About this ebook

Rosalie Galloway's murder investigation into who killed rock star Blake White continues. Now that Erotic Corpses has been cleared, the next suspects on her list are members of the heavy metal rock band: The Necromancers. Rosalie's top suspect is crack-head guitarist Damion Hellsing, who was once a member of Blake's high school band, The Playboys, before Blake kicked him out. Other members of the band include the bi-polar singer Sadie Skellington, who is currently in a relationship with Devon of Erotic Corpses, the masochistic bass guitarist Morg Di Morte, and the skull-mask wearing drummer Gol Gotha.

This time Rosalie has to go on dates with heavy metal rock stars and things get intense as the volume is turned up. The danger around Rosalie seems to be escalating as she gets closer to discovering the identity of the mysterious assassin with the demonic Baphomet tattoo who has been showing up and targeting members of the band: Erotic Corpses. To make matters even more complicated, Blake begins to hinder Rosalie's investigative dates because of his newfound jealousy. Is the arrogant Blake White who used to love only himself falling in love with the girl he's nicknamed 'beggar girl'? Can a ghost and a living girl date?

Revenge...has never looked so sexy!

    Chapter 1: Favorite Thing

On dreary days, Blake would go out alone onto the balcony to brood. He would look out at the view of the city with a dark, stormy expression on his face and float there for hours. If Ro or Carrie tried to join Blake on the balcony he would growl at them to leave him the hell alone, or cause the glass sliding doors that led to the balcony to vibrate for Carrie’s sake.

The girls couldn’t help but wonder what Blake was brooding about since he didn’t talk much about himself or his past. Carrie let out a frustrated huff during one such occasion when Blake had scared her off the balcony. What the hell is that jerk ghost’s problem anyways? She asked Ro as she made her way back into the living room.

Ro shrugged. I dunno…I guess he just needs some time to himself.

Yea, but why? What’s bothering him? He should just talk to you about it… Carrie let out a sigh.

Maybe he’s thinking about who murdered him. Ro suggested in a morose tone.

Carrie shook her head at the gloomy girl. I sense…that it is something else. She stroked her chin in thought. Ah! A sudden idea came to the witch as she remembered what she usually did when she had a mystery she needed to solve - she googled it. Why didn’t I think of this sooner? Carrie rushed over to her worktable a.k.a Blake’s dinning room table, and flipped open her laptop. Carrie turned on her computer and logged onto the Internet via the hotel’s WiFi. She went to www.google.com and typed in ‘Blake White’.

Ro stood behind Carrie and peered over her friend’s shoulder curiously. What are you doing?

A cat’s paw smile formed on Carrie’s lips. Oh, just googling Blake White… The first thing to appear was the image results, which showed several pictures of Blake White as well as band photos. After that was Blake White’s official site, Blake White on wikipedia.org, several fan pages, and video results.

Carrie was instantly intrigued by the video results and wondered what she might be able to discover about Blake’s singing career via YouTube. The first video link she clicked on took her to a YouTube video of Blake’s mother - the famous opera singer, Pearl White, singing Caro Nome from the opera Rigoletto by Guiseppe Verdi.

The new window popped up and Carrie clicked on the video to play it. Blake White’s mother looked just like an angel from heaven. Platinum blonde hair cascaded down Pearl’s back in waves all the way down to her knees. Pearl’s almond-shaped eyes were a gray-purple color and had long, thick lashes. She was tall, willowy, with pale skin, an oval-shaped face, and pouty lips. She was wearing a violet colored, designer dress and a pair of stilettos.

Ro’s eyes widened as she got to see Blake’s mother for the very first time and even got to hear her sing. Pearl’s voice was equally beautiful and angelic. She’s beautiful. Ro breathed. She felt a pang of sadness in her chest that Blake didn’t have any photos of Pearl White around the penthouse. It was such a shame.

Yea. Carrie agreed with a murmur.

The two young women were mesmerized by Pearl’s performance. After the video finished Carrie noticed a video in the list of suggested videos on the right side of the screen, titled: Pearl and Blake Duet. Carrie quickly clicked on that video next. The new video popped up and Carrie clicked on the video to play it.

The video was of Pearl and Blake at church singing for their congregation. According to the video’s info - Blake was eleven-years-old in the video. That meant that the video was taken sometime before Blake’s parents were murdered.

The video had 2,345,645 views. The two young women listened to the mother and son singing the opera song: The Prayer (Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s song). It was enchanting, and they were surprised Blake was singing in a falsetto!

Heh…Blake used to sing opera. Carrie said with a mischievous smile curling her lips. "No wonder Blake doesn’t like to tell us about his past. He’s got some juicy skeletons in his closet. Let’s look at the comments!" Carrie scrolled down and began to read the YouTube comments:

So adorable! I love u Blake!’

    What an amazing child’

    This makes me cry’

He did it. It’s done. There is no ‘follow your dream’ or ‘just work hard and your dreams can come true’. It happened. His dream is reality.’

    RIP Blake’

    He was sooo sweet’

    He’s like a little cherub’

I dunno if I want to date him or adopt him’

    flashback’

    Gay’

I’m so freakin proud of him’

    I LOVE YOU BLAKE!’

Ro rolled her eyes. She knew her friend was going to tease Blake about how he used to sing opera for days. Oh brother…I like opera. Ro read the YouTube comments curiously though. Her eye twitched when she read the ‘gay’ comment.

Carrie gave Ro an irritated look. I’m not saying I don’t like opera either, but obviously Blake is embarrassed about it if he’s never told you. Let’s find out what happened after this. She suggested as her fingers flew over the keyboard.

The next video Carrie found was of a twelve-year-old Blake singing an opera song on America’s Got Talent. He was singing the opera song Nessun Dorma using his falsetto. The video had 16,889,022 views.

Carrie checked the date of the video and confirmed that this was AFTER the death of his parents. The witch did some more research and discovered that Blake had won America’s Got Talent that year and soon after released his very own album of opera songs with Wraythe Records. Interesting. Carrie thought.

Ro and Carrie were unusually quiet as they watched the videos of Blake’s performances on America’s Got Talent. With each performance Blake seemed to improve. The singer looked at the audience and cameras unflinchingly, boldly, and almost angrily. He was challenging someone. Carrie realized.

Ro felt proud as she watched Blake’s performances and finally his winning performance. She also felt a sense of sadness that the life of this great musical talent had been cut short. It just seemed so unfair.

Funny. Carrie said as the video finished.

    What is? Ro asked.

Carrie was reading an article about Blake’s debut. Funny that Blake’s parents had been against Blake entering the music industry at such a young age but how as soon as they died Blake entered it anyways…

Ro shrugged. It was up to Blake though, right?

A tiny frown formed on Carrie’s black painted lips. I guess…but why did Blake make that decision? To what end? The witch wondered aloud.

After his appearance on America’s Got Talent Blake began to build up a name for himself in the music industry as an opera singer until high school when he formed the punk rock band The Playboys with Vincent, Damion and Joey.

Carrie clicked on a YouTube video from the high school band. All of a sudden Blake was belting out punk rock lyrics at the top of his lungs. Huh?! His voice was oddly still angelic, but now held a raspiness that wasn’t there before. Perhaps, Blake had gained the raspiness from smoking? Carrie mused. In the video Blake was singing, Damion was playing lead guitar, Joey was on bass guitar, and Vincent was attacking the drums.

Carrie looked at Damion Hellsing intently. He was your typical EMO Goth with dark hair, dark eyes, and a pale complexion. The teen had dark shadows beneath his eyes, and a morose expression on his face. All in all he had a ‘tortured youth’ look. Hmm Damion Hellsing…he’s still on the list.

Of course Carrie’s eyes went to Vincent Sangre next. The drummer didn’t look that different from how he looked today. His red hair had been shorter and only shoulder length. Vincent still wore the same round yellow sunglasses that he had in high school apparently.

As Ro watched the YouTube videos of The Nipples, she was surprised by how different Blake’s voice sounded when he wasn’t singing opera, but instead powerful punk rock lyrics. It was an amazing transformation…startling. It showed just how skilled Blake was with his voice. He had incredible range and control. He could sing such high notes and suddenly hit the lower ones as well. He could make his voice sound melodious, raspy, or husky. Ro knew Blake was amazing but she hadn’t known just how amazing Blake truly was.

The medium was also curious about Damion and his interaction with the band. The teen seemed troubled. The teens all played well together though. When Ro closed her eyes to listen to them she could tell that they had this ‘harmony’ together. They meshed. Even if Damion looked outwardly depressed, Ro sensed that he was inwardly happy. This was simply expressed in their music.

Later YouTube videos were of Erotic Corpses when Devon had joined the band. Carrie did some more research and discovered on wikipedia.org that Erotic Corpses released another album through Wraythe Records when Blake and the others had still been in high school. It had been a huge success.

After high school the band went to the University of Southern California - home to the Thornton School of Music. Succeeding college they immediately started to perform at concerts and produced several new albums.

Ro and Carrie were watching another YouTube video of Blake’s mother Pearl White singing another opera song when Blake floated back inside the penthouse. The ghost floated over to the two young women and curiously looked over their shoulders to see what had their rapt attention. Hey, what are you girls doing? Blake sucked in a breath and his eyes widened when he caught sight of his mother singing. He froze.

Blake? Ro asked while giving the ghost a concerned look.

Carrie gave Ro an expectant look as if to say: ‘Well? What’s his reaction? What’s he saying?’

Your mother was very talented. And beautiful. Ro offered softly, hesitantly.

Blake’s eyes flashed with anger as he unfroze. Who gave you permission to watch this, beggar girl?!

Ro visibly flinched at Blake’s raised voice.

Carrie noticed. "Oh ho, you just got scolded didn’t you, Ro? Well, I can understand why Blake didn’t want us to know that he used to sing opera. His voice was angelic and pretty - just like a girl!" The witch cackled in amusement.

Blake’s cheeks turned pink and Ro wondered how a ghost could blush…it was probably all mental.

You meddlesome witch… Blake growled at Carrie.

Carrie looked at Ro impatiently. Well? What’s he saying?

Ro looked nervous. I rather not say…

He’s insulting me, isn’t he? That idiot. In order for Ro and I to investigate your murder we need to know more about your past. The past is connected to the present. There could be a clue about who killed you and why. Carrie explained and put her hands on her hips in a sassy pose.

Blake snorted, crossed his arms over his broad chest and grit his teeth. What else do you need to know?

He says we can ask him questions. Ro said with a tinge of surprise to her voice.

Carrie tapped her chin. Good. I read about how your parents were against you entering the music industry at such a young age. So after your parents died…why did you?

Blake looked surprised by the question. "Why…I…I wanted to find my parents’ murderer and figured he’d come after me too. I wanted to expose myself to the public eye. Mr. Wraythe helped me. He entered me into America’s Got Talent…and I won. After that I was able to put out my very own album. But the murderer never showed himself. I began to take martial arts lessons with Yoshida-sensei, so that if my parents’ murderer went after me I would be able to defend myself…"

    Ro repeated Blake’s words.

"So you didn’t start your music career because you wanted to sing, but because you wanted to flush out your parents’ murderer?" Carrie asked in surprise.

Yea. Blake agreed as he ran a hand back through his platinum blonde hair.

    Ro repeated Blake’s answer.

Carrie frowned. That’s so…sad. You have so much talent…and you didn’t even enjoy what you were doing.

"I never said I didn’t enjoy it. I…singing became my life and also my escape. There were times when I forgot why I was singing and just sang my heart out. Singing became a part of me…of who I was." Blake quickly explained.

    Ro repeated Blake’s words.

Carrie smiled. I see. I’m glad to hear that. Your parents would be sad otherwise. I’m sure they are watching you from heaven and are very proud of you, Blake. I know if I had a son like you I would be proud.

Blake blushed. Keh…receiving compliments from you doesn’t make me happy, witch.

Why are you smiling then, Blake? Ro asked in a snarky manner.

Shut up, beggar girl. Blake groused.

Let’s read some more of the YouTube comments from the videos of Blake singing opera! Carrie suggested devilishly.

Oh hell no! Blake objected instantly.

Ro smiled as she watched Blake trying to knock Carrie’s laptop off the table to no avail.

    ***

During the course of the week, Ro kept an extremely close eye on Vincent Sangre since he was the next person on her list of murder suspects that she wanted to clear. Because of this she didn’t fail to notice his sudden behavioral changes. Vincent had suddenly begun to avoid his ‘brides’, and would sneak out of the studio when no one was looking.

On one such day, Ro followed the drummer and discovered that Vincent had been sneaking off to meet Carrie. Ro’s eyeballs had nearly rolled right out of her head at the sight. Ro reported her findings to Blake and after that the two of them followed Vincent and Carrie around until they discovered that the witch and drummer were actually dating in secret.

Predictably, Blake was extremely unhappy with this turn of events. What the hell does that Goth witch think she’s doing going out with Vincent Sangre? How impertinent. He’s still on the list of murder suspects. His innocence hasn’t been proven yet! She could be in danger…that idiot… Blake began hammering fierce punches and kicks down upon a nearby car.

Ro flinched and was glad for a moment that Blake was a ghost or they would have been arrested for damaging personal property. She looked at Blake closely though and even though he seemed angry Ro knew that Blake was also really worried about Carrie. Ro decided to call him out on it. You’re really worried about Carrie, aren’t you?

Blake crossed his arms over his muscular torso and turned his head away. Tch. Am not.

Ro continued to watch Vincent and Carrie through her binoculars with a small smile on her face. Forbidden love…I think it’s kind of romantic. Her voice had a wistful note to it.

BONK. Blake tried to hit Ro on the head but his fist passed right through her. You would…idiot.

Ro rubbed the top of her head worriedly and gave Blake a pout. That would have hurt if you were alive, you know.

Blake smirked in amusement. I know, it’s a real shame.

Ro and Blake continued to stalk Vincent and Carrie on all of their consequent dates until one day they witnessed the couple entering a fancy hotel! "Isn’t that the Mr. C Beverly Hills Hotel? Blake said to himself looking at the tall white building. That’s a five star hotel." Ro and Blake both shared a shocked look at this startling development.

Ro looked back at the hotel, blushing. Are they going there to…play ping pong? The gloomy girl suggested hopefully.

BONK. Blake tried to hit Ro but his fist passed through her head again. No! Idiot! They’re going in there to have sex! What did you think? The ghost let out a frustrated sigh.

Ro’s face turned beet red. Oh.

Blake glared at the hotel as if it were a new enemy. That’s it! We’re going in there and stopping them. I’m going to beat the crap out of Vincent! Ro lend me your body. He demanded and turned towards Ro, a feral glint in his eye.

Ro wrapped her arms around her body protectively. No, Blake…you can’t go beat up Vincent. He hasn’t done anything wrong.

Blake raised an eyebrow at Ro. So you’re okay with playboy Vincent Sangre screwing your friend? They’re not married you know. The ghost gave Ro an expectant look at that. He knew that Ro was saving herself for marriage.

Ro nodded and chewed on her lower lip nervously. "I know…and I plan to save myself for marriage, but…other people have their own sets of rules that they live by. I’m not going to force my beliefs upon my friends. I trust Carrie and believe in her, and trust that she’s making the right decision for her. As long as she’s happy - nothing else matters. And I don’t want to ruin my friend’s happiness." Ro finished firmly.

Blake still looked unconvinced. Maybe I should go in there and make sure everyone is happy - you know? He waved his hand vaguely through the air.

Ro gave the ghost an incredulous look. Blake! You can’t…besides, you’ve seen them together. I really think it will be okay.

Blake shook his head at Ro. You’re way too naïve and trusting, beggar girl. I’m going up there. Don’t worry I won’t peep at them, but if I hear Carrie call out for help I’m coming down here to get you, got it? He growled before he flew off towards the hotel.

Ah! Blake! Wait! Ro called after him but he didn’t stop. Ro pouted as she watched the ghost float off. All she could do was wait patiently for Blake to return.

One hour later, Blake exited the hotel with a stunned look on his flushed face. Ro ran up to him, looking concerned. Blake! Is Carrie okay?

Blake sat down on the edge of the curb in front of the hotel and put his face in his hands. Your friend Carrie…is definitely the vocal type, you know that? I think the entire hotel heard Carrie and Vincent having sex.

Ro frowned, feeling confused. But…she sounded okay, right?

Blake nodded, before looking up and noticing Ro’s confused expression. It brought an amused smirk to his lips. I think if a girl yells out: ‘Oh Vincent! Yes! Harder! Faster! Oh…yes…like that!’ She’s having a pretty good time… Blake ran a hand back through his platinum blonde hair in an awkward gesture.

Ro’s eyes widened. Oh. She said softly.

And I learned something rather interesting, Blake began as he shifted uneasily on the curb.

Ro looked up at the ghost curiously with a tilt of her head. Oh? What?

A ghost can aroused… Blake stared down at his lap.

Ro followed his gaze and noticed the bulge in Blake’s leather pants. But…but…how is that possible?

Blake let out a frustrated sigh. But there’s no way to satisfy this desire. The ghost gave Ro a pensive look. Ro…let me possess you so that I can masturbate.

What?! No way! Ro wrapped her arms around her body and took a step back. Are you crazy?! I can’t…I don’t…

Blake stood up. Girls masturbate too, you know. Come on, Ro…I’ll make your body feel good. Blake winked at her roguishly.

Ro shook her head from side-to-side. No way! No way! No way! Perverted ghost!

Blake scratched his head with a confused look on his face. Girls make no sense. He let out a frustrated little sigh as he ran a hand back through his hair. Oh well, your loss, beggar girl.

Blake and Ro waited until Vincent and Carrie left the hotel. As soon as they spotted the couple they dove behind a gigantic potted tropical plant to hide them from view. After the lovey-dovey couple passed them by, Ro and Blake followed and watched as Vincent stopped on the sidewalk to cup Carrie’s face with one of his hands before kissing her goodbye. It was a sweet, gentle kiss. A peck on the lips really that was meant to be just a kiss and nothing more. Vincent began to walk away from Carrie before he turned around, grinned broadly, and waved at Carrie.

Carrie laughed as she waved goodbye to Vincent, a fond look on her face.

Vincent continued his way down the sidewalk with a skip in his step. Lucky bastard. Blake thought to himself. At least someone is getting laid around here. That’s yet another thing that sucks about being dead…I can’t have sex.

Carrie watched the drummer walk away for a few minutes before she finally turned around and made her way down the sidewalk. She stopped at a crosswalk and waited for the walk signal to change.

That’s when Ro caught sight of movement behind Carrie. She looked behind her friend and noticed that two of Vincent’s brides: Scarlett and Candra were standing behind Carrie but she hadn’t noticed them yet. Ro frowned wondering what the fan girls could be up to when Scarlett smiled and approached Carrie from behind. The bride raised her hands, placed them on Carrie’s back, and shoved the witch into the street.

Carrie stumbled forward and fell to her knees. She looked up to her left as she heard the honking of an approaching car. Carrie froze.

Carrie! Ro shouted as she ran into the street and turned to face the approaching car and flung her arms out wide at her sides. STOP! Ro said in her loudest possible voice and shut her eyes.

The driver of the car hit his breaks but it was already too late for him to stop properly.

    ROSALIE!

Ro remembered Blake screaming out her name before everything went black.

    ***

When Ro next awoke she found herself to be in a hospital bed. Her right arm was in a cast and a sling was around her body. But other than that she seemed okay. Ro let out a relieved sigh.

You are such an idiot. Blake groused from his seat on a chair that was directly next to Ro’s bed. He had a haggard expression on his handsome face as if he hadn’t slept for days. Ro frowned. But ghosts didn’t even need to sleep, right?

H-H-How’s Carrie? Ro immediately tried to ask. She barely managed to choke out the words. Her throat felt very dry.

Blake let out a sigh and shook his head. Of course she’s alright, stupid. You saved her…in an incredibly reckless move. You could have died, Ro. What then?! The ghost gave the medium a tortured look.

Ro frowned thoughtfully. Then…I’d be like you. And that’s not so bad… The medium gave Blake a hopeful look. We’d be together.

Blake looked at her incomprehensibly. "Idiot…this isn’t a life. This is torture…this is hell. How do you think it feels to be surrounded by your friends who can no longer see or hear you? To be unable to explain your feelings to your ex-girlfriend? To be unable to apologize to your best friend for suspecting him of killing you? To be unable to sing in my true voice? I wish I was dead…but I already am. All I have left is revenge. I have nothing else, Ro. I’m empty. All I am now is an avenger - not a rockstar.

I would not wish this cruel fate upon you. Death is not a good thing. Death is not a happy thing. Living…that’s special. And I will continue to protect you from your reckless self, Ro. Whatever happens, I won’t let you die. You need to live, Ro. Promise me that. Blake gave Ro a fierce look.

Ro chewed on her lower lip. Blake had never given her such an intense look before. It took her breath away having those gorgeous lavender colored eyes solely focused upon her. I promise.

Blake gave her a searching look before he nodded, apparently pleased with what he saw in Ro’s expression. Alright, what we need to do is tell Vincent about his fan girls or ‘brides’ or whatever the hell they are…those ugly wenches almost killed Carrie! He growled in outrage. Ro hid a smile behind her left hand. And ended up almost killing you. Blake said with equal fury in his voice. But we also need to make sure that Vincent isn’t in league with them. What if Vincent told his brides to get rid of Carrie because he was tired of her already? That’s also a possibility that we cannot ignore. The ghost finished grimly.

Ro looked stricken by that horrible thought. Vincent wouldn’t do that…

Blake narrowed his eyes at Ro dangerously. How the hell do you know that, idiot?

    Ro looked away. I don’t…

Ro! Joey exclaimed as he burst through the door of the hospital room with a cheery bouquet of white and yellow daisies in his hands. You’re up! Sweet! Are you in any pain?

Ro smiled as soon as she caught sight of the outgoing bass guitarist. She shook her head. No, I’m fine.

Joey bounded over to her like an excited puppy. You look better. He leaned over Ro’s bed and peered at her face closely. Their noses were almost touching. Joey reached out and touched Ro’s forehead with his right hand before putting his left hand on his own forehead. It doesn’t look like you have a fever. That’s good. The bass guitarist nodded to himself.

Ro’s forehead felt hot from where Joey had unexpectedly touched her.

I brought you some flowers! Joey held up the bouquet. I hope you like daisies…I don’t know what your favorite flower is. He scratched the side of his cheek in embarrassment. But I hope they’ll cheer you up! Joey gave her a hopeful look.

Blake rolled his eyes at Joey. Smooth, Joey, real smooth.

I love them. Ro said sincerely as she accepted the bouquet from Joey.

Ah! Joey slapped a hand to his forehead. We should probably put them in water! I’ll get a vase. Hang on a second. He ran off, filled a vase with water and returned to Ro’s bedside. Ro handed him the bouquet and Joey put the bouquet along with the transparent paper the flowers had been wrapped in right inside the vase. There! Beautiful, don’t you think?

Ro laughed softly. Joey, I think you’re supposed to take the cellophane off the flowers first before putting them in the vase.

Oh man! Joey animatedly slapped a hand to his forehead and groaned. "I totally forgot! I so screwed up…hang on a sec. He took off the cellophane and set the vase of daisies next to Ro’s bed on the nightstand. There!"

How is everyone? Ro asked curiously.

Joey took a seat on the chair next to Ro’s bed and Blake was forced to vacate the chair - unless he wanted Joey to essentially be sitting on his lap. The band’s been really busy. We’re getting ready to record our new album, you know - the one that will feature your voice singing all of our old songs. We’ve been practicing non-stop. You’ll have to learn all of our songs and get to practice them before we record the album so its release is probably going to be delayed. Manager Brody wasn’t happy about that at all.

"Tell Joey you already know all of Erotic Corpses’ songs by heart and don’t need to practice them." Blake instructed.

Um, er, Joey, I don’t need to learn the songs. I already know them all by heart. I was a huge fan of you guys, remember? And I don’t think I need to practice either. Sorry if that sounds stuck up… Ro gave Joey a bashful look.

Joey gave the medium an impressed look, however, his blue eyes sparkling. "You’re so amazing, Ro! I would expect nothing less from you. I’ll go ahead and tell the others that. Everyone wanted to come and visit you, but Manager Brody has been a real slave driver lately! I was the only one who managed to get permission to come and see you." He puffed up his chest with pride.

Wait, how long have I been asleep? Ro asked suddenly.

Three days. Joey informed her. You had a slight concussion. We were actually pretty worried you might slip into a coma.

Ro felt the blood draining from her face. Her injury had been that bad?

Everyone signed your cast while you were asleep though. Didn’t you notice? Joey prompted.

Ro looked down at her cast and her eyes widened as she saw that Joey was right - several people had written on her cast, left her messages, and signed their names.

Thank you for saving the woman I love.

You’re lucky I’m even signing this crap.

You can sell the cast on Ebay.

Ro gave Blake a questioning look. Blake hadn’t even mentioned that The Necromancers had visited her too. "The Necromancers were here?"

Joey nodded. Yea, Sadie brought her band mates with her. But don’t worry, I made sure they didn’t do anything weird to you while you were asleep!

I tried to beat the crap out of those punks, but... Blake shrugged.

It’s the thought that counts. Ro said softly to Blake.

What was that Ro? Joey asked, curiously.

N-Nothing… Ro stammered, giving Joey an innocent look.

Joey gave Ro a pensive look before shrugging. Well, I gotta get back to the studio and keep practicing. I talked to the nurse and she said it’s possible for you to be released tomorrow, so I’ll come pick you up then! Carrie says she wishes she could come, but she’s been working on our new costumes. We’ll be wearing them for this photo shoot we have scheduled. The photos will be used to create our new album cover. You know how much she wishes she were here though, right? Joey assured her with a big grin on his face.

Ro nodded and smiled. I know.

Great! You’re a genius, Ro! I’ll see you tomorrow morning, babe. Joey leaned forward over Ro’s bed and placed a kiss right on the stunned girl’s forehead.

Ro blushed as Joey patted her head before hopping out of the chair and heading for the door. C-ya babe! Joey opened and closed the door behind him.

Ro was smiling to herself when she caught Blake glaring at her and flinched, suddenly feeling guilty for some inexplicable reason. The grumpy ghost crossed his arms over his chest and huffed. Joey likes you.

I’m sorry…? Ro responded, not really knowing what to say.

Blake let out a sigh. No, it’s a good thing…you should probably go on a date with him and see if you can’t find anything out. Joey is an open book though so I don’t think you’ll learn much.

Ro blinked. You mean you want me to investigate Joey too?

Blake raised an eyebrow at the medium. No duh.

Ro furrowed her brow at the vengeful ghost. But Joey is…Joey. Do you really think he’d be capable of murder? Her voice held a skeptical note to it.

Blake looked about as unhappy as Ro was feeling. I…just don’t know, Ro. I just don’t know.

The following morning, Joey arrived at the hospital to pick Ro up as promised. As he entered her hospital room she saw that he had a few shopping bags in his hands. Ro gave the bags a quizzical look. Ah, I brought you a change of clothes. Joey explained as he raised the bags in his hands. I figured it would be easy to get into a spaghetti strapped dress but since it’s still cold out I bought you a shawl to wear with it. If you need any help changing though I’d be happy to help you. Joey winked at Ro impishly.

A pink tinge dusted across Ro’s pale cheeks and the bridge of her nose. I’m pretty sure I can manage on my own… Ro said in a dull voice as she got out of the bed, and Joey handed her the shopping bags. She made her way to the bathroom to change.

    Perv… Blake snarled at Joey.

Joey rubbed at his arms. Was it just him or was it freakin cold in there?!

Ro changed into the black, spaghetti-strapped dress that Joey had brought her. It was a Prada dress and the shawl was also Prada. The price tags were still on the clothes and Ro nearly had a heart attack when she saw the prices: $1,725 for the dress and $762 for the shawl!

    Joey! Ro shouted.

Joey and Blake both rushed to the bathroom, both young men thinking that Ro needed help.

Joey flung the door open. Ro? What’s wrong?

These clothes… Ro spun to face Joey. Are way too expensive!

    Joey face-faulted. Uh…

Idiot! Blake shouted at her. "You’re rich remember?"

Ro flinched at Blake’s harsh tone of voice. Oops. Ah, what I mean is…how can I accept such an expensive gift. I feel bad. She quickly explained.

Joey let out a breath of relief that Ro wasn’t in any kind of danger. The girl seemed to have the worst luck. Don’t even worry about it. I used Devon’s credit card! The bass guitarist winked before he burst out laughing.

Ro and Blake blinked and sweatdrops formed on the sides of their heads.

Joey reached in the bag and began to put the shawl around Ro’s shoulders while standing in front of her. He rubbed her arms with his hands to warm her and looked deeply into Ro’s ice-blue eyes. It’s a bit chilly in this hospital room isn’t it?

Ro gave Joey a confused look. Is it?

Joey frowned at that. Seriously girl, you must be immune to the cold! He grabbed Ro’s hand and began to tug her along. Come on, let’s get out of here! This place gives me the creeps for some reason.

Blake grew uneasy at Joey’s comment. Ro couldn’t seem to feel the cold atmosphere Blake’s presence created. Or had Ro gotten used to the cold he created? That can’t be good…

O-Okay. Ro let Joey drag her along. She was going to go to Wraythe Records and there she’d get to see Vincent Sangre. She still needed to confront Vincent about those fan girls or ‘zombie brides’. Carrie’s life could still be in danger.

Ro curled her fingers around Joey’s hand. She felt warm and safe with her hand in his grasp. Joey was a really good friend and he was always looking out for her. She cherished his friendship. And that’s why she had to prove his innocence to Blake no matter what.

Ro and Joey rode the elevator down to the first floor of the hospital in a pleasant silence. Joey signed Ro’s release papers, and they exited the hospital. Joey’s flashy yellow and black Lamborghini was sitting out front. Joey quickly ran over to open the passenger side door for Ro. After you, my lady. The guitarist said in a joking manner. Did I sound like Vincent just then?

Ro giggled and got into the car. A little bit.

Yes! Joey punched the air in front of him enthusiastically before running over to the driver’s side door. He opened it and hopped in behind the wheel. Joey always seemed to have a lot of energy and enthusiasm with whatever he was doing. He started the engine and swiftly pulled into traffic. Vincent’s so lucky he’s so popular with the ladies. He even has those fan girls…the zombie brides, I mean… Joey explained.

Yea, but those ‘zombie brides’…are they just fans? They’re not Vincent’s girlfriends are they? Ro asked while fishing for information.

Joey laughed. Vincent’s not a Mormon! He’s going out with Carrie right now, isn’t he? I saw what he wrote on your cast. Although it’s like this big secret that everyone knows. Joey grinned at the thought. It was hard to keep secrets at Wraythe Records since there were cameras everywhere.

If everyone knows about it that means the brides know too. Ro’s expression fell and she began to chew on her lower lip. I see…Joey do you think Vincent is a good person?

Joey’s grip tightened on the steering wheel. Yea…I went to middle school, high school and college with the dude. If you’re wondering if he’ll break your friend’s heart…I don’t think he will. I’ve never seen him so serious about a girl before. He treats her…differently. He’s not keeping her at a distance like all the others. I think Carrie could be the one. He turned to give Ro a reassuring look.

I see. Ro frowned thoughtfully, wondering if that was a good thing or a bad thing. She just didn’t know yet.

Joey noticed Ro’s tumultuous expression and frowned too. Was Ro interested in Vincent? She sure talked about him a lot and she barely talked to begin with! Joey drove Ro to Wraythe Records and parked the car in the underground parking garage when they arrived. The rockstars made their way to the practice studio after that. As they passed through the first floor of Wraythe Records the security guards were being extra friendly to Ro.

Welcome back, Miss Ripper. Good to see you back, Miss Ripper.

Uh…um…thanks. Ro managed to get out shyly.

Joey and Ro rode the elevator up to the 10th floor. The elevator door opened and they made their way down the hall to studio, room number 1001. Joey knocked on the door and Manager Brody immediately opened the door.

Manager Brody’s expression brightened considerably when he caught sight of the duo. Joey! Ro! He greeted them enthusiastically; a lit cigar perched between his lips. Brody turned his attention to Ro fully and his expression softened. Ro, it’s good to see you back. How are you feeling, hun?

Ro offered her manager a smile. I’m doing a lot better, thank you.

Manager Brody nodded, looking pleased. "That’s good to hear. Joey tells me that you already have all of Erotic Corpses’ songs memorized and don’t need to practice? Is that correct?" He raised an eyebrow at the surprising female rockstar.

Ro met Manager Brody’s questioning look and nodded firmly. I’m confident I’ll be able to sing the songs properly, Manager Brody.

Manager Brody reached out and patted Ro’s head before a wide grin spread across his rugged face. You’re a real trooper - you know that? But I don’t want you to push yourself. Do you think you can sing in your current condition?

Ro nodded. Yes sir. Her right arm was still in a cast that was in a sling, but wasn’t really bothering her. She was sure Blake could hold the mic with her left hand.

Manager Brody gave Ro a proud look. What a trooper! Well, I’m sure you’re dying to greet everyone so I won’t hold you back any longer. He stepped aside and Ro stepped further into the practice studio.

Ro immediately caught sight of Erotic Corpses at practice: Vincent sat behind his drum set attacking the drums, Devon was playing his electric guitar with a serious look on his face, Sadie was watching Devon from her usual seat on the leopard print couch with lust shinning in her eyes, and Carrie was seated next to Sadie with a sketchbook in hand that she was using to do sketches of Vincent and Devon (for ‘research purposes’ of course).

When Carrie spotted Ro she immediately stood up. Ro! Tears began to fill the witch’s chocolate-brown eyes as she rushed towards her best friend and flung her arms around her. Ro! Thank you so much…you saved my life!

Ro was a little bit stiff and awkward in Carrie’s unexpected hug. But she soon hugged Carrie back with her left arm. I’m just glad you’re okay.

Did you see who pushed me? Carrie whispered in Ro’s ear.

Ro nodded. It was Vincent’s brides - Scarlett and Candra.

Carrie’s expression fell. You don’t think…Vincent…? You see, Ro, I’ve…Vincent and I… She began to try and explain how she was currently in a relationship with the drummer.

But Ro reached out and put a finger to Carrie’s lips. I already know you and Vincent are going out. Don’t worry Carrie, we’ll find out the truth. Together.

Carrie’s expression turned relieved. Thank you. And I’m sorry. Blake must be pretty angry with me, huh?

Ro shook her head. You have no idea. But don’t be sorry. You can’t help who you fall in love with, right?

    Carrie blushed. Yea…

And Blake was more worried than angry, I think. Ro explained with an amused look on her face.

Hey! Don’t tell the witch that, meddlesome girl. Blake growled at the medium.

Ro just continued to smile innocently.

Vincent stopped attacking the drums and Devon stopped playing his guitar when both young men caught sight of Ro, and wanted to greet her. They left their instruments and approached her.

Devon reached Ro first with a serious expression on his face. Ro, it’s good to have you back. You’re looking well. Still as beautiful as always - our fans will be happy to see that. The guitarist said in a matter-of-fact voice.

Ro blushed at the unexpected compliment. Thanks Devon.

Sadie stood up abruptly, and stomped over to Devon. She immediately latched herself onto the guitarist’s arm in a possessive manner. "Hey, Ro, welcome back. I was beginning to wonder if I should take your place as Erotic Corpses’ singer!" Sadie let out a cackle. The female rockstar took out a cigarette, lit it and took a long drag from it. She sighed happily as nicotine smoke filled her lungs.

Er…thanks Sadie…I think. Ro managed to get out.

Devon put a cigarette in his mouth, Hey Sadie, give me a light.

Sadie’s eyes sparkled with mischief. Of course, darling. She purred as she leaned forward with her lit cigarette poised between her lips.

Devon leaned forward with his cigarette still in his mouth and used Sadie’s lit cigarette to light his own, their faces only a few inches apart.

Ro frowned at the two smokers. Sadie Skellington was a bad influence on Devon. She chewed on her lower lip nervously. What if Devon got back into drugs because of her?

Vincent approached Ro next and she noticed that he had an oddly sober expression on his face. The drummer took his sunglasses off and looked into Ro’s eyes. Ro…I really want to thank you for what you did. You saved my heart. The last sentence was said in a low voice that only Ro could hear.

Ro looked back at Vincent with her expression equally serious. Ro leaned forward to whisper in Vincent’s ear. I really hope that what you just told me, is the truth.

Vincent gave Ro a surprised and hurt look. Ro…why-?

However, before Vincent could finish what he was trying to say Manager Brody clapped his hands together to get everyone’s attention. "Now that we’ve all finished welcoming Ro back - let’s all head over to the recording studio to begin recording our new album. It will be titled: Erotic Corpses: Resurrection! Manager Brody struck a surfer pose. Cowabunga baby! We’ll ride the wave of success!"

YEAA! Hell yea! We rock! Devon, Vincent, Ro, and Joey all cheered with enthusiasm. The band made the maloik symbol with their hands by extending their index and little fingers and holding their middle and ring fingers down with their thumbs, and raised their arms into the air.

Everyone began to follow Manager Brody out of the studio, but Brody turned to Carrie and Sadie. And where do you girls think you’re going?

To the recording studio, duh. Sadie drawled with a flip of her hair.

Manager Brody wagged his finger back and forth at Carrie and Sadie. "You girls aren’t actually a part of the band…and recording a new album is pretty serious stuff. Devon’s girlfriend and our stylist don’t need to come. You’ll both stay here. Sorry girls - it’s the rules." He smirked and put his hands out before him in a helpless gesture.

Carrie nodded, I understand, Sir. She sounded disappointed. The witch loved watching Vincent play the drums. He was so alive when he played, so passionate and so very sexy.

Sadie Skellington took things a little less gracefully. She pouted and stomped her foot. I’m not just Devon’s girlfriend. She removed the cigarette in her mouth and pointed it at Manager Brody. "I’m the lead singer of The Necromancers dammit! I should get to go!"

Manager Brody frowned at the feisty female rockstar. "That’s exactly why you’re not going. The Necromancers are our rival band! You could be spying on us to find out more about the new album so you could release that info on the net!" He crossed his arms over his broad chest as he gave Sadie a stern look.

Sadie’s mouth opened and closed like a fish. Uh! Uh! Uh! Jerk! She angrily crushed her cigarette against her tongue in order to put it out with a sizzling hiss.

Ro flinched. She’d never get used to Sadie doing that!

"My job as the manager of Erotic Corpses is to protect them." Manager Brody declared firmly with a fierce look in his blue eyes.

    Chapter 2: New Rose

Manager Brody led Ro, Devon, Joey, Vincent and Blake to the recording studio. Ro had never been to a recording studio before. The recording studio was split into two rooms. The first room Manager Brody took the band to was the ‘recording room’. The recording room
