After the Rain...A Poetry Collective - Tumika Patrice Cain
A Love Like Ours
A Love Like Ours
I have longed for you
Since before I knew
How to voice my desires
A love like what I see in your eyes
When you think I’m not looking
You have this special way to greet me
That causes my heart to soar
In that moment
You and I are the
Only ones that are...
The universe is ours alone
Enfolded in the warmth
Of your embrace
I have never known
Home until you hold me
Pulling me closer into your heart
There is no me
There is no you
Only us...
Two hearts beating as one
Easing all of the tensions
Out of my person
Pouring in all the love in your soul
The sound of your voice
Is the most delicate of arias -
Our own private mating call
I ceased to exist before you
Looking at me with loving eyes -
Eyes only for me
I love you, too
You absorb all that is me
Into all that is you
The feeling is so intense
Yet so soft -
The gentlest of ocean breezes
Felt in my soul
Fluttering like butterflies
Complete Me
You bared your soul to me
Gave me painful pieces of your past
Putting on a brave face
But I know you
And I felt your pain
Saw the tears that failed to slip
From proud eyes
Extended pieces of your heart to me
Seen by no one
Wondering if I could handle
All the emotions kept locked deep inside
Behind cobwebs and rusty chains
When you don’t even want to revisit them
Hoping beyond hope that I could
Praying I wouldn’t be another coming in
With the purpose only to deceive and outwit
The gentle kind spirit that is you
Fearfully naming me judge and jury
Holding your breath
Waiting to see if I was up to the challenge
Of loving you
I heard your sigh of relief escape from your soul
Unbeknownst to you
When I not only accepted you
But embraced every part of you
Telling you in our private language to bring it to me
Let me know you
Crooning silent words of love in your inner ear
Baby it’s okay
Lay your head upon my chest
Let me feed you the essence of love from my breast
Let my sweet caress reach the farthest parts of your soul
So that you know you have been tenderly touched by love
Deny you I cannot
I’ve been waiting on you
Breathing only half a breath until I found you
You are the other half of myself
Come and let us be one
You complete me
Ebony Abyss
I am plummeting head first
Into the abyss called you
Suspended only by your essence
Afraid to look beyond today
When another before you
Promised me that it was okay
To let loose and jump in
Saying he’d be there to catch me
But he lied
And left me to pick up the pieces
Of my broken existence
Though I know that
You
