    Chapter 1: Silent Night

Chocolatier Tristan Savant stood behind the sparkling, white marble kitchen island making holiday-themed chocolate bonbons by pouring melted milk chocolate into plastic molds that were shaped like: Christmas trees, bells, snowmen, snowflakes, and reindeer.

He was humming a popular love song as he worked. It was a song he just couldn’t seem to get out of his head. The artist’s name was Lorelei. Lorelei was an up and coming singer, who had a huge fan base in New York City where she’d started her career performing in restaurants and small nightclubs.

Tristan was incredibly excited by the news that Lorelei was going to have a concert at the Radio City Music Hall on Christmas Day where she’d be singing a bunch of new songs.

Tristan was dying to go, but the tickets were expensive. He needed to take care of this month’s rent, the electricity bill, the cost of the Christmas decorations he’d used to doll up his shop, and the cost of the ingredients for making chocolates, before he could buy one.

The mysterious ‘Lorelei’ had no last name. Lorelei was obviously her stage name. Tristan thought it was quite fitting since according to the German legend ‘Lorelei’ was a feminine water spirit similar to a siren or mermaid, which was rumored to send sailors to their death by luring them near cliffs with her beautiful singing voice.

As for the New York singer Lorelei, her songs had the ability to soothe the aching loneliness Tristan felt in his heart.

As a half-incubus demon Tristan needed sex in order to survive. This made things tricky when it came to having a relationship with a complicated human female. He’d already learned the hard way that his best bet for both parties involved was just to have one-night stands. The sexual energy he received during one romp in the hay would last Tristan for up to a week.

Don’t get Tristan wrong - he loved being a playboy and loved women. It’s just…why was it that the holiday season always seemed to make Tristan feel more lonely than usual?

Maybe it was the couples he could see outside that were walking hand-in-hand past his shop window while looking all lovey-dovey. The couples were laughing and smiling at each other, obviously totally in love. It made Tristan gag.

Tristan frowned at the couples that seemed to be rubbing their love right in his face. Whatever. He didn’t care. He had no interest in love. Just lust and sex.

Although… Tristan looked up adoringly at the poster of Lorelei that he had taped to his kitchen wall. The chocolatier sauntered over to the poster and caressed Lorelei’s image with his hands lasciviously. If I met my muse - my beloved Lorelei - in person I may just have to reconsider falling in love. At this point, he was practically rubbing his body against the poster in a rather obscene manner. Well, at least no one was watching.

The poster had captured a dramatic on-stage moment for Lorelei singing at one of her concerts. Multicolored spotlights illuminated her body with a halo of light in an angelic manner. Lorelei was a sexy Latina with golden-brown skin, long brown hair, and honey-colored eyes. She was wearing a black tube dress that showed off her perfect hourglass figure.

At that moment, the sound of a woman’s sultry singing reached Tristan’s ears. Ah, it’s like I can really hear Lorelei singing to me. Oh amor! Tristan crowed happily as he hugged himself, imagining Lorelei embracing him in a passionate manner.

    The singing continued…

Tristan blinked, and his brow furrowed. He was no longer convinced that his vivid imagination was providing Lorelei’s singing inside of his head. Did I leave the radio on? Tristan walked over to the radio that was sitting on the counter and checked it. It was turned off.

He realized that the singing was coming from the main shop area. Wait a minute, that means…could it be? Has Lorelei come to grace my humble chocolate shop with her divine presence? Tristan swiftly left the kitchen, entered the main shop area, and stood behind one of the long glass display cases that was filled with artfully decorated chocolate bonbons of every flavor imaginable.

Because it was pretty late at night he only had one customer inside the shop - a young woman that was completely bundled up against the cold in a puffy, purple winter coat, along with a matching hat, scarf and gloves.

Could she be his muse? His goddess? His Lorelei? Tristan wondered excitedly.

The woman was browsing around the shop and singing softly while she selected a few different boxes of chocolate.

Tristan caught a glimpse of her profile as she turned slightly sideways, and was hit by a wave of disappointment. She definitely wasn’t his Lorelei.

The young woman had a round, pudgy face. Her thick black hair was pulled back into a messy bun, and she had very pale skin. There were a couple of zits on her face, and she had the beginnings of a unibrow. But Tristan noted that her eyes were a startling, emerald green color, and she had extremely long lashes.

Tristan put his chin in his hand as he observed her. She was still rather cute, even with these few flaws that some superficial human men would consider irreparable. Her eyes were gorgeous, sparkling and full of life. Her lips were kissably plump.

It was a shame she’d ‘let herself go’ or else she’d be a total babe on the same level as Lorelei even. But Tristan could see her inner beauty. He
