit of Christ Romans 8:9

The Spirit of adoption Romans 8:15

The Spirit of the living God 2 Corinthians 3:3

The Holy Spirit of promise Ephesians 1:13

The Spirit of Jesus Christ Philippians 1:19

The Spirit of grace Hebrews 10:29

The Spirit of glory 1 Peter 4:14.

[All Scriptures quoted are from the New King James version (NKJV); unless otherwise noted. Words enclosed in [ ] are inserted for clarity. Words in bold type emphasise a point. You may notice some verses are quoted with ... at the beginning, ending or elsewhere in a verse. Only the relevant part or parts of the verse, that relate directly to the current subject matter is quoted.]

Let's begin our study notes. What sorts of discoveries await us?

Matthew

Note 1 : Matthew 3:11

Matthew 3:11, "...He [Christ] will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire." John the Baptist foretells of baptism with the Holy Spirit. John the Baptist baptised repentant Jews by full immersion in the waters of the Jordan River; but he spoke of the Messiah [Christ] who would baptise them with the Holy Spirit.

Note 2 : Matthew 4:1

Matthew 4:1, "then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil." In this verse we see Jesus the perfect, holy man led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness after His baptism by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. However, the testings came after Jesus had fasted for forty days and forty nights - when physically His body was at low ebb. It was then Satan came to tempt Jesus. After Jesus' victory over Satan, He commenced His public ministry to the nation of Israel,
