    Sabrina slipped between boulders leading down to the rocky beach. The smell of kelp and salt filled the air. Cold wind whipped off the Strait of Juan de Fuca and through her light blonde hair pushing it across her face. Her fleece jacket felt useless.

    The Bed and Breakfast owner suggested she walk early during low tide. The tide pools swarmed with life, sea stars, hermit crabs, urchins and anemone. As well as ten million other little creatures she couldn’t name.

    Gulls and ravens swirled in the air and perched on wet boulders, conversing loudly. Beneath it all she heard the relentless pounding of the sea. This was her first real vacation in over three years. All she’d taken was family leave to be with her father. She wondered if the sea would help heal her broken heart. Nothing else had worked so far.
