My husband looks at the body floating in the water. He barely knows the guy, Benji Taylor, one of Unger's. He wonders what the guy did to end up in the Sound, face down, floating with arms out. Matthew almost expects the guy to turn and laugh and wave.

I see my killer's face every day. She wanted to be my killer, anyway, but even at that she failed. I see her teeth chin-raw and ugly, skin the color of a tomato as she swings the crowbar as I am turning around. I get my arm up and the blow snaps my wrist.
