Hi,
Last month I talked about Kickstarter and other crowd sourcing websites, and the effect they were having on the toy industry, and action figures in particular.
Following last month's issue Mattel failed to hit their target of subscriptions for their DCU line of figures and as a result this line looks like it will be discontinued, but you can read more on that in the news section. Just let me add that I think this seems to becoming a trend among Action Figure manufacturers, who are hustling for pre-orders before they commit to a line. Often without any artwork or indication on price etc, we are expected to take it on blind trust.
Personally, I feel this is an abuse of their position and that eventually only the MOST popular lines will make it into plastic, eventually killing off the industry and market.
Do You Make Custom Figures?
If you make your own customized action figures, whether as a hobby or for business I would love to hear from you and feature your latest figure here.
From the next issue there will be a regular Customs Corner section in the magazine featuring tips and how to...
articles on customizing action figures and there will be a Readers Showcase, featuring YOUR figures!
If you wish to have your figure(s) showcased please send me pictures and a details of how you made your figure your figure and I will publish it here and on the AFR website and at the end of the year there will be a vote to find the Years Best Custom Figure!

Following last month's news that unless enough subscriptions were sold that the MOTU and DCU lines would be cancelled, it seems that on the last day enough MOTU subs were sold to keep it alive, but unfortunately there weren't enough takers for the DCU line and as a result this has now been cancelled.
Matty Collector haven't completely ruled out releasing any more figures, yet tho' and posted on their site that;
It will take us a while to figure out where we can go from here. It may be possible to release a few DCU figures quarterly, or to release 12 figures at higher non-subscription prices. Or, we may have to say a final goodbye to this line at the end of this year. Without the sub, we just don't know what's possible at this point. Over the next few months we'll be meeting internally and with all of our partners at Warner Bros., DC Comics, and Sony, and we'll let you know as soon as we can what our options are.
So, let's keep
Mezco's October Treat, But No Tricks!
As a chill creeps into the air and the leaves explode with color, thoughts naturally turn to Halloween. This year, Mezco makes the time honored-tradition of Trick Or Treating even more thrilling by removing the tricks with their All Treats, No Tricks Mystery Box.
Each of Mezco's 666 Mystery Boxes will contain a full size 10 inch Living Dead Doll, and one of those 666 dolls will be a one of a kind Red Krampus! This one-of a-kind Red Krampus features a bone colored mask with vibrant, fiery red fur. He will be randomly packed, in his coffin, in one of the 666 All Treats, No Tricks Mystery Boxes.
The standard Krampus Living Dead Dolls were made as a European Exclusive. The limited number available in the US sold out almost instantly, proving that Krampus Living Dead Dolls were a hit with collectors everywhere, both naughty and nice.
Limited Edition Transformer Figure
Linkin Park have long enjoyed a relationship with Transformers, thanks to the band lending songs to all of the Transformers movie soundtracks. Now, the guys have gone a bit further in their Transformers love, as Linkin Park's, DJ Joe Hahn, has designed a limited edition Linkin Park imprinted action figure of the popular Transformers character Soundwave.
The active figure has something to do with music, too. The Linkin Park G1 Soundwave Transformer changes from a robot to a cassette player and arrives complete with four cassette minions that sit in its chest area. The figure stands at seven-inches tall.
The Linkin Park G1 Soundwave Transformer isn't cheap. The figure costs $150 and is available via the SURU LA online store. Hats and t-shirts featuring the action figure are also on sale.
As for Linkin Park's relationship with the Transformers movie soundtracks, the band What I've Done
off 2007's Minutes to Midnight appeared on the soundtrack for 2007's Transformers
movie; New Divide
was the theme song for 2009's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
; and Iridescent
off 2010's A Thousand Suns
appeared on the soundtrack for 2011's Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
