Hello, I'm new to Smashwords and I am excited about this venture. I live in a rugged and beautiful part of England with my son and two dogs. We like nothing better than to explore the region in all weathers and spot the wildlife along the way.We often see the deer, wild boar and even a wild cat that most people don't believe exist here! However, this setting often triggers off ideas for my stories, which I hope you will enjoy.

Chapter 1 Amy and Josh
Josh pressed his freckled nose up against the cold window pane in his bedroom. It had been raining torrentially for two days now. He wondered gloomily when it would ever stop. Most of yesterday, through into the evening he had been engrossed playing a gruesome computer game lent to him by his friend Jay. Why he had taken it home he wasn't sure, maybe because Jay and the others would have laughed at him if he had refused. He wished now that he had asked Mum or Dad first; it would have been an excuse, as they would certainly have said no.
After all it was meant for over- eighteens, but yesterday he had envisaged the game as being exciting and it felt more so knowing he had sneaked it up to his room. He hadn't slept much either; as every time he closed his eyes the image of the predator beast filled his mind. In the quietness of the night It was so easy to imagine long nailed claws scraping the top of his wardrobe. The rain continued to slide in rivulets down his window pane; just like the drops of oozing blood when the beast had zapped him.
Josh shuddered and turned away, forcing his mind to focus on something else. Where was Fang? The half-wild cat was usually meowing loudly for his dinner by now. Dressing quickly, he rushed downstairs hoping to find him. But no, only Amy was there, as usual on her knees sweeping up spilled sawdust. Since she had her new pet rabbit for Christmas it seemed that was all she ever did, thought Josh.
Amy hardly noticed him standing there watching her, hands in pockets shaking his head. She had more important things on her mind; stuff he wouldn't understand, and it had nothing to do with rabbits. Sweeping up sawdust wasn't quite all that Amy ever did. She just didn't tell her little brother everything. 'You're wasting your time, he'll never use that litter tray,' grunted Josh. But Amy being two years older than her brother, was well used to his irritating remarks and replied calmly, 'At least I'm getting him to go to the tray. More than you can say with training Fang.'
Josh smiled to himself and shook his head, he loved winding his sister up. 'Nope you'll never do it, the rabbit is too stupid. Fang is smart and wild; he hasn't got time for a stupid litter tray. He prefers to be out hunting in the forest and exploring the crags between the rocks.
'That's your excuse,' retaliated Amy. 'Where is he this morning - I don't think he came home last night did he?'' Josh hastily admitted that he didn't know, as a pang of guilt flushed his cheeks as he struggled to think up a good excuse. He hadn't even thought of letting the cat in last night. All he had done was play on that game. Now he felt anxious. Fang hated the rain. Where would he have gone?
Mid-January was always bleak in the hills of Camberly forest. Much of the woodland was bare. The oak trees braced themselves against the sharp north-easterly wind which frisked down the valley. Fang hated the wind too, thought Josh nervously. Would he have gone to one of his favourite haunts, where the rocks and boulders provide endless excitement? Probably, he decided, but was then gripped with apprehension.
The rocky landscape led directly down to the river. With all this rain filtering down into it from the surrounding hills and mountains it would look awesome, he thought
