No book comes about without the assistance of dedicated people. This book was compiled by myself, Erica Rische, and Sascha Hutchings. We gathered these poems from my previous six published collections of poetry for this best-of collection.
Also, a special thanks to Kandy Kidd. Her continued assistance is invaluable.

Thank you also to my readers for picking this book of poetry. It contains homilies and wisdom best taken in small doses. Here are some ideas for how the book can be used:
As a standby on your nightstand, handy by the bedside for some comforting or entertaining words
In your kitchen as you cook up nourishing meals - besides what are you going to do while the pot of water boils?
In the washroom - need I say more?
On the coffee table or in the waiting room for someone who needs to pass the time in a quiet and quick way
While on vacation, waiting in line, during your lunch break, any quiet time really
While on public transport, bus or BART, as it whisks you to your destination
In your home or office to encourage you and bolster your enthusiasm for work and life.
Enjoy my latest creative endeavor, read just little at a time! Do read! This is my gift to you.
Dedication
As a youngster born in Hanover, Germany, my mother put me on a boat to the US. I ended up in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of twelve. Living with strange families, in a strange country, like an orphan, I overcame my obstacles through hard work, by finishing high school in only three years, serving in the US army in the Euro campaign, and always working two or more jobs.
I never lost my curiosity and my interest in the arts, especially music and theater. I had my limited share of dates, ending in my forty-four-year marriage to Lillian. The road from 1935 to 2002 has been an exciting adventure, though there were many tears and disappointments along the way. I have learned that most people are good, respectful of our institutions, optimistic, tolerant, and eager to partake in and love life’s opportunities.
Recently, a new organization called One Thousand Children (OTC) was formed to honor the more than one thousand children who escaped the Nazis in Germany and fled to the US as I did. The first OTC conference was held at the end of June 2002. Most of us (the OTC) lost many family members in the Holocaust. We also lost most of our childhood, and the love of parents and relatives who were left behind.
I particularly dedicate this book to the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust and never had the opportunity to enjoy life.
