Letter bocks

I STAYED up late last month to see that International Space Station fly over our house. Quite apart from the disappointment of just seeing a white dot cross the sky, I was very concerned at the speed they appeared to be doing. I don’t care how much NASA has spent at Halfords on spoilers and go-faster stripes, we’ve got speed humps and a 20mph limit on our estate, and I reckon they must have been doing at least 17000mph. I’ll be watching for them again next month and hope to see the police in pursuit.

CHANCELLOR Sunak proved his utter incompetence with the announcement of his Autumn budget. Putting 81p on a bottle of Buckfast, but nothing on meths? That’s about £600 a year the Exchequer has lost from me already. And this man is supposed to be in charge of balancing the books.

WHATEVER happened to Dido Harding? A couple of years ago, she was never out of the news for making a balls-up of one thing or another, and now she’s nowhere to be seen. Perhaps everything that needed ballsing-up has been ballsed-up, so she’s having a bit of time off. Anyway, I’m sure when something else comes along that needs ballsing-up, Boris will give her the nod.

A FRIEND of mine is the Vice Chancellor at a leading UK University, and last night he invited four of the world’s most eminent climate scientists round to his house to discuss the outcome of the recent COP26 meeting in Glasgow. Towards the end of the evening, he asked them if they would help shift a really heavy table from one of the upstairs rooms to his kitchen, which they duly did. Have any other readers had any internationally renowned experts in their scientific field do a spot of furniture removals for them?
