Jed Ames, a type of "country mouse" who ends up in "city mouse" territory, survives and thrives in a different world while keeping his "country mouse" identity.

I have been horse crazy for 60+ years. For reasons too involved to go into here I have always had a special attachment for the "problem" horse. For over two decades I have been helping people and horses around the world quickly past attention, trust, fear and respect issues in private work, clinics, web pages, videos and ebooks. Traditionally people bring horses from a herd setting geared toward the individual's needs into a social setting geared toward the needs of the group. This results in a "happy medium" relationship - as long as neither party does anything the other can't live with, they're fine. When they can't work out a suitable happy medium, the horse gets replaced. I teach people to control their horses by going into the horse world and quickly connecting with it there using the horse's natural dynamics then bringing the horse into the human world along with its natural dynamics. The "happy medium" relationship is replaced with a connected, communicating relationship. Because the horse knows what is expected of it and knows it can do what is expected of it, the relationship is never broken.

Chapter 1 Home On The Range

Ol Root was about as dependable as any horse could be. His big ol frame settin back on the rope kept many a cantankerous cow flat out for me to tie and doctor as needed. He was honest, gave ya a day's work for next to nothing, maybe a few oats at the end of the day. At the end of the day he was turned out in the open, hobbled so I wouldn't have to far to go to catch him in the mornin, instead of in the crude lot I'd fenced off with the rest of the string. I rarely used any of the back up string cause they weren't near as dependable as Ol Root, they were pretty much green as grass. They'd been roped from the ranch's brushy herd and assigned to the hands by draw. I didn't mind the green but on occasion they'd spook and buck and if I didn't have my saddle bags shut tight after a fence repair or a doctorin I'd have to go back lookin for my tools that had bounced out. I only had so many tools with me at the shack which was a long day's ride back to the main house for any replacements. Every ounce was important when it all had to be hauled in on horse back.
