    Tamed and Mated #3

I kept looking back up at the sky as we went. Castor was still circling overhead, never too far away from us. We couldn't go fast, or we would draw attention to ourselves. Jace kept to the shadows of the trees. He was clever, as I'd known he was. I didn't know why he kept to his human form, but he did, clutching the small bundle in his hand all the time. I was itching to ask about it, but I didn't want to piss him off with me any further.

You've done enough. Jace resumed walking.

You know I didn't think this would happen. I didn't plan for this. I never wanted this.

What, Jace turned around to me. You didn't think your psychopathic mate would want to kill me for helping you?

The words took the wind out of me. I thought I could hide you.

    Well, you didn't.

I swallowed. He was right. I'm sorry, I said. I should have let him take them. I should have manned up. But I wasn't that strong. This was why I was a servant. They had seen it even when I was just a hatchling. I wasn't suited to be a warrior.

I wasn't even strong enough to be a servant.

    Take what? Jace asked.

    My wings, I said.

Jace stared at me. What do you mean your wings? His eyes darted to
