God is Easy to Find - Dr. Wesley Carter

    INTRODUCTION

Attention ALL men and women--young and old, those from every nation and background: All Who have experienced hurt, been traumatized, abused, confused, on drugs, alcohol, gang members, denominational and non-denominational believers, atheists, Christians, non-Christians and those in diverse religions and all sinners. Did I leave anyone out? This book is a welcome piece for all.

If you ever had doubts concerning the existence of God or experienced complications following Him, stay tuned! On the contrary, if you ever experienced or questioned the pain you’ve felt, the heartache, trouble, misery or struggled with feelings from what you’ve heard about God, there are solutions in this book to comfort you.

We experience times daily where we hear all kinds of advice, doctrines, biblical and non-biblical information, only to find that it only confuses us even more! At this point we start questioning: The beginning of time. We become curious regarding the creation. What are we going do with life? Where will we end up? Where did we come from? What is our purpose on this earth? Why was I created? Where will we spend eternity?

Why should I believe in God? What’s wrong with being gay? Why do people turn to drugs and alcohol? Why denominations; why not denominations? Why must we go to church? Is it okay to have an abortion? Why do bad things happen to good people? Is there a heaven? Is there a hell?

These are some questions that we as individuals may all ponder and it seems as though most of the time these questions don’t truly get answered. How does the lack of knowledge affect us in the world in which we live?

That is why the Holy Spirit compelled me to write this book. There are so many people who have no motivation to go on! They have given up on themselves, family, church, and mostly have given up on God! God is Easy to find!

I grew up in the inner city in the early 60’s. Many families migrated from the south to the north because there were better jobs and education; people wanted to do better for their families. I can remember the social and economic times filled with people hustling, saving, budgeting simply trying to provide for their families. There seemed to be enough provision to meet every situation at that time, to the point that people seemed to be more jovial. However, that jovial attitude made us blind to what was really happening. As II Corinthians 2:4 states, the god is this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers. Who is the god of this age? The sections of this book will tell you that and more, and will hopefully answer many of your questions.

It is my prayer that your eyes, heart, and mind will be opened and that you will begin to grasp the importance of the information provided. Will this book answer all of your questions? No, and it is not intended to. Rather, the purpose of this book is to start you on a journey of discovery. I want to give you a glimpse of what you could know, and of where you can get more of your questions answered.

    God is Easy to find!

    Why is this book important?

We look around and see so many confused people in the world; some believe, some don’t believe, and some don’t even care. My prayer is that this book will bless you with a strong sense that God is Easy to find, and is loving and caring. All God wants is the best for us, and for us to be with Him in the End!

    Why this book?

I believe that this book along with other great books was written by the guidance of the Holy Spirit in order to break the chains of depression, fear, ignorance, and to show us a better way! I believe the topics in each section will answer most of today’s questions.

What will I accomplish by reading it?

Those who read this book with an open mind will discover their destiny and realize that God is Easy to find, and He’s just what we need to make it!

    Who will this book impact?

This book can impact anyone who reads it, but particularly will be helpful for those who don’t believe or those who have been afraid to ask the questions it contains.

This book is a must read for everyone!

    When should I read it?

Read this book early in the morning or late at night!

Read this book when you feel there is a need for your spirit to be lifted!

Every time you read this book, you will be motivated to go further and trust the power of God!

    CHAPTER 1

    GOD

So many times in life the question of whether there is a God--not just any deity but One True God--shows up. At some point in our lives, we all have probably stopped in the midst of a tough situation and asked, If there is a God, how can this happen?

A search of the internet will reveal many differing thoughts on the topic of whether God actually exists. However, despite all of the negative suggestions that life is random, that no one cares if we sin or not, there is no heaven or hell, and so on, there are a many important points that we must consider as we answer this question truthfully.

Later on you will find a chapter about church which also has a section on the Bible, but for now, let us consider it briefly as we work on our answer to the question of whether God is real:

You might have heard it said that the Bible is just a collection of stories written a long time ago by a bunch of different people. You might have even heard that the Bible is nothing more than an elaborate fairy tale. Some people will admit that Jesus was probably a real person and based on what they have heard, He was a great teacher, historian, and scholar. However, the Bible and Jesus are both much more than that!

Although the book we know today as the English-language Bible first appeared in written form around 1380, those first manuscripts were hand-written. It was not until around the year 1456 when the Guttenberg press was developed and the book could be reproduced on a machine. Because it was hand-written for so long, many people believe it to be just a story and not the authoritative Word of God.

Prior to the development of paper, the Bible was handed down, from person to person; it was this verbal method of sharing that led to it being described as a fairy tale.

Jesus was born of a woman, but unlike any other person he was born to a young virgin woman. People struggle to understand how a girl who had never been sexually active could get pregnant and have a baby, which is why there are so many who disbelieve that Jesus’ birth was a miracle.

You too may have a hard time with just these three facts, and probably have many more questions about whether God is real. Here is some additional information to help:

Every piece of written material has been the work of more than one person; that does not make it any less true! Just because it took more than one person to actually write the Bible does not make it a false document. More importantly, the truth of the Bible comes in the confirmation of its contents. Historical documents of the time in which Bible stories take place confirm what the Bible tells us. False documents cannot be proven true, but the Bible can!

Oral communication, or verbal sharing of a common story, is also a cultural way that important information is passed down from generation to generation. If the telling of Biblical history is made untrue because it was first told from person to person, many of our own family stories would be even more untrue for the same reason!

God is Easy to find, but His ways are not ours--God does not do things the way people do, so there will be things we cannot understand. The birth of Jesus is one of those things, but that does not mean that what we know of His birth is a fairy tale. What other person in the history of the world has been the cause of the calendar as we know it? Before Christ’s birth, time was counted down and is recorded as B.C. which is an abbreviation for Before Christ. After the birth of Jesus, time began to count up and is recorded as A.D. which is an abbreviation for Anno Domini, which is in Medieval Latin and is translated as In the Year of Our Lord. Because the world struggles with this designation, some historians and scholars outside of faith communities use the terms B.C.E and C.E (Before Common Era and Common Era) instead. However, do you know of any other person who has, for more than 2000 years, been the focus of all of time? Think about it.

No science has been able to provide us with a complete story of how the world began. In school we hear about the Big Bang Theory, or that the world and the universe developed from a burst of energy that jump started everything; we continue to learn that humans and animals developed as a result of genetic changes called evolution. However, the first two chapters of the book of Genesis in the Bible tells us that God created everything.

Genesis 1:1. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3. And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. 4. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5. God called the light day, and the darkness he called night. And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day."

As you continue in the chapter, you will find out about how God made plants, animals, and early in chapter 2, there is the story of the creation of people.

The thing that we must understand is that religion does not directly contradict science!

    Here is why:

    God created everything.

Romans 8:28 says - And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them…which lets us know that not only did God create everything, but He causes everything!

Not only does God create and cause (or give purpose) to everything, He makes it work together. Everything God made has a purpose; things that have purpose also have a use. Science, understanding, and thought have a purpose for God’s kingdom.

Deuteronomy 32:3. "I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! 4. He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he."

You may wonder how God’s works can be perfect when the world is constantly bombarded by storms, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, and so forth; how can such a faithful God, who does no wrong, allow people to be hurt or killed and property to be damaged in such a way? God allows Satan to do these things for His purposes, and for our good (please consider Job chapter one).

While what seems like natural destruction such as the storms that have ravaged China, Myanmar, India, Haiti, Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico, the eastern seaboard of the United States, and most recently Oklahoma are a sign of God’s cruelty, we must realize that is not the case and remember some important details:

When man sinned, the entire world was thrown into turmoil. It is true that nature was labeled as good by the Lord at creation. However, man’s sin caused everything to change, including the weather! What we see as dangerous weather conditions and other phenomena are signs of how imperfect our world has become since that original sin.

There are situations where severe weather was a blessing! Consider the snowstorm that happened as George Washington and his troops were crossing the Delaware River: that storm was a covering for their approach, which allowed them to surprise their enemy!

For more specific information on weather, read Dr. Donald DeYoung’s book Weather and the Bible.

    Reflection

There was a time I really needed help and there was no one I could call on. I remember saying, Lord I need your help! I was sitting in my car at the mall on a warm humid day and there was no wind blowing anywhere. There was a can about 500 feet from me and I said, God if you’re listening to me blow that can my way!

I waited and waited and a heard a voice in my ear saying, Do you really believe that will happen?

When I got ready to start my car, all of a sudden the can came toward me real fast; when it got to my car it immediately turned and went toward the left. I started crying and praising God! I shouted, Lord God I know you’re listening and you answer prayer!

I grew up in a religious home. My parents strongly believed in God. We went to church, Sunday school, and Bible class. I always had questions when we left church, like Where was God? I remember looking on a map and seeing all those various countries; I asked How could God answer all those prayers and still hear mine? I read that God is a Spirit! He’s omnipresent! He’s everywhere at all times!

My mom told me when I was a born the doctors couldn’t keep any food in me. She said that the doctors told my mom and grandmother, If he doesn’t hold food by tomorrow we may lose him. It was my sixth day of life and my mom and grandma prayed and asked God to let me live! Praise God, I’m here today to tell you that God is real and God is Easy to find!

I believe God created us and had a plan for every person in mind.

He knows our thoughts. He doesn’t look at our outside. He looks at our Heart!

He speaks to me by way of the Holy Spirit! Whenever I seek the Lord I call on Jesus and He then in return releases the Holy Spirit to cultivate me.

The Trinity is deep! Let me tell you: Until you’ve had an encounter with the Lord, you haven’t experienced anything. There’s nobody like the Lord!

Don’t be angry with God! If God took a loved one, remember that God only lends us people for a season! You will see them again! If you lost a job, ask God to give you another one! If He gave you one car He can give you another! If God did it before He can do it again! All you have to do is have faith!

R.A. Torrey’s The Bible Answer Book says,

First, God is Spirit and numbers belong primarily to the physical world. Difficulty inevitably arises when we attempt to describe facts of spiritual being in the forms of physical expression.

Second, God is infinite, and we are finite. Our attempts at a philosophical explanation of the Trinity of God are an attempt to put the facts of infinite being into the forms of finite thought. Such an attempt, at the very best, can only be partially successful. This much we know, that God is essentially one. We also know that there are three persons who possess the attributes of deity - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit - Who are called God, and Who are to be worshipped as God. There is only one God, but this one God makes Himself known to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Yet the Son and the Spirit are both in agreement to the Father. God the Father is God in the absolute and final sense - God is the source. Only in His fleshly days on earth was the Son subordinate to the Father.

Otherwise, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (God’s own Spirit) think as ONE PERSON. The Father does not GIVE ORDERS…ideas and thoughts arrive to each of the persons of THE TRINITY at the same time…the fallacy of this example is that I must present it on human terms concerning thought processes. Since the TRINITY knows all things at all times, there is not a processing of thoughts as in the finite mind. They perform different duties in relation to us, but are one in structure and thought.

    CHAPTER 2

    FEELINGS

One of the hardest things for people to do is not be self-centered.

    Think about it:

When you look at another vehicle on the highway, do you compare it to the one you are driving?

If you see a story on the news about a lottery winner, do you say what you would do if you won that sum of money?

Does the crying child in line at the market make you happy that your child is not crying today?

We are all guilty in one way or another because most people by nature are self-centered. It starts when we are little children--as infants we consider the world in relation to ourselves: all toys are ours, anything we can put in our mouths is ours, playtime should happen when we want it, and so on.

At some point, we all find ourselves asking, Well, what about me? What about what I think?

It would be harsh to respond by saying, God doesn’t care about what you think because that would be false. God loves us and cares about every aspect of our lives, including how we think and feel! However, in order to be in the best mental, spiritual, and emotional shape, we must attend more to what God wants for us than to what we want for ourselves.

Proverbs 19:20. "Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. 21. There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand."

    The Counsel of the Lord

The Book of Proverbs was written by King Solomon and other writers also. The general theme of the book is on wisdom and it is a centerpiece of what is called the Wisdom Literature of the Old Testament. Contained in the book are short, brief sayings of common sense and sound advice that relate to all ways of life; in short, a practical, everyday philosophy of living. In this life, as we live on a daily basis--day by day, we seek to find our purpose and fulfill it! In order to find out who we are, we must understand God’s principles and purpose for our life.

Proverbs 16:25. "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.’

We have to learn how to live from the Word of God otherwise we’ll fall into confusion, and believe we are living out of our full potential! We can make all the plans we want to in life, but if our plans are not based on or according to the purposes for which God created us, then our plans are in vain.

Isaiah 55:6. "Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD."

It is important to seek the counsel of the Lord!

    Why?

Jeremiah 1:5. Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet (Seer) unto the nations.

This passage tells us that Jeremiah was ordained by God to be a prophet; to be called out in this way is not something that happens to everyone, but read the first part of the passage again: the point is that everyone that was conceived, before they were conceived, God knew them! Before they came out of their mother’s belly, God sanctified them! God sanctified you!

What does sanctified mean? It means that God consecrated or blessed. God did this so that man could be made in His likeness.
