In addition, there is a section on the creation and evolution of UPWORDS® and the idiosyncrasies that surround this creative and challenging game.

LET’S PLAY
Do you enjoy playing UPWORDS® but wish you were better at it? Are you new to the game and find it challenging? Are you already an experienced player and want to hone your skills? Do you have an opponent who is better than you? Do you want to start playing online but are intimidated by the level of play you will encounter? If you answered YES to any of these questions, this book is for you.
UPWORDS® is Bill Clinton’s favorite board game. It certainly is the game of choice among many word game aficionados. Strangers who stumble upon a game being played in a coffeehouse often become fascinated and start kibbutzing. Addictive
is an adjective often used with the game.
Many SCRABBLE® players find the game of UPWORDS® to be equally or more fun and challenging. It is a word game often described as three dimensional Scrabble.
However, it is an entirely different game requiring different analytical skills and different techniques to win. But much like SCRABBLE® and its electronic counterpart, WORDS WITH FRIENDS®, UPWORDS® is a multi-faceted word game that can be played as a board game in one sitting, as an electronic game played locally with Pass and Play,
or played online over time and distance.
This book is targeted at players across the spectrum: those who may want to improve their skills at a fun family game or, more seriously, those who may want to compete online with friends or strangers, and even those who may want to join a league of expert players. Players can and do improve every day. With the helpful information in this book you can advance your game and be competitive with the best of players.
FOR BEGINNERS
It’s likely that you may start out playing with someone who has played before and will give you a quick explanation of the rules. Play some trial games so that you will learn by doing, often the easiest and most efficient way to learn. However, if you and all your opponents are brand new to the game, just read the instructions included with the game or go to a website such as the official Hasbro site: http://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/upwords.pdf. If you are using an electronic app, you can find instructions from the Help
tab under How to Play.
Help
also includes FAQs (frequently asked questions), email support, and development and publisher information. Even if you are an experienced SCRABBLE® player, you may need to play a few games of UPWORDS® in order to focus on its differences.
