About this ebook

It starts quietly, with an incredible murder committed in broad daylight, but without a single witness. Soon the unseen killer progresses to a macabre mass killing, but why does the sole survivor blame the victims for their own deaths?

Unpredictable and unstoppable, the killer strikes across the city, acting with impunity, always one step ahead of the pursuing GOON SQUAD. But even when they do find their quarry at the site of a new and awful massacre, what chance do they have against the terrible power of the "Exterminating Angel"?

GOON SQUAD is a "prose comic," an ongoing episodic story that unfolds in handy monthly issues. The story of the EXTERMINATING ANGEL begins in #3.

    Exterminating Angel

    Puppet Girl, said Nadiya Kysla.

Identity confirmed, said the lift's pleasantly modulated female voice. You may pass.

It was probably Nadiya's imagination, but the lift seemed to be generally friendlier with her these days. She doubted it would ever say it was glad to see her or offer her a impromptu greeting, but it was part of her general mood that she had finally found somewhere where she fitted in.

She'd thought she'd fitted in with The Mischief, too, but there had always been rivalries there, an unspoken hierarchy in which they had been engaged in climbing over one another through acts of eccentric felony and the sort of civil disobedience that involves explosives.

She wheeled her suitcase into the lift behind her and pressed the ascend button.

She wasn't expecting hugs and party poppers on her return, and thus was not disappointed to find Ian by the window reading an ancient thriller bought from some market stall, and Gilbert on the sofa browsing through police alerts. He smiled and greeted her with evident pleasure when she emerged. Ian only nodded, but Nadiya knew that was a brass band and cheerleaders by his standards, so she was still satisfied by the reception.

Ian dropped his book on the windowsill and came over. Tea? he asked.

Yes, please, said Nadiya and was slightly nonplussed when, without asking, he picked up her bag and took it away with him, presumably to drop it off in her room en route to the kitchen.

Wow, said Gilbert once Ian was
