About the Author
Welcome to Budapest.
Hot springs breaking through limestone mountains supplying water of 35-76 degrees centigrade gave rise to a flourishing culture of spas in the Roman Age and made Budapest one of the most popular spa cities of Europe. . . Ahem. Sorry, confused ourselves with Lonely Planet there for a moment.
Budapest, a city split between the fourth and fifth letters by the Danube, is in the post-dogshit-everywhere, pre-starbucks-everywhere age. If you walk uphill on a street flanked by harsh green trees and you haven’t encountered any means of public transport in the last 20 minutes, you are on the Buda side. If you walk the same distance at sea level for a while in a street filled with cars, buses, trolleybuses and trams and haven’t encountered any kind of vegetation in the last 20 minutes, you are on the Pest side.

This is not a guide book. This is a cheat sheet for those who don't like guide books but could still use some handy info for those moments when the cultural logic might not be so easily guessed, practical tips without the hassle of google, some clues of which direction in this sprawling metropolis to head, or for those simply want to see something uniquely Hungarian they might not be likely to wander into by accident.
