About this ebook

The Disney Dream was Disney Cruise Line's first new ship in 13 years. The Disney Magic and Disney Wonder were launched in 1998 and 1999, so much has changed since the time of their construction. The Disney Dream, launched in 2011, and its sister ship, the Disney Fantasy, which set sail the following year, make full use of technology to create fun and interactive experiences.

On the Disney Dream, you can interact with paintings, have a conversation with Crush the turtle, ride the Aquaduck water roller coaster, and have an outside view through your virtual porthole even if you're in an inside stateroom. Even if you've sailed on the Disney Magic or Wonder before, the Dream is literally a whole new world.

The Disney Dream is also much larger, with expanded spaces for kids, tweens, and teens. The ship is a destination on its own, even if you never disembark. Although it's not quite the equivalent of Walt Disney World at sea, it's just about as close as you'll come. Of course, it still features Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, which is a hallmark of any Disney experience.

If you're sailing on the Disney Dream soon or have already booked your cruise, this ebook tells you about everything this amazing ship has to offer. It covers the different types of staterooms, restaurants, entertainment options, shopping, the spa, the areas for kids, teens, and adults, and more. It also lists the differences between the Disney Dream and Fantasy.

The author, Barb Nefer, has taken over 80 Disney cruises, including several on the Dream. She attended the christening and sailed on the Dream's maiden voyage, and she shares her knowledge of this amazing new vessel with readers of this ebook.

    About the Author

    INTRODUCTION

Way back in 1997, I'd never been on a cruise even though I'd always wanted to try one. Unfortunately my husband didn't share my enthusiasm. At least he was a Disney fan, so we focused our vacation time on visiting Walt Disney World and I put my desire for cruising on the back burner.

That year, Disney set up a preview center in the Magic Kingdom to promote its upcoming Animal Kingdom theme park. We stopped in to check it out and also saw a preview of another project coming in 1998: Disney Cruise Line. Disney's new ship, the Magic, was under construction in Italy and would offer three and four night cruises once it set sail out of Port Canaveral, just about an hour from Walt Disney World.

The short cruise length, plus the Disney brand, convinced my husband to give cruising a try. We booked a Labor Day weekend, 1998, trip, and that first fateful trip on the Magic hooked us on cruising in general and Disney Cruise Line in particular. Now, more than 80 Disney cruises later, we average six sailings on the Disney ships each year.

I was very excited when the Disney Dream was announced. It was more than a decade since the Magic's launch, and technology had come a long way. I could only imagine how Disney Cruise Line would incorporate modern technology into its new vessel. I was lucky enough to be at the christening as well as on the maiden voyage, and since then I've enjoyed many trips on this gorgeous ship.

The Dream is, indeed, a technological marvel, but it still retains the beauty and ambiance of its older sisters. It can feel overwhelming to board that huge ship for the very first time, clutching an activity list that seems poised to bury you in choices. Hopefully this book will simplify things a bit and get you familiar with the Disney Dream before you even board so you can jump right in, forearmed with valuable knowledge, when your vacation date arrives.
