    About the Author

    Richard K. Nongard, Ph.D., is a meditation instructor, minister, and a practicing psychotherapist who has helped both professionals and individuals to learn the concepts of meditation. His experience includes both traditional mental health hospital and private practice work. He holds degrees in ministry, counseling and religion. His expertise comes from working on physician-led treatment teams as a psychotherapist or as a case manager in mental health settings.

    As a lifelong student of comparative religions, his understanding of meditative traditions and the role of cultural healers has played a significant role in his synthesis of this material. In addition to teaching patients the techniques of medical meditation, he has worked closely with family and friends to help them recover from life-threatening illnesses, and has used the materials presented in this book to promote health following his own surgery.
