About this ebook

Saba’s passion kept her allies alive. Now it may destroy them all in the gut-wrenching third book in the highly praised Dust Lands trilogy, which MTV’s Hollywood Crush blog called “better than The Hunger Games.”

Saba is ready to seize her destiny and defeat DeMalo...until she meets him and he confounds all her expectations with his seductive vision of a healed earth, a New Eden. DeMalo wants Saba to join him, in life and work, to create and build a healthy, stable, sustainable world…for the chosen few. The young and healthy. Under his control.

Jack’s choice is clear: to fight DeMalo and try to stop New Eden. Presumed dead, he’s gone undercover, feeding Saba crucial information in secret meetings. Saba commits herself to the fight—and hides her connection with DeMalo. Joined by her brother, Lugh, and her sister, Emmi, Saba leads a small guerilla band against the settlers and the Tonton militia. But the odds are overwhelming. Saba knows how to fight—she’s not called the Angel of Death for nothing. But what if the fight cannot be won? Then DeMalo offers her a seductive chance she may not be able to refuse. How much will she sacrifice to save the people she loves?

Betrayal lurks in unexpected places in the breathtaking conclusion to the Dust Lands Trilogy.

The Angel of Death... I'm going to have a huge book hangover from this one. I miss the Dust Lands and the characters-Saba, Emmi, Auriel, Mercy, Slim, Jack, DeMalo- all of them, already.

In Raging Star, Saba has to the blood moon, 7 days, to bring DeMalo down and although they call Saba the Angel of Death because she's won so many fights and has so many deaths on her head, she believes this is one battle that has to be won without weapons. That's not what her crew, the Free Hawks are use too though so they aren't too convinced of her plan. Anger, grief, fear, lies, resentment and betrayal boil beneath the surface not only in her crew but within the people of New Eden who have been wronged by DeMalo. Can she use that to her advantage and bring DeMalo down before the blood moon?

I love everything about this series! Young literally transports you to another place with her writing. The language, the setting, the characters all just mesh together into this amazing, atmospheric story that will leave you speechless. I would love to see this turned into a movie. If you haven't read it yet, don't wait any longer. You're missing out!

In book three of this trilogy, Saba is part of a band of guerrillas which includes her brother Lugh and her boyfriend Jack, trying to fight DeMalo, the man who has reorganized the dead king’s army - the "Tonton” - and is “cleansing” the country for a New Eden led by him, “The Pathfinder.” Saba has a problem, however, in that she is inexorably drawn to DeMalo, and isn’t able to kill him even when she has the chance. She has no idea why her “heartstone” - which grows hot when she is near her heart’s desire - gets hot both when she is near Jack and when she is with DeMalo. Jack is working in a separate group - he and Saba meet secretly at night, because most of Saba’s group hate Jack and want him dead. But Jack is actually the most true of all the fighters, and the most focused on the ultimate goal and on the good of the people.Saba is betrayed by one of her own (we know who it is right away, but Saba doesn’t know until the end of the book), and the future of civilization is in true jeopardy. It doesn’t end entirely neatly, but it does end mostly how it should.Evaluation: The second and third books weren’t as good as the first, but this is nevertheless an entertaining trilogy.

I was really disappointed by this novel. Blood Red Road remains one of my favourite dystopian novels and Rebel Star, while weaker, was still an enjoyable read. Raging Star is just...lacking. It's very slow burning. While the opening and closing chapters are exciting, the 300 pages in between are really drawn out and padded. The entire series was wrapped up in the last twenty pages of this story in a really rushed epilogue and a couple of major characters are hastily killed off, their deaths serving no purpose and offering no catharsis for Saba. The focus this time is largely on character relationships, building a mystery regarding which of them Saba can ultimately trust. Unfortunately, the traitor in the team is obvious (and has really been obvious since Rebel Star) and so these chapters are mainly characterised with Saba making silly mistakes and completely overlooking the obvious mole in her team. The romance in the series is really disappointing. This novel widens the (sigh) love triangle between Saba, Jack and DeMalo. I've never really bought into any of these relationships as writing romance isn't one of Young's strongest suits. I'm baffled as to what attracts Saba to DeMalo - the dictator of New Eden who sanctions the murder of sickly babies. Jack also irritating, constantly brushing Saba aside and never giving the impression that he truly cares about her. I really wanted Saba just to walk away from both of them but, unfortunately, her development has turned her from the Angel of Death to someone who will endanger many just because she doesn't want either of the men she likes to get hurt.

Raging Star by Moira Young was a satisfactory conclusion to her Dustlands trilogy. This post-apocalyptic story plays on the themes of betrayal and loyalty while the main character, Saba, who at times expresses doubt in her abilities, leads a small group of inexperienced guerilla fighters to try to overthrow an oppressive society and bring peace and freedom to the Dustlands. The main character, Saba, is a very damaged and conflicted heroine, and at times I struggled with actually caring much about her, she was brave, resourceful and caring but had absolute no people smarts and so was deceived time and again.I was totally drawn into this series by the first book, Blood Red Road. The second book, Rebel Heart suffered a little in comparison but I had high hopes for the final volume and, for the most part, I thought this volume hit the mark. It seemed at times that the romance angle was the most important part of the story, but as I kept reminding myself, this is a YA story so the romance is an important element. The action picked up during the last third of the book and I felt the author did a good job at tying up the ends and giving her main characters a good resolution.

I loved the first two books in the series, but this final book was disappointing.

The Good Stuff Excellent character development for Saba My favorite part I cannot go into because, as River Song would say, Spoilers. But lets just say I always disliked Lugh Plenty of twists and turns & some big surprises I know a lot of readers couldn't deal with the language in which it is written, but I truly feel it adds to the story and makes it more believeable Fabulous world building Saba is a flawed, yet interesting character (well without that weird relationship with her brother - dislike him) You can see how DeMalo has captured everyone's interest, and you kinda understand his way of thinking. It's not right, but you can see why people follow him. Would be interested in a book about him Look forward to see what Moira Young comes up with nextThe Not So Good Stuff The ending felt a little rushed and the pacing was off Honestly I think this series would have been positively brilliant if it was only two books. I feel this about many trilogies, but lets face it, this is what sells. A lot of cliches Many of the secondary characters had potential, but they were kinda left hanging in this conclusionFavorite Quotes/Passages "The first cut was made. An before we knew it, before either of us could stop it, he got cut from me and me from him. By fate an chance and destiny. By death and betrayal. By wounnds to the soul too big to be spke of. By secrets and half-truths and lies.'"He's got a lifetime of scoundrel knowhow.""That gift from the past to the future, which is now. I'm hopeful fer new Eden. Fer the earth and the sky. The wanter an te trees. The beasts and the people. If I'm hopeful fer myself, I hope fer no more than this. That beyond the horizon, somewhere, someday, I can live with myself and what I've done."“You have a rare fire within you. The power to change things. The courage to act in the service of something greater than yourself.”3.5 Dewey'sI received this from Random House in exchange for an honest review
