About this ebook

What do you get when you mix a guy that works for the law and a girl that breaks the law?

A whole lot of trouble.

It was supposed to be a one night stand. No names or strings attached. And part ways in the morning.

Lucky is an officer of the law, waiting on his big break to become detective.

Daphne just needs to get enough cash to help her parents pay off her Dad's medical bills that keep piling up. She and a few friends hatch a plan. And running from the law seems like the most logical thing to do.

Lucky and Daphne's path cross again. This time there is no denying the chemistry that blazes between them.

Can they coexist on opposite sides of the law? How far would they go to hide the truth?

Ahhhh, I never know what to write when it comes to the dedication. There is only so many times you can dedicate a book to your husband or family member, even though they deserve praise each and every time.

So, I will leave you with a random fun fact.

A book called 'A la recherche du temps perdu' by Marcel Proust contains an estimated 9,609,000 characters, making it the longest book in the world. The title translates to Remembrance of Things Past.

    CHAPTER ONE

    DAPHNE

Thanks so much for coming. It means a lot to me, Daphne. My cousin Jayme slides her arm across my shoulders.

It’s an important day, you know I wouldn’t miss it. Don’t try to get me to catch the bouquet later, I quip. I felt ridiculous in the black halter, cocktail dress I am wearing because I never wear dresses. Pass me my Converse.

    Deal. She beams.

Now who’s single and ready to mingle? I ask, half joking and searching the room.

After scanning the room, she points to someone. That guy right over there, looking at you, his name is Lucky. I’d go for him, she suggests, with a wide smile and a wink.

Names aren’t important; I’m only hoping for a little action. That should be a perk at all wedding receptions. He is tall, tan, and definitely sexy with tattoos peeking out of his suit. I wouldn’t mind wrapping my legs around his lean waist. My eyes catch his, and he raises his glass from across the room. I spot his deep dimples when he smiles at me.

See? Already off to a good start, Jayme says happily as she watches our interaction.

I raise my glass in the air to him in return and take a big gulp. I’m already three glasses of champagne in and feeling flighty without a care in the world.

I’ll catch you later, Jayme. I kiss her on the cheek as her groom pulls her in for a dance. I smile at the groom and admire the love they have for each other. I, on the other hand, don’t have plans on settling down anytime soon. Tonight, I need some careless moments to forget my life.

Tilting my head at Lucky, I motion for him to follow me, flashing my smile. Exiting the ballroom, I make my way to the reception desk to grab a last-minute room. Once the room key is securely in my hand, I sense Lucky following behind me. When I reach the door, I put the key card in and press my side into the door. Damn, a man in a suit gets me every time. Watching, I wait for him to come closer before opening the door all the way.

Hey, he says, grinning. His eyes crinkle at the sides, and I melt. I’m Lucky. It’s then that I notice he has really nice hazel eyes.

Shutting the door behind us, I pull on his tie. Well, Lucky, you’re about to get lucky.

I don’t offer my name. With the door shut, he traps me against it, one arm caging me in while he kisses me. His hand grazes my bare arms, sending goosebumps all over my body.

His lips crash against mine, and I quickly work the buttons of his white dress shirt, while the zipper to my dress is being dragged down, causing it to fall in a heap at my high-heeled feet.

You can leave those on, he says, showing off his dimples again.

I quickly shove his shirt off and work to undo his belt. Finally, I am graced with his nakedness, and a hard swallow follows as I take him in. His left arm is completely adorned with tattoos, a heart, a few skulls and cross-bones type ones, and a few three-leaf clovers. His body is cut in all the right places, including the mouthwatering V shape.

Spinning me around, he backs me up, the back of my legs hit the bed as I fall onto my back, letting him tower over me. I don’t normally do this type of thing, but he looks safe enough to have a fling with. One night, so I
