    Part 1

    (The Scarecrow)

    Chapter 1

It was late at night I was driving while Fisher lay sleeping next to me on the front passenger seat of our Jeep. I didn't think anything of it when we passed a gas station, the last one for miles as the gas gauge still read full. We had been driving for hours down an isolated country road, poor Fisher having done most the driving, was totally exhausted. We both decided to take time out and go on a road trip before we head off to college in different states. Although Fisher was my brother, we were very close growing up. We never fought like other siblings and after our parents died, we grew even closer. It was a hot and humid, clear, and bright moonlit summers night with hardly so much as a breeze blowing, perfect conditions for driving. Then without warning, the night started to get darker and darker if that was at all possible.

The bright moon and stars disappeared being replaced by dense mist within a matter of seconds, covering the road like a blanket, so thick not even the sharp headlights could cut through it. I looked over at Fisher, I hated to wake him, but I wasn’t not sure what to do.

Fish? Fish? Fisher! Wake up! I started off saying softly, but by the third utterance of his name I was shaking him violently.

Dude, chill I'm up, I'm up! He protested.

What should I do? I mean it's thick like freakon soup out there! I panicked the car barely moving.

Whoaw! What the Hell's this? He asked while rubbing his eyes, then motioned me to pullover to the side.

I turned into an old dirt road, switching off the engine then looked over at him for an answer.

We'd better wait it out. Do we even know where we are?

Well I've been following the GPS's coordinates programmed so…China? I retorted teasingly shrugging my shoulders.

Hardy-Har-Har! He smiled, rolling his big brown eyes at me.

Let's see, Miss. Smarty Pants. He responded pushing the screen to check our location, yet nothing happened the monitor was completely dead.

Ok that's not good, but don't panic maybe it's just the fog messing with the signal. We'll wait here until it's clear enough and if it’s still doesn't work then we'll check the road signs and the maps, the old fashioned way. He smiled reassuringly at me, probably noticed the fear on my face, and tried to make me feel better. I trusted him completely; he’d protect me till his last breath of this I'm sure. After waiting 3 whole hours and the fog showing no signs of lifting or even just clearing a bit, we finally decided to continue on our journey. Fisher luckily decided to take the wheel thank God for that as I, wasn't known for staying calm under pressure. He has always been the cool and calm one, in these types of situations while I was the dramatically hysterical type, running around screaming with my hands in the air. We perfectly complemented each other, mom used to say we were like opposite sides of the same coin.

Complete opposites in not only our looks, but our personalities as well. He had short straight black hair; I had long curly blond hair. He had brown eyes; I had blue, he had naturally dark skin; I was as pale as a ghost. He was the calm and calculating brainy extrovert and me I was the dramatically hysterical creative introvert. Only thing we did share however was our love for each other and for life. We took each day by the horns getting as much out of it as we could, never looking back, never regretting.

    Chapter 2

We took it slow and steady, the cars fog lights burning at the front and the emergency flashers pulsating at the back. We were taking no chances, being surprised by a car or even worse a truck. Keeping our eyes peeled, squinting and stretching for a better view. Creeping at a snail’s pace, now and again stopping to check for road signs then moving on again. Eventually, totally losing our way and finding ourselves driving into a remote area that neither of us recognized or could find on the map. Suddenly, the car started spluttering then stalled. Fisher and I looked at each other with confused expressions on our faces.

    What now? I asked.

Well it stalled, maybe it's overheated or out of gas. He said trying to calm me that, that was the problem, even though I knew, he had no clue what it really was. He might be a genius when it comes to numbers and formulas, but a complete duns when it came to cars just like me. We checked the heat and gas gauge and both registered okay. Fisher even opened the bonnet and fiddled with the car’s engine, burning his arm in the process on the radiator. No matter how many times he turned the key, the engine just wouldn't turnover. That sent me into a panic knowing it was well after midnight, and we were stuck in the middle of nowhere on the side of the road. Only being able to see a few feet infront of the car. The GPS was out and so were both our cell phones.

Just when we were about to give up Fisher checked the gauges one last time tapping on each one
