Chapter 1
Years after the empire had formed and crime had pretty much been wiped out, evil still existed but it had taken a new sinister being, criminals were much more intelligent and corporations threatened the peaceful order.
Hoping to find work and escape the politics of the new federation many people flocked to the stars as humanity reached out to conquer the rest of the galaxy and beyond. Here on this transport hundreds of people such refuge as they made their way to terra-form a planet far from home, here in the cold comfort and silence of space they hoped to start a new life but no matter where you go evil has a way of finding you.
The three giant transport ships creaked in the cold and lonely windy silence of space (their eerie sounds lost to the vacuum), stars and far off galaxies’ dotted the scene around the ships as, slowly and patiently, they stayed their course.
The ships’ tunnel methodically in hyper-space heading toward a distant rock covered planet, the lone pilot of all three of these ships’ is an android remote piloting all of them from the lead-ship control console, the silver body of the android shines brightly from the light of the twin suns’ of this galaxy, this blinding light is gleaming through the giant window just in front of the control console, creating a dazzling light show which unfortunately for the moment, cannot be appreciated by anyone.
The year is 2588 by the Earth federation calendar, and this particular ship has been traveling for nearly a month in light warp, in an attempt to reach this lonely place, the mission of these ships is simple, the terra forming of a new planet found in what is now called the core federation systems, the planet Zaxs.
The android emotionlessly taps a few buttons on the console bringing the ships out of warp, after which, he walks over to a door methodically, which suddenly slides open before he reaches it anticipating his entrance into the hibernation room.
The room itself, (which is the size of a large town, is home to over two thousand hibernation tubes filled with terra formers waiting to be awakened). These are the people of the Tiff Company, this system wide company now has its hand in all things in the system, real estate, military operations, weapons development, government, everything and like any power hungry company it wants more and has a plan to achieve what its owner craves.
However, these people are simple terra-formers, pawns and cogs of the industrial machine, ordinary people that travel with their entire families to new planets with the goal of making the air breathable and the terrain fruitful, half of these simple people will stay once the project is completed, in an attempt to make a living in the universe anyway that they can, although, with the right incentive greed sometimes can corrupt even the best of men.
Walking over to a nearby computer and placing his hands on the console the android speaks the security code, delta, nine, four, eighty, alpha.
A shimmer suddenly passes over the tubes deactivating the protective shield on a near-by section of hibernation chambers, without glancing at the tubes the android begins punching in several codes, after-which, the same twenty tubes a little way off from the main group of hibernating colonists open slowly.
One by one, people begin to stir from the newly opened tubes, due to the long sleep many of the newly awaken colonists move groggily at first. The first man out of his pod is a heavy-set man with dirty blonde hair, named John Reed, he stands stretching for a moment (seemingly unaffected by the sleep) with his yellow-brown eyes scanning the others.
John is the head of this entire terra-forming operation, as soon as he’s done stretching he walks over to the android grabbing a microphone so he can organize his people through his orders, he like so many before him likes to (and truly does) believe that he has more power and sway then he actually does, as it truly stands, he is really a small puppet on an even shorter string.
Ok everyone, we've got a deadline to meet here and a progress report to send in two weeks back to the company, as well as the nosy federation so look alive! Flores, (turning to a young beautiful women near-by) I want a status report in five minutes. Make sure everyone is prepared to land and start the immediate off-load of all materials. Get with Talc and Devin (nodding in the direction of two men near the end of the pod line up); on setting up demolitions to make sure the target area is cleared, demolished and workable.
Yells John turning to walk away.
Where did we get those two? What happen to Hilmar and Zane?
Questions the young lady clearly upset walking towards John.
John scowls. Last minute change up before we left Mars. Hilmar and Zane were called to Earth to do a special assignment for the government. These two were the best-qualified demolishing guys we could get on short notice. Supposedly, they’re the second best in the federation systems, next to your beloved Hilmar and Zane of course. Now, Valerie if you don’t mind, I’d like you to stop questioning me, and get to work, now!
Fine, we'll find out just how good they really are, I'll put them through a test that’ll make most grown men cry, by the time I’m done with them they’ll wish they were never born!
Swiftly she turns toward the direction of Talc and Devin and begins to walk toward the two men, with her fists balled clearly ready to start a fight. But before she can get out of arms reach, John grabs her turning her back around, forcefully. He says nothing for a moment allowing his look to do the talking for him, then, still staring at her with a piercing look of anger on his face, he continues.
Hold on Val I’m not finished...
Really…?
She snaps interrupting him. I thought telling me to get to work now was pretty clear, you know, as a conversation ender.
Remember who you’re talking to smart-ass, and watch you’re tone.
Cautions John.
Forcing to compose herself once again she gives a fake smile. Sorry, sir.
Me too,
Replies John calming a little himself but still holding her arm. Listen, I know how close you were to Hilmar and Zane. Just remember we're going to be here for a few years at least, working side by side with everyone, including those two for all I know. I don’t know when Hilmar and Zane are coming back, if at all, for all I know the company may have another job for them when they finish the government work. So, while we’re here, I don't need or want any tension among my people, I have enough to deal with already without having to baby-sit pouting adults. I want to make sure that you don't cause any problems because your pissed off things didn't work out the way you wanted. It's not Talc and Devin’s fault the government called away our guys, if anything, it's Hilmar and Zane's fault for being the best at what they do. Just keep that in mind, all right?
I understand.
Says Val upset at being scolded. You’re right, and don't worry I won't cause any problems.
John releases her arm with a nod, turning around Valerie straightens herself heading toward Talc and Devin who try to look the other way in an attempt to act as if they didn’t see or hear the argument, upset that they did see and maybe even heard the discussion she quickens her pace toward the two men who are now discussing various demolition techniques. They stop talking and turn toward Valerie as she approaches smiling politely, both men are well built in their mid-twenties and very good looking distracting her a bit.
Talc, Devin! I need you to be suited up and ready to evaluate the terrain for demolishing in ten minutes. Understood?
Demands Valerie trying to sound superior.
The two men say nothing at first but instead look towards each other with a curious look on their faces.
Do you understand? Or do I need to draw it out for you?
Demands Valerie angry at being ignored.
The two men both have a clam even look on their faces seemingly unaffected by her tone, they glance at each other and smile with the look of enjoying an inside joke as they ignore her a moment longer.
Pyriel Talc finally steps toward her with a reassuring smile. He has jet black hair, is fair skinned and has lightning blue eyes, he carries about him an air of both mystery and confidence, and yet, both his eyes and face betray a look of experience of men twice his age. The man next to him has light black hair, light copper tone skin and emerald green eyes, like his partner he carries the same air of mystery and confidence, but also an inherent look of playfulness, betraying his age, his name is Dionysius Devin.
We understand perfectly miss…?
Replies Pyriel.
Flores. Valerie Flores, your supervisor, why don’t you do yourself a favor and make sure that you don’t forget it. And next time, so you know, when I ask a question I expect it to be answered immediately, not when you feel like it got it?
Yes ma’am. By the way, not that you care, miss supervisor, but I'm Dionysius, and this is Pyriel. We’re at your service, and don’t worry we'll be ready in two minutes.
Valerie stares for a moment then begins to walk away, but before she is a few feet Dionysius yells to her.
Oh, and just so you know, drawing on a chalk board would be better, you know, it makes more of an impression, after all, there’s the whole childhood association thing.
Smiles Dionysius.
He’s right teacher.
Chimes in Pyriel talking like a three year old.
Well, I keep that in mind for next time kids, thank you…Mr. Smart ass was it?
Answers Valerie clearly trying not to smile.
Have we met before? Because that’s very close.
Replies Dionysius with a wink.
Without another word Valerie turns and walks away, with the two men, admiring her beautiful looks and perfect body.
Damn she’s hot, and that attitude she’s throwing just makes it all the juicer!
Says Dionysius turning towards the hall.
No kidding, why couldn’t we actually have teachers like that?! I would have looked forward to my
discipline, but anyway, you better forget it playboy, she’s all mine."
Only, if I let you have her, fool.
Snaps Dionysius slapping Pyriel on the back of the neck.
It’s like that is it?
He questions balling his fist and waving it in the air. We shall see.
No, I’m just kidding. No need to get violent slugger.
That’s what I thought punk.
Says Pyriel turning back towards the hall in triumph.
As soon as he does, Dionysius slaps him again on the neck. Shut up fool. I own you.
You’re a dead man!
Yells Pyriel chasing Dionysius down the corridor like kids.
Chapter 2
Minutes later the large ships begin landing on a mountainous harsh planet, here and there exist only small signs of planet life or water, and, with the enormous ships equaling the size of a city combined. As they land the small door on the ship looks even smaller as it opens where Pyriel, Dionysius and Valerie are all suited up making ready to go out into the atmosphere of this untamed planet to begin surveying and demolishing the area. All three of them are carrying standard issue backpacks for demolition work but, Dionysius and Pyriel are also carrying black metal suitcases, that, Valerie is eyeing curiously.
After walking for a short time Valerie points to a large rock formation roughly the size of a large hill.
I’m going to set up to level this one, Dionysius (pointing at another formation far off, the size of a small mountain) you take that one. (Pyriel lets out a little laugh) As for you Pyriel, since you seem to have plenty of energy, you can take that one.
Says Valerie with sureness that she has punished Pyriel pointing to a good sized mountain.
Pyriel looks at the mountain then smiles at Valerie, winking his eye. Puzzled by his reaction to the assignment Valerie begins to look angry, without a word Pyriel kneels down and opens his black suitcase. Occasionally, he glances up at Valerie who is watching him intently; Dionysius is giggling and shaking his head at the situation. Valerie glances at Dionysius in question for a moment who offers her nothing in the way of help, getting only a giggle and shrug from him she returns to watching Pyriel intently, saying nothing. From her point of view she can tell that Pyriel is assembling some kind of gun unlike any she has ever seen, Pyriel thoroughly enjoying her curiosity begins humming while assembling the weapon, adding to the wonderment in Valerie’s mind.
Finally unable to stand the waiting Valerie blurts out questions. What’s that? What are you doing?
Says Valerie anxiously. I gave you an assignment and I expect you to start it now. Remember what I told you earlier?
Allowing a moment to pass before answering her, Pyriel says nothing while rising to his feet apparently finished putting the gun together.
Well? You’re pushing it Talc!
Questions Valerie again growing impatient.
Well, ma’am, this is a toy of my own design, for demolitions, I’m still trying to get the patent on it, but you know how it is with politics (smiling). As for what I am doing, I’m getting ready to fulfill the order you just gave me to demolish that mountain.
Replies Pyriel coolly.
"Is that right Mr. Talc? Well genius, don’t you mean start demolishing? A mountain that size, would usually take about thirty charges, ten if you’re really good. I should know I’ve worked with
