Wayward Dane, writing high fantasy in English!By now you have probably read hundreds of author bios showcasing various fancy awards and such. I won't bore you with that (mostly because I don't have any...), so here's a few things about me:1. I'm a total geek2. I'm into gaming3. I own an owl4. I probably mostly own an owl because no one would sell me a dragon5. I do archery6. I do cosplay7. I'm really not nearly as interesting as the above facts would lead you to believe

She really needed to learn to say no…

Selissa cursed herself silently as she stalked through the streets of the city. She was not sure exactly how or when it had happened, but at some point people had started to assume that she would take on whatever dirty work they needed done but weren't willing to do themselves. She hadn't had any plans about becoming a mercenary, especially not one in the employment of the Sinarian clergy, but as usually, no one cared much what she thought.

She didn't even want to think about how she had ended up here, hunting down some demented murderer in this far-off city way up north in the Aneira province. It simply wasn't worth wondering where she had taken a wrong turn in dealing with the less-than-friendly priests of the Aneira temple. She still didn't know why they had thought she was the most suitable person for dealing with this. Whatever was going on, it had absolutely no connection to her.

Selissa looked up at the large buildings that surrounded her on all sides with unease. She hated larger cities. She felt trapped within their confining walls and the crowded streets always made her uncomfortable.

Someone accidentally pushed into her shoulder and she flinched away, every muscle in her body tense. The other person walked on ignorantly, quickly disappearing into the throng of people hurrying down the street. Selissa rubbed her shoulder and glared into the crowd, even though she knew it was useless. With an irritated huff, she turned around to continue in the direction she had been going.

The good thing about cities was that no one paid her any mind. In the smaller villages, a stranger with no apparent purpose would attract unwanted attention, but here she could blend effortlessly into the crowd.

Her task was to find and eliminate the one responsible for several gruesome and seemingly meaningless murders in the city. Any attempt at catching the unknown murderer had resulted in several dead law-enforcers, and as such, the local priests had decided that the only solution involved seeing the perpetrator dead.

Seeing as Aneira was the Archangel of War, Selissa supposed she shouldn't be surprised at her priests' willingness to enforce such drastic methods, but murder was rarely an option the clergy agreed on.

Of course, 'murder' was never the word used in her job description, but Selissa had dealt with the priests of Sinaria long enough to hear all the things never spoken out loud. No one ever called her a mercenary, either…

Someone else knocked into her and her hand almost flew to the hilt of one of the twin swords strapped to her back before she managed to stop herself. She really wasn't cut out for crowded places...
