About this ebook

A Britz campervan for two weeks, blue skies above, plus the freedom of the open road! Mix in road trips in one of our favourite destinations, South Australia and we have the ingredients for an interesting campervan holiday. Add in the flexibility of destinations and venue choices and we were on a sure fire winner.

The journey starts by flying from Cairns QLD to Adelaide SA, there we would pick up our Britz campervan and drive around in SA for two weeks before flying back to Cairns. We had been to Adelaide previously in 2002 with our Ford Falcon sedan, towing our Jayco Eagle caravan. This time we wanted to explore new territory; with a visit to the Eyre Peninsula and then a visit to the Barossa Valley, a world famous wine producing area. Hiring a campervan would be the ideal way to do this as we would not have to pre-book any accommodation. We could go wherever we chose and even free camp if we so desired.

Have we whetted your appetite? Come along and enjoy the ride.

    About the Author

    Arno Bay - South Australia

    Preamble

In July 2005, my wife Rachel and I decided we would fly from Cairns in Far North Queensland to Adelaide in South Australia, for two weeks holidays in September 2005. Jetstar Airlines was about to inaugurate a direct flight from Cairns to Adelaide and was offering cheap seats to get the service up and running. We had been to Adelaide previously in 2002 with our Ford Falcon sedan towing our Jayco Eagle caravan. Those events are covered in my eBook, 'Closed On Tuesdays'. We subsequently sold our caravan in 2005. Our options were: (a) hire a motor home or hire car (b) what sort of accommodation to consider (c) whether it was feasible to drive our own car instead.

After some internet searching and comparing costs we decided on a fly/drive holiday; so on Saturday, 23-Jul-2005 we booked our airfares over the internet on the new Jetstar service from Cairns to Adelaide. Departure would be on Saturday 3-Sep-2005 and return would be on Saturday, 17-Sep-2005.

On Monday, 25-Jul-2005 we spent the day doing costings for the Adelaide trip. Would we hire a motor home, a campervan, or a rental car? If we went for a hire car would we book motels or cabins in Tourist Parks? By day's end we had booked a Britz campervan for 14 days hire, via RACQ
