Hi.My name is John Madderson and I love writing horror.I was born in the small industrial seaside town of Blyth Northumberland. In 1964 I joined the Army and enlisted into the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers where in 1966 I met my wife Sylvia while on leave from Germany en-route to Aden and active service. On returning to England Sylvia and I were married and in 1968 we were blessed with our son Lee Raymond. In 1977 I left the army and went into self-employment for a great number of years. I have had a full life but now nearing my retirement I have taken up writing and dedicate my time into bringing back the original saga of Dracula and the blood craved beast he was created to be (with a slight twist.)My books, under the sub-title “The Vampire Hunter,” are a series of four books each depicting a separate time in the past, present and future. The two main characters the villain Alucard, and the hero Joseph Beck, are locked in an eternal battle from which there can be but one survivor.EnjoyJohn Madderson.

Dear reader the following descriptions below are to assist you in your understanding of the creatures within this book.

    A Vampire parasite

A vampire parasite is an air-born blood sucking creature of unknown origin. Some believe that it came to earth millions of years ago via a space-craft or meteorite. Over the millenniums this one time irritating little bug mutated and grew to the size of a tad-poll and has the ability to invade and infest the dead bodies of humans in order to use the body as a vessel in which to overpower its victims.

    A Vampire

The vampire is a dead brainless decaying corps controlled by the parasites tentacles reaching into the body’s limbs and manipulating movement.

    A New-breed

A new-breed is a liven human being who was mistakenly infected by the parasite and now in order for it to survive, has endowed that person with its own abilities of flight, nocturnal vision, strength and enhanced senses and extremely long life.

    A Toad

Toads are neither dead nor alive. They are strong and highly intelligent and are flesh-eaters through their main purpose are to guard the vampires. They are called toads because of their uncanny facial resemblance to the said amphibian.

    CHAPTER ONE

    SLAUGHTER IN THE MEADOW

It was in the spring of 57, when I had my first real break. A sighting of a large bat like creature had been reported killing and feeding off the decimated remains of a cow on a farm on the outskirts of Tilburg in Holland. There had been other reports over the years, but none of them had amounted to anything. It had been twelve years since the end of the war and during that time there had been numerous stories of flying creatures sighted all over this, and other countries, but mainly the stories were disregarded as fairy tales, tales told by disturbed people. Although, some of them were investigated, particularly when regarding missing people, most had been disregarded. However this one was different, this one mentioned two main characteristics that I had firsthand knowledge of and that I knew to be true. One was the fact that the farmer had in the report mentioned that on his approach to scare off the beast he had noticed that, when it had stood up, it strongly resembled a human! When asked why he thought it resembled a human, he replied, that when the creature stood up it was on two legs and also that it had arms. However the farmer was somewhat confused by the hideous sounds coming from the creatures mouth and he went on to say that it sounded like it was growling and hissing like a wild animal! He had fired his shotgun twice at the hideous beast while it remained standing and was positively sure that he had hit it on both occasions, but to no avail as the beast slowly raised its head and began to hiss and screech at him once again. The farmer went on to explain in his report that its eyes were black and penetrating, while its mouth flashed red! This on its own simply meant to me that its mouth was full of blood and that it could have been a wild beast, but when the report went on to mention that it had no apparent wings as such, and yet had taken flight, disappearing into the night sky. I realised that the beast the farmer had seen was most definitely a vampire, although probably not the General. Convinced that the creature was a vampire, I caught the next train across the border into Belgium, then a connection into Holland, and made my way across country towards Tilburg by car. My plan was simply to mingle with the rest of the reporters and hunters drawn to the area by the report of a wild beast roaming free across the country; also I felt that I needed the protection of a large group of people, just in case. Alucard would be there, he would be there watching, gloating, feeding off my fear, somewhere out there walking amongst the crowds, but I felt that he wouldn’t tip his hand, not around so many people, and cameras. Consequently, I felt reasonably safe from any reprisal from him, whilst in a crowd!

16.35 hours. On reaching the area I was surprised by the amount of interest this particular sighting of a wild beast had made. The road, which was really just a narrow two lane gravel track, was packed with vehicles of all descriptions, including the latest of mobile television vehicles. A track led from the road winding amongst the trees for about a kilometre before opening up into a vast lush green meadow and after a short walk I found myself standing on a ridge overlooking a farmhouse. Instantly I was surprised by its similarities of the meadow in Bavaria and the last encounter with Baron Wolfgang Alucard. The area looked very similar; the farmhouse was to the north of the large meadow while surrounded by a huge forest of pine and oak trees. The ground cover along the edge of the tree line was dense with bracken and fern which would make it very difficult to enter the meadow on foot without using the track. It was a trap; I had my reservations about it when I’d read the report and now on seeing the layout of the land, confirmed it. I had always known that the General would need to do something like this in order to draw me out and into the open, and into a situation that he could control; I knew this because I couldn’t understand why the vampire had allowed the farmer to live! Alucard was here, I knew he was, and I felt that he would be very close, he would be watching me, and so for the present at least I decided to stay very close to the others!

Exciting, isn’t it? a tall ruddy faced man asked.

Eh yes! I replied surprised by the man’s sudden appearance.

    Well, what do you reckon?

    Reckon!

Yeah, what do you reckon did it, a friend of mine reckons it’s the work of a deranged maniac recently escaped from a nut-house, so what do you think?

Eh probably! I said not wanting to get into too much of a conversation with him.

Yeah I thought so too, he said nodding in approval, mind you there’s a lot of them about, deranged people I mean, I blame the war!

    The war!

Yeah sure, wasn’t in it myself though, bad knees you know, but if you ask me some of them can’t stop killing, it gets to you know!

He turned and waved at some others entering the meadow.

Excuse me; my party of hunters have arrived!

I watched him disappear down the track and waited until he was out of earshot.

Idiot! I said under my breath as I watched him strike up a conversation with the others and probably telling them of his theory.

I agree-a total prick! someone said behind me.

I spun around almost knocking him to the ground.

    What!

Him! he indicated with a nod of his head at the man shaking hands with his friends. I watched him as he took a long drew from his cigarette then, dropping it to the ground, he scrubbed it out with a well polished shoe before raising his head. He blew the last inhale of smoke from his lungs up into the air.

    Total prick! he repeated again.

Who is he-do you know him? I asked

Good god no, not sure I want to either, anyone with a bit of sense would see it was a werewolf attack!

    A werewolf?

Sure, what else, listen a lot of bad stuff came out of the war what with all those experiments and stuff, believe me I know?

Bad stuff! I said, but he had already moved on.

I looked at him as he walked off talking to himself and I shook my head in dismay. However he wasn’t far short of the truth, a werewolf! I sighed. Almost as preposterous as a vampire! I muttered to myself.

03.24 hours. An owl hooting in the dead of night woke me from a very disturbed sleep; I raised myself up onto my elbows and looked around the television crew’s tent, which, for a small amount of money I had secured a place in the corner. Unable to sleep I got up and carefully, as I had no wish to wake anyone, I walked to the flap of the tent and threw it open. The air was still and smelt of damp dew while the moon, in all its splendour, hung large and full high in the darkened sky, the occasional silver grey cloud silently slipping by underneath the moon’s shroud and then gradually disappearing back into the darkness. Suddenly, I was aware of my own parasite moving around in my body, it had sensed something, something outside, another vampire and it was close. Steadily it moved up into my head, my eyes flashed red and my night vision suddenly improved as it settled behind my eyes and looked through the windows of my eyes searching, penetrating the night. However, this was not the best of time to attract the anger of a vampire and I retreated back into the tent. I felt sure that the vampire would have had its instructions and that it would not have entered the tent, or allowed itself to be seen by others, it had done what it had been instructed to do, and that was to let me know that it knew where to find me. The rest of the night was to say the least, agonizingly long, and I spent what felt like eternity watching the shallow wind blowing the tent flap to and fro, and by morning I was red eyed and felt utterly exhausted.

The night had been spent thinking back to the time in 1944, when we had been ordered by General Alucard to escort a convoy out of Russia during the retreat. At that time we were unaware of its contents, but soon realised what it was we were protecting. We were trying to think of a way to kill the hideous looking creatures that were driving the four wagons. Creatures we had become to know as toads due to the uncanny facial resemblance to that particular amphibian as it was painfully obvious that they would have to be destroyed first before we would ever reach the vampires in the wagons. We were still trying to formulate a line of attack when on the fourth or fifth day of our journey we came upon a clearing in the woods concealing what appeared to be a small stone built pyramid. Unknown to us at the time, the pyramid was a vampire chamber and we were to be their hosts. We were gathered in the hollow discussing our plan of attack to rid the world of the vampires when the toads turned on us and in the pursuing gun fight two of the toads lay dead along with all my men. I had been badly wounded and had passed out with the pain and left for dead by the remaining two toads. When I had regained consciousness, I had gathered up the bodies of my men and buried them in the hollow alongside the pyramid. However, while gathering up the bodies of my men I had found a strange soft leathery locket, it was bright and seemed to be vibrating, curiosity had got the better of me, and I opened it only to be confronted by a wisp of clear white smoke rising from the open locket. Slowly the smoke dissipated and a creature of about five centimetres long resembling a leach appeared in front of me. At first I was surprised as it seemed to float in the air only a metre from my face. It had large eyes and seemed to stare into my face. Suddenly it changed its appearance as its body stretched into a long fine thread! I opened my mouth in surprise then in a second the creature entered my body through my open mouth and now infected by the vampire it found, and much to my relief, that it could not control me. The creature had entered a living body and now it was trapped inside me. I soon learned that in order for it to survive it had to ensure that I survived, and since then I’d used it to my advantage, although somewhat restricted! I had exceptional hearing, eye sight and smell, and although only for a kilometre or so I could levitate and fly. However I had to use my new found powers sparingly as my abilities came with a penalty, my vampire required blood to live on, and as I did not crave for human blood, the vampire fed on mine. Consequently I needed to eat more frequently and due to that, I was too heavy for the vampire to
