Another Christmas Wish for Ferver Black - Marc Jarrod

Ferver Black was mortal. After living as a vampire for the last two hundred years, life was good. At least he thought life was good. Able to sleep at night and enjoy the sun during the day, it was shock and a morbid sense of reasoning that he missed being a vampire. As a vampire-cop, Ferver possessed powers and capabilities beyond mortal men. He had strength, sharp senses and speed to handle most situations.

Ferver may just get his wish to going back to being a vampire as fate forces him to turn once again. Is it force or unadulterated love for a woman?

    Prologue

Ferver Black loved his new bride, Genevieve, with all his heart. After being a vampire for the last two hundred years, it was glorious to be a mortal again. He now enjoyed the things that most mortals took for granted. In particular--basking in the sun was a favorite pastime since he no longer needed to worry about blistering skin, which could lead to death.

Enjoying the tweeting birds and the scampering squirrels were now treats to his restored soul. He relished his new life much the same way a blind man embraced sight. He was determined to live life to its fullest.

Since becoming mortal, a year ago, Ferver had been busy being a cop while Ginny remained employed as a nurse at a local hospital. They were married in a quiet ceremony several months after Ferver killed Lucien Baptiste. Ferver moved out of his house and into Ginny's. They talked about having children, but with their work schedule, they decided to wait a while.

Ferver, a New Orleans cop, took the promotion test for Police Lieutenant and is now awaiting the results. Achieving the Lieutenancy would mean more money, which in turn, would allow Ginny and he to settle down and concentrate on starting a family. Reflecting on his life as a mortal and all the things he can look forward to, Ferver knows that life is good.

    Chapter One

After hundreds of years of living as a vampire and finally being a mortal, Ferver Black realized that life--mortal life--was good. At least Ferver thought life was good. Unfortunately, to his shock and with a morbid sense of reasoning, at times he actually missed being a vampire. As a vampire-cop, Ferver had many benefits such as--as the old Superman TV show intro stated--powers and capabilities far beyond those of mortal men. He had strength, sharp senses, and speed to handle most situations. When the need arose where he had a stubborn suspect who resisted arrest, all Ferver would have to do is show his fangs and the poor sap would quiver like JELL-O.

Now, he had to rely strictly on human capabilities. So far, cruising down the streets as an earthly creature had been enough to get through life as a mortal. However, he knew that one day he would miss the vampire traits that had saved his and his partners' lives on more than one occasion. As a cop in one of the most vampire saturated cities in America, Ferver knew without any doubt that he would come across a vampire and he hoped his now-human form would be able to save the day. For his own security and peace of mind, Ferver still kept his two wooden stakes stored in his car's trunk, just in case he came upon a member of the undead.

Even though vampires usually plagued the city, over the last year, Ferver noticed a significant drop in vamp activities. At first, he did not know what to make of this new situation, then remembered the night that literally turned his life upside down. The night when his archenemy, Lucien Baptiste, died, he told Ferver that those vampires he had sired would revert to human form.

Could it be that simple, that a vampire, who was hundreds of years old, had turned so many that he was responsible for the majority of the vamp population in New Orleans?

Shortly after he raised the question to himself, he ran into a man who admitted he was once a vampire, now-turned mortal. Ferver asked him if he knew the name of his sire. At first, the man seemed so reticent to say the name aloud, as though it might conjure the vampire back into existence. With a little coaxing, Ferver heard the name he knew would resonate from the
