About this ebook

Secrets in Seeing the West of Ireland is designed to help you plan your trip to the West of Ireland. Over the years, I have traveled to Ireland many times. Some years ago, people accross the United States began to ask me to help them plan their trip to Ireland. The developing of many such plans and accumulating a wealth of information became the foundation of my publishing this book.

There are many excellent books on traveling in Ireland. Most of these are well done and very comprehensive. What makes this book unique is, of the hundreds of things that one can do in the West of Ireland, this book sorts out the specific things that I am recommending for someone visiting Ireland for the first or second time.

In addition to helping you decide what to see and where to go, there are sections in this book addressing tourism in Ireland, flying to Ireland, where to stay, driving considerations, directions, weather, what to wear, geography and government. Additionally, the book includes my email address if you want to ask me specific questions.

    About the Author

    Chapter 1 Introduction

This Guide focuses only on the West of Ireland. This is because over the years I have found this part of Ireland to be the most interesting and where I have found the most enjoyment. This includes primarily the counties of Clare, Galway, Limerick, Cork and Kerry. However, most all of Ireland is truly special and each county has a great deal to offer.

This Guide does not cover Dublin. I have visited Dublin many times both on business trips and on holidays. Ireland’s largest city has in recent years transformed itself from a sleepy laid back city to one of the real cosmopolitan cities of the world. The city today has much to offer visitors from the United States and from around the world.

When I am enjoying a holiday or vacation in Ireland, I generally fly into Shannon which is a short distance from Limerick City and stay in Killarney Town in County Kerry. As a result, directions to many places in this Guide begin in Killarney.

I believe that what makes this Guide unique is that, if you are visiting Ireland, especially for the first or second time, this Guide presents recommendations I am giving to you personally. There are, indeed, many excellent travel books that have been written about Ireland that can be found in most libraries and bookstores. These books contain a great deal of information about Ireland, however, they do not offer much assistance in deciding, of the many things
