About this ebook

A high school teacher has mysteriously disappeared while on a class trip to FunnyVille Water Park. Shiloh, a self-described amateur teen detective, is determined to swim the deepest waters in order to find the culprit whom she believes kidnapped her teacher. She recruits her twin sister Sophia and good friend Jarred to help her. As they conduct their search, they run into one threatening situation after another, and the only thing that saves them is their quick thinking and lots of luck. But will luck continue to be in their favor as they track the culprit, or will they too end up becoming victims of the kidnapper?!

Hi. I have been hooked on reading mysteries ever since I read my first Nancy Drew book. That's when I was a preteen. And now that I'm in college, besides keeping up with my classwork, I find reading and writing mysteries is something that I'm totally committed to. When I meet new people, go new places, or indulge in new activities, the wheels of my mind start churning, and the next thing I know a new mystery has surfaced. I call my mystery series "Gemini Mysteries," because a set of twins are the lead characters, and they are double trouble. I hope you enjoy reading about them and their antics as much as I do writing about them.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

    Special thanks to all the people and organizations that helped provide opportunities and learning experiences for me as I completed my education as a homeschooler. It’s your instruction and guidance that helped prepare me for writing this book. Some of the main organizations are:

    • Beverly Arts Center; Mid-South HOUSE (Home Oriented Unique Schooling Experience);

    • Chicago Public Library (especially Woodson Regional and Chicago Lawn branches);

    • Evergreen Racquet and Fitness Club (James Walker, tennis coach);

    • ASE: Chicago Association of Black Storytellers;

    • Trinity Higher Education Center;

    • Olive Harvey Community College (especially Paulette Pennington-Jones, English 102 instructor);

    • Girl Scouts (Harriet Barney-Johnson, leader);

    • Marwen (art school); Chicago Park District;

    • Teen Advisory Council (Harold Washington Branch of the Chicago Public Library);

    • Namaste Center for Spiritual Living (Rev. Cheryl Hawkins, pastor);

    And in a class by herself is Dhamana Shauri, my proofreader.

    And to the many others not mentioned here that also lent a helping hand.

    Good advice. If I’d listened earlier, I wouldn’t be here. But that’s just the trouble with me. I give myself good advice, but I very seldom follow it.

    Prologue

    Hi, I’m Shiloh. I’m sixteen, and my life is pretty average. Well, if you consider being an amateur detective average. I know it may sound strange for a sixteen-year-old girl to solve mysteries. Most teenagers hang out with friends at the mall or buy fake I.D.s to get into a twenty-one-year-old-and-up-club. But none of that stuff interests me; I have no need to break the law or get back at my parents by rebelling and ruining the family name. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no angel, but I’d rather get in trouble for solving mysteries instead of illegally driving drunk on the highway.

    Anyways, I guess I should tell you more about my life. For starters, my parents are divorced. My dad lives in California, and is an ex cop. He was in this high speed car chase, and the car he was in flipped over. Luckily he didn’t get physically hurt badly, just some cuts and bruises. After that, his therapist advised him to leave the police force. Since then, when he’s not trying to keep up with me and my twin sister, Sophia, he’s been competing in karaoke contests that the local pubs and restaurants sponsor. And I must say he can carry a tune. Last contest he won $500, which went towards getting us all to Disney Land. My mom lives all the way on the other side of the country, New York. Sophia and I live with her during the summer, when school is out. Mom and Dad are complete opposites: Dad’s more of a risk-taker, while my mom is a stick in the mud. For example, last year my mom wouldn’t let us go into a pool because she saw Jaws two days before and was too terrified to let us get anywhere near the water. But when we’re at her house in New York, she does let us go to Roscoe’s Roller Rink, a place where kids sometimes skate so fast that if you fall in front of them, they hop over you like you’re part of an obstruction
