I would like to thank, first and foremost, my family for all the support. It amazes me how easily a three year old can make me feel like superwoman.

Next, I’d like to thank, as always, Christine Harris and Mary Smyly for reading and editing and giving me the feedback I needed to complete this series. If not for you, I would still be talking about writing a book instead of actually have written them.

And, again, I’d like to thank those awesome indie writers out there who inspired me in every way. Thanks for entertaining my brain.

    Prologue

    Raynon Dubhshaine

Ah will have the head of every single Elve on this planet and ye will allow it or ye will find another tae rule the Fey.

Sire, please be reasonable. You cannot punish everyone for the actions of a single person, Ramenyus said in a placating voice.

Ah doona see why yer problem is with the Elves. ‘Tis not their fault yer woman left ye, Gage said.

Serval sent him images of Gage’s head being ripped off and engulfed in Dragon flames. Raynon took a moment to calm himself before he did just that.

She did not leave. She was taken, Raynon replied to the arsehole.

So ye keep saying. The only problem is ye have no proof she was taken. Hell, she had left only days before this time. Perhaps she just came back tae get something before leaving for good. Ah could not imagine what it was she wanted tae get.

Gage was smirking. Raynon knew he was referring to the night he and Genivieve had spent together a couple of days before her disappearance.

She has been gone for two months. Even her sister has not seen her. There is no way she would have left her pregnant sister without a midwife. Ah tell ye, she was taken and the only one who would have taken her is Leland an Dorn. He had sent one of his own tae his death in an attempt tae kill me. Doona ye think that is enough of a reason tae go tae war?

Again, we cannot prove that he had sent that Elve. The assassin could have been acting on his own, Ramenyus replied.

Gods damn it. Ye all are tae busy with yer heads stuck up yer asses tae stand up for yer own people. Ah will be damned if Ah am just going tae sit here and wait for the next attack. Raynon slammed his fist on his desk. Now is the time tae prepare. We are Fey for the Gods’ sakes. We destroy our enemies. Dae ye think ma father would have just sat around waiting for the enemies tae breach the door? Nae? What aboot his father?

The difference is, Sire, that we are not just outnumbered by the Elves. If it was just the Elves we would be fighting, I would seriously consider your request. But our sources say that Ireland has joined forces with Africa. If we went to war with the Elves, we would be going to war with the Demon too. With their numbers we would be decimated, Alton said.

So what dae ye suggest we dae Alton? Sit here and wait for them tae cross the channel?

We have no word of the Elves planning any attacks. Leland an Dorn has even offered another peace treaty and I believe your response was to send his messenger back in multiple packages with a note that said Fuck you. I really wish you would have consulted us before resorting to such vulgar behavior, Alton replied.

Ah am sorry if ma actions seemed harsh. But that bastard tried tae kill me and caused me tae lose ma mate.

When are ye going tae stop blaming him for yer woman leaving ye? Ah refuse tae believe that she was yer mate. No mate would have left their man like that, Gage said.

Yer right. No mate would have left their man. Ma mate did not leave me either. She was taken and Leland an Dorn is the reason why.

So help him Gods if that bastard said one more thing about his Petal he really was going to rip his head off.

I think it is safe to say we are at a stalemate. Wouldn’t you agree Alton? Ramenyus said.

Yes, as leader of the Fey council I prohibit you from acting against the Elves at this time. If there are any more attacks on the Fey or you yourself, Sire, we will have no choice but to act. As long as the Elves are keeping on their side of the channel we will not start war against them, Alton said.

Raynon wanted to strangle them all.

    Fine. Get out.

He didn’t feel like being civil to this bunch of arseholes. They think his mate ran from him. She wouldn’t have run. Not like this. She had asked for time to come to terms with everything and he had agreed to give her the time she needed. She had no reason to run. But even if she did want to take a break from him, she would not have left Isabella. Of this he was certain. She had also given her word to the pregnant Fey women. She wouldn’t have gone back on her word.

Once they had left, he pulled the dagger from his desk. He had removed this dagger from her thigh months ago. Ever since her disappearance he had tried to scry for her using it and every time it would start to move like it had found her then it would just stop. He didn’t understand unless there was a spell in place that was preventing him from finding her. He knew the glamour she had previously worn had stopped him before but unless she had found someone strong enough to reinstate it she didn’t have a glamour any more. She herself would not have been able to place a glamour on herself that was strong enough to block him. He had always been stronger than her magically except when she had bonded with Chresnia.

That bond too had been blocked in some way to the point that they fear they will lose Chresnia if it isn’t replaced soon. She had not been able to eat or sleep for any length of time since the bond had been severed. Serval had notified him a month ago that she was with child. Once he and Genivieve had completed the mating bond, Serval and Chresnia were able to have children and hadn’t waisted any time in producing an heir.

All he had to do now was find his mate so that they could have the time to work on creating an heir of their own. He knew Leland an Dorn had something to do with her disappearance. He just had to prove it and find a way to get her back. He refused to believe that she was dead. He would know if his mate was gone from this plane. If she had, he would join her.

    One

He wanted to be my everything. My savior, lover, husband, abuser, punisher, doctor, only confidant...when would it end? I spent the first month of L.A. (that’s life after my accident, the only time I remember) in the hospital ward of his mansion. He started by being the most loving, attentive husband any woman could want. Then one day when he came to visit I could tell he was mad and before I had a chance to say or do anything, he struck me across the face, once, then again. I couldn’t defend myself as one of my hands was strapped to the bed with an IV in it. I tried to push him back with my other hand as he reached forward and proceeded to strangle me. I thought my life was over and couldn’t help thinking it wasn’t fair. I couldn’t even remember who I was or anything about my life prior to waking up in this hospital room and I never would know because the man who claimed to love me was choking the life out of me.

A doctor rushed into the room, pulled him off of me and they left together. When he had returned he apologized and told me that before my accident I had left him for another man. He said I had returned to him and we were trying to work things out when the accident happened. I couldn’t imagine why I would leave him. The word psycho comes to mind. I forgave him for strangling me. What else could I do? I’m pretty sure if I told him to shove his apology up his ass, I wouldn’t have finished the day out. I couldn’t die until I knew who I was or at least became someone I wanted to be. I didn’t want it to end in some hospital with no memory of me or any idea of what kind of person I really was. So every time he hurt me and then used some excuse for doing it, I would forgive him. I couldn’t help wonder what kind of man I had left him for. He had to have been pretty horrible if I returned to my husband. One day I would be free of this place and then I would find a man of worth. My very own Prince Charming. Until then, I just had to stay alive. Which was easier said than done.

After I was finally released from the infirmary, with more than a dozen different medications to take every day, I was told I would be staying in my own rooms but that I would spend most nights with my husband. The room I was placed in looked vaguely familiar. I’m sure I had been there before but it sparked no memory. All I could think was how I wanted to leave this place.

I now sat in front of the vanity as a servant girl brushed my hair and applied makeup to my face. It was part of the morning routine. I had yet to spend a night in my husband’s bed but he always made sure to see me first thing in the morning and I knew it was just a matter of time before he forced the issue. After I was ready, the servant left and soon after Leland entered my room.

Good morning, my beautiful Treasure. How did you sleep last night?

Well thank you, husband. My lines were practically written for me. It had taken me a couple of weeks to figure out what would set him off and what wouldn’t. Still, he would surprise me with an outburst at least once a day. But I wasn’t being beaten very often any more.

And what do you have planned for the day? he asked.

I bit my lip then decided it was worth a try.

Husband, would you accompany me for a walk through the grounds today?

I didn’t really want him to go with me but I knew if I asked to walk by myself he would automatically think I was up to something. He seldom had time to spend with me during the day as he was busy with his men planning something. What, I don’t know.

I knew the moment he snapped. He narrowed his eyes.

You’re thinking of him. Are you? Did he take walks with you? Is that it? You want me to accompany you so you can pretend it is him.

What? No. I think of no one but y...

Before I could finish, he struck me. I closed my eyes and thought of somewhere else. Anywhere. It did no good to fight back. I didn’t know how to fight and he was so much stronger than me.

The beating lasted several minutes before he finally stopped. He walked to the vanity and wiped my blood off his hand with a kerchief then turned back to me.

Why? Why do you make me do these things? he asked.

I-I only wished to go for a walk. I was thinking of no one else, I whispered.

He walked toward me and I couldn’t help but to cower. He knelt before me.

I did not mean to lose my control, Treasure. Of course you may go for a walk. Not today. You have a doctor’s appointment this morning and you know you are always unwell after your visits with the doctor. Tomorrow, you may go. I will send my guards with you.

With that he got up and left the room. Never has he ever apologized for mistreating me. He instead places the blame on me.

Now, I just have to figure out how I can evade his guards and escape this place. Thoughts of escape are what took up most of my days anymore.

An hour later I was sitting in the doctor’s office in the mansion infirmary. He didn’t mention my new bruises as he knew how I had gotten them. After all, he had been the one to pull Leland off me the first time. He shined his light in my eyes then attached several electrodes around the perimeter of my head and the back of my neck.

Have your tests shown any progress on getting my memories back, Dr. Santilon? I asked.

Not yet. We will just have to keep trying. Let me know when it hurts, Mrs. an Dorn, he said with a smile.

I didn’t see why it should hurt every time. Couldn’t he check to see if my memories were returning without hurting me in the process? I felt the tingle as he turned on the machine. Slowly the electrical current became stronger and stronger and I could hear him in the distance talking under his breath. It almost sounded like he was praying or chanting. After a few minutes, the current became too strong for me stand.

Please stop. It hurts, I said.

He ignored my request. I grabbed the arms of the chair as hard as I could while my jaw clenched from the pain. Finally, he decided he had hurt me for long enough and he shut the machine down. I couldn’t even think straight the pain was so bad. My vision was blurry as well. I could just make out the doctor as he walked toward me with the syringe. Whatever he gives me knocks me out every time. I stayed conscious long enough to see Leland enter the room and stand next to
