About this ebook
Bobby (Bruiser) Parker is bored with his day to day job at Kelly Security. He should have known better than to wish for something to get him out of the office. His wish was quickly answered.
Bruiser and his elite protection team are given the task of keeping a murder witness alive until the killers are caught. It should be a simple enough task for a group of former Special Forces and government agents. The killers however have other ideas as well as inside information.
Bruiser must keep the daughter of a Wealthy Tulsa Oilman alive against a force of former friends. They are well armed, well equipped, well informed and led by one of Bruisers former SEAL team members, who was supposed to be dead.
To keep the woman alive Bruiser must face his former friend, find out who is behind the operation and try real hard not to fall in love with her

Forward
The young lady leaned against the back of her car. She loved the park at night because it was so peaceful. This was her favorite spot in the whole place. Just hidden from the road, but still in view of Sherry Lake. Her mother and her had come here often for picnics, or just to spend time together.
She heard the approaching cars before she saw them. She stepped back into the shadows. The police patrolled the park regularly, to keep out the kids. A lot of them, the kids, came here to drink, get high or have sex. She had seen plenty of each the last few months. If the police found her here, as they had several times, they would only make her leave. Most of them knew her by now.
The two cars pulled off the paved road onto the dirt lane that went right past her. She was pretty sure they hadn’t seen her. It was possible they may have caught a glimpse of her car, but she didn’t think so. They stopped less than fifty yards from her. It was clear to her that they weren’t the police. She moved quietly closer for a look.
She watched quietly as two men got out of the front of one car and pulled another man from the back. The guy from the back appeared to have his hands tied behind him.
A girl got out of the other car, leaving the door open. She could hear them talking but couldn’t make out the words. They sounded angry. One of the men knocked the guy from the back to his knees. She saw his face clearly. He was City Councilman Edward Collins.
The girl bent close and said something to him. Edward shouted, never!
The girl slapped him hard. Then she pulled a gun and shot him twice in the back of the head.
She knew she screamed. She couldn’t help herself. The three looked in her direction. She ran blindly to her car. The new Mustang GT started quickly and she floored the gas without turning on the lights.
She drove faster than she felt was safe. She put off turning on her lights until she was well out of the park on 46th street north. She drove straight to the closest Quick Trip. She knew that this was the quickest way to find a cop. As she had hoped, a Tulsa Police Cruiser was in the parking lot. She ran to the female officer and told her the story.
Chapter 1
I hate being in my office more than anything I can think of. It’s the worst part of my job as Director of Operations for Kelly Security. Not all that long ago my job had meant something. Now it’s mostly just a bunch of administration stuff. I try hard not to get things done too fast. If I’m lucky I can take my time and spend three days a month doing actual work. If you call signing papers and that kinda stuff work.
My name is Robert Parker. Most folks call me Bruiser, on account of my size, or just Bobby. At five nine I ain’t tall but I’m a pretty big guy. More than one person has referred to me thick.
I was raised in the hills of West Virginia. My Pops was a mean son of a bitch that drank most of his life and took his troubles out on mom and us kids. That was probably why she left him.
I went to the Navy at seventeen. I was a SEAL for eight of those twelve years. Being on the teams taught me responsibility and self-discipline. It was a part of my life I never left behind. I still even manage to keep up the exercise routine as much as I can.
Now there is one part of my job that I truly love. I am the team leader of a highly specialized personal protection unit. I got twenty-five out-standing men and women on my team. Each of these people was hand picked and personally trained by me and my boss and partner, Brian Kelly.
Brian was my team leader in the SEALs and a bunch of us came here to Tulsa to help him start this company. This was not long after he took a round in Iraq.
Kelly Security has three protection units. There is my Tulsa unit, which is the biggest and in my opinion the best. Then there’s the Oklahoma City team. Finally our smallest team is the team I formed when I ran the Kansas City office. All of the teams are good. They can all usually get the job done but when things get tuff they always call on my people and me.
My team hasn’t seen a lot of action since this thing in the city four months ago with Brad Harris. That had been one hell of an ordeal.
Harris, a corporate lawyer had ended up surprising everyone, including me. When it was all over the head of an offshoot Russian Mafia group and his only son lay dead in front of Harris’ quiet Guthrie farmhouse.
It was right after that my Mandy left. I guess I can’t blame her for leavin. I ain’t exactly a easy person to live with. Hell she was still just a kid when we met. Not exactly a kid, I ain’t no pervert, but she was nine years younger than I was.
I loved her in a way. It just wasn’t the way she needed me to. We were together for ten years, most of them were good. I guess she got tired of tryin. I miss her from time to time. I guess I shoulda married her.
She is happy now and living in Kansas City again. We talk once in a while cause she’s still with the company. Other than that occasional phone call, our life together is over.
One good thing about not needing a lot of time to do my job, I have a lot of time to do other things. I teach self-defense classes to a group of young kids for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Once a week Hank Miller and Brad Harris come up from the city. They play a round of golf with Brian and me. Mostly we lose a hell of a lot of balls and drink even more beer.
I race stock cars around a dirt track sometimes on the weekends. Some times I win sometimes I don’t. I always have a hell of a time either way.
I guess you could say things in my life are pretty good. Most people would be happy to be in my shoes. Still, most of the time, I feel like I’m missing something.
Chapter 2
I was surprised to see Bailey Kelly in my office this morning. Even though she is Brian’s wife and more like a sister to me, I have to tell you she still has an effect on me. She is by far one of the overall best-looking women I have ever met.
She has these two permanent white streaks in her otherwise almost black hair that frames her face. They serve to remind us all of the shit we went through just over ten years ago. I am not alone in the opinion that they make her look even more attractive.
She spends a hell of a lot of time in the gym, which keeps any evidence of her two daughters hidden from view. Every time I see her I can’t help but think, Brian, you are one lucky son of a bitch!
The way she looks aside I respect the Hell out of Bailey. She is a strong woman and not the least bit put off by living in the mostly man dominated security world.
Hi ya Bailey. What brings you all the way down the hall?
She smiled at me, her green eyes sparkling. Boss man wants to see you in the conference room. He has a job for you and your team. I just thought I would bring the news personally.
I appreciate that Bailey. I always enjoy your visits. They are even better than the first cup of coffee in the mornin.
I felt stupid as soon as I said it.
She laughed. You better get goin. Stop trying to sweet talk me away from Bri.
That stopped me in the doorway. I hoped she didn’t think that. Bailey I was just… I’d never.
She touched the side of my face gently. Relax Bruiser, I was just teasing you.
Her smile made me feel better, but only a little. I managed a fake sheepish smile of my own. I know that.
I made my way down the hall feeling pretty damn goofy. I don’t usually say stupid things like that. Mostly when I do, it when I am around someone like her.
The door to the conference room was open, so I went in. Brian was waiting there with two men. One was a kinda distinguished lookin guy in his mid to late fifties. The other was a pompous looking younger man and couldn’t have been anything but a lawyer. The two men were tryin their best to size me up. That was no small task.
Brian stood as I came in and got right down to business. Bobby Parker I would like you to meet Richard Campbell President of Campbell Oil. Mr. Campbell this is my partner Bobby Parker. He is the one you need to talk to. If we are going to take the job, it will be his decision.
The man offered his manicured hand and I completely covered it with mine.
Mr. Parker, I will get right to the point. I fear my daughter’s life may be in danger and I do not feel the police are up to the task of keeping her safe. She witnessed something terrible. The perpetrators have continuously threatened her life. One of my attorneys suggested I contact Mr. Kelly and request your services. I do believe you know him. His name is Bradley Harris.
I took the seat across from him. I know Brad Harris. What did your daughter see exactly?
The lawyer spoke this time. I am sure you are aware of the news reports of the grisly murder of Edward Collins? Miss. Campbell had the unfortunate circumstance of seeing it happen.
I could already tell I didn’t like this guy. He was obviously feeling the need to appear important, as lawyers are often prone to do. I feel the same way about most lawyers as I do about most federal agents. I really have no use for them and they tend to get on my nerves quickly.
I wouldn’t exactly call the Collins murder grisly. As I remember, it was a pretty clean hit. However, if the girl saw it she is no doubt in danger. I do have a question. How is it she was there? The murder was at Mohawk Park and late at night. That is not the kinda place people just happen to be. Especially not young women alone.
Mr. Parker, how Miss. Campbell happened to be there is not important.
I’ve never been accused of having a lot of self-control. What little patience I had now was long gone with him. It sure as hell does matter.
I turned my attention back to her father. If I’m gonna do my job, I gotta know everything. Why was your daughter in a closed park after midnight?
Campbell’s eyes avoided me. I am afraid my daughter has not been the same since her mother passed away. That park, and the zoo there, were places they went together often. She goes there now, from time to time. She says it makes her feel closer to her mother. Mr. Parker please, the police have not been able to find out anything about these people. I love my daughter. She is all I have left. I have no where else to turn. Will you help her?
I leaned back in my chair. Mr. Campbell, of course I’ll help her. That’s my job. How safe is the place she is staying?
I have her hidden at the moment, but she is understandably upset. I can not keep her locked away any longer. I would like to move her to my home in Jenks.
I wasn’t crazy about that idea. It would be way too hard to cover a crowded neighborhood.
Any other options? Your place in Jenks ain’t exactly my idea of a safe place.
I have a place, west of town. It is a small acreage with a house. It is set back in the trees and not very close to anything. You could take her there.
I already liked that idea better. I used the conference
