Cathey Newhouse
Cathey Newhouse wrote and published in the '80s then graduated from Southern Illinois at Edwardsville, IL with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication in 1995. She spent 13 years designing pages and odds, comma ends, in community newspapers. In 2010 she published her first book, THE DREAM MYSTERY Grandpa's Buried Treasure. It is a teen mystery/adventure but a fun read for all ages. Her husband Dale and daughter Tricia live in Southern Illinois. They have children, grandchildren, one cat and three fish ponds. She is a gardener, a blogger, a facebooker and a graphic artist.

Chapter 1: Blast off
I ran into the finger printed door frame which caused me to trip over my daughter's part lion, part elf, what is it stuffed critter. I picked up the toy and tossed it in the direction of the toy box. The kids room looked like a thrift shop had exploded with toys and clothes scattered all over the floor, dresser and beds.
At the corner of the bedroom where the upright vacuum cleaner stood, I pulled the old Eureka out, rolled the machine in to the living room, and plugged the cord into the white wall socket next to the dusty lamp and finger printed end table.
10, 9, 8, 7, 6…Blast off!
I said and pushed the button on the handle of the vacuum cleaner. The rumbling thunderous noise plummeted me into another world...
The stars twinkled outside the window of the silver U.S. Eureka on the black velvet universe. They seemed so close I wanted to reach out and pick them like a yellow squash growing in the black soil of my garden...
Mom, I'm thirsty,
my daughter Tina hollered. I turned off the vacuum cleaner.
Michael,
I hollered, Get your sister a drink.
Do I have to?
he whined.
Yes,
I said and restarted the machine
