Special thanks to my loving husband, Deacon. Thank you for giving me the courage to put my dreams into words.

    Prologue

Immortality. Some would love to live forever. Others would do everything they could to end their endless life. It has its pros and cons. If you could live forever would you? Once your life is over that’s it. No do over’s. No resets. No extra chances. There are many myths on how one could live forever. Some say its magic or a curse. Some may think you would have to sell your soul to live forever. A lot of people, however, would rather be bit than to die. Get bitten by a vampire that is…..

I don’t care about what people think, but I am not a monster. Many people would call me such, but I promise you I never killed a human who didn’t deserve it. Come to think of it, I do believe the last one I killed had the intent to rape and kill a 14 year old girl. See? I’m not that bad, now am I? In 1991, I was born Jacob Ray Brown to Crystal Renee Brown and Jonathan James Brown. I just turned twenty-one years old when I was attacked and left in the street to die. It all started at my college graduation….

    Chapter 1:

The ceremony just ended. I can hear my mother and father screaming over everyone else in the crowd. I am the first one of my brother and sister to graduate. That is saying a lot since my older brother has been in prison since he was my age, and my little sister ran off as soon as she turned eighteen. It’s been two years since we heard from either of them.

My best friend Kyle Dunne was in my class too. We’ve been friends since the fifth grade. He’s helped me out of some tight spots in the past. If it wasn’t for us having the same classes together I doubt he would have graduated himself.

I’m so proud of you, honey! said mom.

Me too, son. My son the forensic scientist. Too bad Rodney and Jennifer weren’t here to cheer for you too.

Mom, it’s ok. Don’t cry. I’m too smart to do what they did. I put my arm around my mother as she breaks down into tears.

I know! It’s just where did we go wrong?! We put you all through the best schools this town has to offer and they still ended up the way they did!

Mom, you and dad are the best parents anyone could ask for. It’s not your fault or dads on how they ended up where they are now. I love you and thank you so much for being here. Thank you for everything you have done. I’ll be by tomorrow. I’ll even call you when Kyle’s graduation party is over if that will help.

Jake, go have fun. We love you and want the best for you. Now go on. Get out of here.

    Ok bye. Love you guys!

I smiled and gave my mom a hug goodbye. Boy does it feel great to be the favorite in the family. It feels great to take this graduation gown off too.

So where are we going, Kyle? The Saddle Barn or Club Glow? You already know my preference.

    "Well I
