    Prologue

But Phoebe he hurt me. Thirteen-year-old Dakota cried brokenly to her sister.

Stop lying you little slut. Carter already told me how you threw yourself at him.

Phoebe please you have to believe me. He’s lying. I swear. He came into my bathroom while I was showering and forced me. Dakota cried as she shook her head denying everything Carter had said about her. I was a virgin. She sobbed.

Phoebe became enraged even more. Get out of my house you lying little cunt. I will make sure everyone know what a liar you are, trying to ruin an innocent man’s reputation just because you’re hot in the ass. Go on get out. I don’t ever want to see you again.

Dakota frowned as she ran from the house. She didn’t know what to do and she couldn’t face their mother. She would not be able to bear the disgusted looks her mother was sure to give her. Dakota thought sadly how she had never even kissed a boy. Tears flowed from her eyes because she didn’t understand why her sister did not believe her. She would never sleep with her sister’s husband.

Dakota reached in her pocket and pulled out all of her money. One hundred and eighty dollars, their mother had given her and her twin sister Phoenix money to buy matching outfits for a school dance. She thought of Phoenix and cried harder. She did not want to leave her but she had no choice. And she most definitely did not want Phoenix looking at her the way Phoebe had. Dakota thought once again of her mother. She knew she would miss her terribly but she would eventually get over it. Dakota wiped away her tears and began walking. With a determination she did not know she possessed she headed towards the bus station and bought the first ticket out of town.

    Chapter 1

Phoebe stood ringing the doorbell. The day was too hot for anyone to be comfortable which was why Phoebe was quickly becoming aggravated as she stood waiting in the hot sun with her latest friend Paul.

Here she handed the papers to Trina, I’m sure you and Bradley are glad to finally get theses so the two of you can rush off and get married.

Thanks but what took so long? I’ve been waiting all day for you. Bradley said you called saying you were on your way hours ago.

    Traffic was bad.

I know you was not stuck in traffic for six hours. Trina took a frustrated breath as she tried to speak civilly, Thank you Phoebe. We really appreciate you dropping these off.

Phoebe exhaled heavily she was aggravated. "Let’s not do this. I’m not in the mood to pretend like we like each other.

All I said was thanks nothing more. There is nothing wrong with being polite. Just so you know, it would have been nice if you took the time to pick up the phone and call to let someone know you’re running late. Anyways that’s not important. Trina rolled her eyes as she headed towards the front door. She hoped she could get by without any more drama.

    Phoebe made a disgusted noise.

Is there a problem? Trina asked irritably.

Don’t go acting all stank now that you have your papers in hand. Phoebe said with a raised eyebrow.

Trina released a frustrated breath she could not stand Phoebe. She suspected Bradley still loved her and that aggravated the hell out of her. She was tired of Phoebe coming around. So now with their divorce being final she thought maybe they could finally see some peace. Ok Phoebe. Trina said in an irritated tone.

    Phoebe laughed.

Trina raised an eyebrow, I will say this, only because it’s been nagging at me. It’s not appropriate the way you run around with all of these different men. You just signed your divorce papers. It seems as if you have a different man on your arm every time I run into you.

Paul gently grabbed Phoebe’s arm to let her know it was time they left.

Phoebe looked at Trina as if she was crazy. Appropriate? Who are you to tell me what’s appropriate? Remember whose husband you are sleeping with. Phoebe said with a raised eyebrow.

All I am just saying is maybe if you had cared more about him and less about his money and shopping, you and Bradley would still be together. Trina stressed in a sarcastic voice. And let’s be clear Bradley was engaged to me first. You just came along and stole him.

Phoebe eyed Trina hatefully. No let me be clear, if Bradley wanted you he never would have married me. Phoebe made a noise, See how easy it was for him to turn to me in his time of need. Phoebe was being sweetly cruel reminding Trina of how easily Bradley fell back in her bed even after they had gotten back together, I think you’re just jealous of me. I was and will always be the first woman he chose to marry. And trust me I know exactly what he likes and how he likes it.

Paul frowned at Phoebe, Come on now, that’s enough. Phoebe let’s go.

    Phoebe completely ignored him.

Trina took a determined step towards Phoebe Trust me you are not all of that. Or else the two of you would still be married. From what Bradley says the only good thing that came from his encounter with you was your good taste in furniture. Trina said angrily.

Come on ya’ll chill out. Paul’s words went unheard.

He would tell you that being his girlfriend and all. But ask yourself why would he come to me after the two of you got back together. Phoebe paused briefly before continuing, He never got over me. Besides he isn’t divorcing me, I’m divorcing him. Phoebe stepped purposely towards Trina and laughed as she and Trina locked eyes. He didn’t tell you that did he?

The silence in the room suddenly became deafening. Paul knew some of the things Phoebe said was out of line. If Trina whopped her ass she would deserve it. Neither would listen to him so he made his way towards the front door and waited.

Trina stood completely still as her anger took over. Now I’ve tried to act half way decent towards you but don’t get it twisted. Your ignorant ass got some nerves to come up in my house talking shit.

Phoebe made a scornful noise as she laughed. Phoebe was hot, tired, irritable, and sick of listening to Trina, so without thinking, Phoebe quickly stepped forward and smacked Trina in her face. However, before the blow landed Trina swung back, she jumped on Phoebe and started beating her with all she had. Phoebe held her own as she slung back. Unexpectedly Trina kneed Phoebe in the face. Phoebe cursed as she grabbed her face and fell. Phoebe knew she was at a grave disadvantage and thought if she was going to be down then Trina was going to be down too. Phoebe quickly kicked out sweeping Trina feet from under her. Trina barely missed hitting her head on a side table.

Trina was livid and literally wanted to put her foot up Phoebe’s ass. It was as if the gates of hell burst open as everything Phoebe had ever said or done to Trina flashed across her mind. When Trina thought of Bradley cheating with her then marrying her, she jumped on Phoebe whooping her without an ounce of mercy.

Simultaneously Bradley had walked in as Trina attacked Phoebe, That’s enough! He commanded then quickly rushed toward Trina to drag her off Phoebe. Bradley eyed Paul then shook his head disgustedly at the thought of him standing by the door doing nothing.

    Trina shook Bradley off.

Phoebe stood, adjusted her clothing and smoothed her hair This ain’t over bitch Phoebe was not happy Trina had gotten the best of her.

It ain’t nothing but space and opportunity. Trina said with a short laugh.

Phoebe you need to leave. Bradley was furious.

Trina looked as if she was about to step towards Phoebe so Bradley reached and grabbed her firmly by her arms stopping her in her tracks.

The room became completely quiet as Phoebe and Trina stared hard at each other both daring the other to make another move.

I said you need to leave. Bradley demanded in a no-nonsense manner.

    Phoebe and Paul left.

Trina what’s gotten into you? He shook his head in frustration, What was all that about?

Trina ignored his questions. If he had not cheated on her she would not have to deal with Phoebe. Trina was trying to ignore the rage she felt whenever she thought of Bradley and Phoebe together but she failed miserably. Bradley hardly ever talked about his marriage to her. She now wondered if he would still be with Phoebe if she had not divorced him. Trina looked at him disgustedly Go to hell she left him standing as she headed towards the kitchen. I should just leave his cheating ass once and for all, she thought furiously to herself.

Phoebe was furious as she checked herself out in the rearview mirror. Damn your ass was ready to flee like a bitch.

Paul laughed. He was very angry despite his cool demeanor, Flee like a bitch? You up in her house talking shit. How many men do you have? And Why you have to say all of that shit about Bradley? You still want him or something? Paul then laughed, It don’t even matter. You just mad cause Trina whopped that ass.

Just get out of my car. Phoebe demanded furiously.

Paul was laughing. He silently stepped out of Phoebe’s car and before he could even close the door, she sped off leaving him stranded. Bitch he muttered to himself as he pulled out his cell phone. He lit a black after finding a shady area to wait on his ride.

    Chapter 2

Bryce Blackburn was overjoyed as he escorted Camden Cane to the elevator. Thank you again. Bryce shook his hand firmly as the elevator opened.

Camden’s face remained blank as he stepped inside watching as the doors closed. Camden had no feelings or thoughts for Phoebe except that she was cold and calculating. Whatever Bryce had in mind for her was probably well deserved because there was so much more to Phoebe than anyone realized. They would give Bryce the full report on her only if asked; if not what little they gave him will suffice and the rest will be filed away. Camden exited the elevator, acknowledged the security guard and walked casually out the door.

Back in the office, Bryce leaned back in his chair and laughed as he toyed with an envelope. He smiled as he thought of Camden. Bryce had meet and became friends with him when he had done a four-year stint in the army. Bryce did not like being in the military so after his term was up he did not reenlist. Camden had done ten years in the Special Forces and his brother Greyson had done eight. When they got out they formed a company called Camden Grey Research, which found missing persons. It had taken a lot of talking on Bryce’s part to get them to help him considering the fact Phoebe was not missing. Phoebe my darling get ready because I’m on my way. Bryce smiled again as he placed the envelope in his jacket pocket, grabbed his keys and left.

Bryce parked his car in front of Phoebe’s massive home. As he got out, he looked up at the evening sky and smiled. What an absolutely marvelous day it has been. Bryce chuckled to himself as he closed the door and walked purposely forward.

Phoebe was surprised when she opened her door. Bryce what are you doing here? Phoebe gave a small smile. Bryce was one of those men that you could look at for an entire day and never get tired. He was, to say the least, very nice looking and ridiculously charming. Come in. She stepped aside for him to
