About this ebook

Chelsie Baxter has never cared about playing the second-string ‘good girl’ to her popular and demanding best friend, Alexa. Basking in the social limelight that seems to follow Alexa everywhere, Chelsie gets to experience a world outside of her naturally introverted nature.

She’s spent years cleaning up Alexa’s relationship messes when the highly-sexed brunette wants her way and needs a loyal friend on her side. What’s one little harmless white lie when your best friend is pleading with you to be her alibi? Chelsie would reason that those were college boys and doomed relationships anyway, and if Alexa didn’t feel guilty, why should she?

But everything changes when Alexa gets engaged to a ‘reformed’ bad boy named Brody that seems to be her exact counterpoint when it comes to sexual confidence and getting what he wants. Except now suddenly, the players and schemers profess to only have eyes for each other. Or do they...

On the night before Alexa’s wedding, explosive secrets are revealed and the sexual tension is cranked high. Even good-girl Chelsie is not immune from it, as she is faced with a choice between loyalty and lust, and must make a game-changing decision that could turn everything upside down at the eleventh hour.

Ashleigh Lake

Ashleigh Lake is an up-and-coming author of erotic fiction. While her passion for writing began as a child, and also includes dramatic fiction and non-fiction pieces, her interest in erotica and bringing the voice of the modern twenty-something woman to the genre inspired her to continue her pursuits of writing highly explicit tales of scandal, intrigue and sexual mis-adventures. Her stories are tales of inner urges and dirty desires played out by real, relatable female characters that are willing to risk it all to get what they want. 'Good girls gone bad' and irresistible alpha bad boys are trademarks of many of her stories, which often include multiple twists and turns along the way. Some of her short stories have received Editor's Pick acknowledgements and received awards in international erotica writing competitions. You can find out more about Ashleigh at www.ashleighlake.com

    Little White Lies

The lines of loyalty, friendship and lust are blurred in this tale of two best friends gone astray.

    I. Chelsie’s Side of the Story

    Oh… fuck! she wailed.

Chelsie Baxter winced even before her best friend, Alexa, managed another long siren-sob obscenity before sullenly collapsing onto the floor of her bedroom in a heap of white silks and crinoline. Even the fabric of her Marchesa wedding gown rustled in protest, as though commanded by the bride-to-be’s need for drama.

Chelsie glanced at her hesitantly from where she sat cross-legged in the corner of the ensuite bedroom. She had been painstaking gluing borders of swarovski crystals onto the crisp white name-card placeholders that would decorate the tables at Alexa’s wedding the following evening. Now it seemed that Alexa was ready to take centre stage yet again.

OK, Lex, what is it now?

Alexa shot her a sharp look, her full lower lip pouting. That’s not a very supportive tone from my maid of honor in her hour of need, she quipped.

Sorry, it’s just that it’s been crisis after crisis today and…

Well, it’s not my fault you waited until 24 hours before to do the name-cards, Chelsie!

Chelsie looked at the statuesque brunette, whom she’d secretly decided was a bonafide Bridezilla with a measured degree of defensiveness. How was I supposed to know that seller on eBay was planning to go on holidays for two weeks before shipping the crystals to me!

Alexa threw her hands up in the air, as if to ward off any explanations or excuses.

"Whatever. I don’t want to argue about it. We have more important things to deal with right now. I just realized that I forgot my ‘something borrowed, something blue’ over at Brody’s house. You know his grandma’s antique locket with the aquamarine stone, well I left it at his place on the nightstand. Her eyes welled up in huge glistening tears to rival any precious stone. Seriously, what am I going to do?"

Well, Chelsie said diplomatically, just tell him to bring the locket to the church tomorrow. I’ll get it from him and we can put it on you before you walk down the…

Oh for god’s sake, she interrupted with an exasperated sigh. "You know that’s not going to work, Chelsie. I need to be wearing that locket for all the photos being taken in the morning before we get to the church.

Alexa looked at her then with the kind of baleful eyes that Chelsie knew all too well. It was that helpless, besieging look that she always used to get her own way. It had worked all through college when Alexa would beg her to be her alibi with suspicious boyfriends when she’d cheat on them. Oh, he’s not ‘the one’ Chelsie, don’t look at me like that. It doesn’t matter in the same way if it’s not true love, she would reason. ‘Please, pretty please, you just have to help me get out of this one, or I’ll just die. Just this one little white lie, and then I promise I’ll never ask another favor from you again."

One little white lie. What harm could it really do?

Chelsie would begrudgingly agree and grit her teeth as she lied to the man of the moment and tell them that Alexa had been with her for the entire night. She
