A MYSTERIOUS VILLAIN IS THERE, EVERY STEP OF THE WAY
SHE IS ONE BULLET TOO SLOW
Peter and Clara are beginning to piece together a few fragments about her forgotten memories from clues they find and what they have uncovered from her hypnosis sessions. But as they race to find other pieces to the puzzle, an unknown person is on a vendetta to punish the other person hiding behind Clara’s mysterious black outs.
It is clear from the moment they met that unknown people are trying to kill Clara, and since then Peter has helped her find out why while they dodge the authorities and assassins’ bullets.
And then Clara is finally able to talk to the faceless villain who has injected her with the virus that is literally killing her every minute. Before her time runs out, she needs to find him and take from him the answers to the final questions that will probably stalk her to her grave.
But the villain has something else in mind, and it is about vengeance. Since he believes that “Angel” has taken something from him, and just like the others, he also wants her life in return.

EXCERPT
We made our way through the house, and I thought I could, strangely, smell bacon cooking. Then I realized that it was probably my skin starting to boil under the intense heat of the flames. Once I got to the door that she had pointed out, I opened it to find that the stairs going down to the basement had been completely obliterated.
“We are going to have to jump, so try to tuck your legs in underneath you when you land. You will want to avoid permanent injury to your legs.”
This didn't sound like me – my alter ego Angel... that part of me that called herself Angel ... was probably bleeding into my subconscious once again. Instead of fighting her, I allowed her to take control and guide me into taking the appropriate action.
“Are you fucking mad, Clara? That has to be at least six feet straight down! How do you suppose we are going to make that leap without breaking every bone in our body?”
I wasn't going to allow her to question my methods. Better broken bone than dead – for her. I was going to die very soon anyway.
So I pushed her into the blackness and then followed her screaming form down, hoping that I wasn't going to land on her when I came to a stop.

Lily Green
Lily Green is 41, divorced, and lives in Pacific Heights, San Francisco. She has two sons—Michael, 22 and Todd, 18. Lily has a dark past—she was adopted as a child by a well-meaning, homey schoolteacher and her husband, a bartender. Her adopted father abused her as a child, and in her late teens, she decided she had had enough and reported the incident both to her mom, and the local police. Her mother, instead of coming to her aid, decided to evict her. Lily, therefore, had to move into the city and fend for herself, working odd jobs to put herself through college. She married Howard, a fellow student, and father to both her sons. They parted ways when Todd was 3. Michael is in medical school—an intern—with a pre-med degree in Psychiatry. Michael resides in L.A. Todd is a student at San Francisco University, taking up Dance as his major. Both Michael and Todd are single. Her former husband is Howard, head of an architecture firm. Though he and Lily are estranged, he helps put the kids through college. Lily herself was a dance choreographer—and now teaches Development of Dance Techniques and Dance Theory—part time. She is known to date men several years her junior, as she finds most men her age or older to be “too serious” and “boring." She has a healthy appetite for sex, but finds getting into a serious relationship for long periods “a waste of time." She feels she has yet to find a man her equal both intellectually and physically. She does not believe in “love”—she defines relationships as a meeting of minds and a consensual approval of helping the other grow. Lily is into organic food and is a health and exercise buff (though mostly incidental—the exercising helps “clear her mind”). She is into “centering” and yoga. She has yet to give up smoking, though. She loves to shop but within reason. Anything excessive and lavish has to be justified, she feels. Lily is deeply into social work (she is a member of the local LGBT group as a generous donor for free HIV testing drives, among other advocacies.). She is also an advocate for animal adoption. She describes herself as “a city girl with a small-town heart."

Chapter One
STANDING THERE IN the middle of Steve's apartment, I looked around with a sense of wonder and awe. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Steve was gone, but the most disturbing thing about it all was the fact that all of his stuff was gone, too. Not one single thing was left behind, including dishes and furniture, making this place look like it hadn't been lived in for years.
I've checked all over the apartment, and there is no sign of anyone living here. The closet is empty, and all the hangers are just sitting there with nothing even remotely resembling any clothing hanging from them. Are you sure that this is your friend's apartment? I mean, you look around and it doesn't even look like this place has been lived in.
I was still staring at the floor, seeing that even the carpeting had been taken out of the place, and that was unusual for someone that had skipped out on his lease.
It's his place, but you wouldn't know it to look at it. It's possible that he left in a hurry but... that wouldn't explain the carpet missing, because who takes the carpeting?
I saw that Peter was walking around scratching at his chin again, obviously in some deep thought. He looked like he had seen this type of thing before and was trying to find the best way to inform me of what he was thinking.
Something happened here that goes beyond you and him being neighbors. This whole place looks like it's been wiped clean. They've essentially gotten rid of any kind of evidence that he even lived here.
I've never actually been in his apartment... and I remember now. He was hiding behind his door each and every time that I knocked. I never gave it a thought at the time, but I began to rethink it now, wondering just what all of this was about.
I was really hoping that he might have some answers for us, but seeing all this only raises more questions.
I wasn't sure what to do now, because this was our only lead. Now, it had gone up in smoke. We may as well get out of here, because the longer we stay here the more likely we are going to be noticed.
He was shaking his head now. His mind was probably going a million miles an hour, and I was right there with him. It just didn't seem possible that all of this was happening, and now it was looking like Steve was a part of this from the very start.
Peter climbed back out onto
