After twenty minutes of searching, Lucas Larson was unable to find anything at the yard sale worthy of spending his hard-earned money on. Used clothes, chipped plates, cups, puzzles, old VHS movies, and crafts didn't strike his fancy, nor the fancies of several other browsers. In contrast, his daughter found one thing, and it brought her joy at first sight—a rag doll. The toy had dull features, a colorless face, orange thread for hair, two buttons for eyes, dirty clothes, and a thick, black piece of yarn which formed its frowning mouth. The poor thing was frayed in almost every place on its soft little body.
