About this ebook

In spite of its prominence, the natural economic phenomenon has not been publicly acknowledged. We still live with an ancient paradigm egocentrically projected on disenfranchised populations. They, we, need to be rescued. Pioneers of the next century will find that task possible, even enjoyable, when they pass through this book, receive their tools and watch the world change around them. Thank you, in advance to those who make that pilgrimage.

It is medieval thought patterns that compel us to use economically toxic bureaucratic business structures that don't support civilized behavior. The advent of scientific innovation has now provided us with a "carrot and a stick."

The "carrot" is the peace, love and joy that authentic true economics will provide us. The "stick" is that if we fail to act our own technology will destroy the habitability of Earth and further degrade our humanity, making our existence a tragic expenditure of our predecessors' legacy. That leaves nothing for our children. We have a clear choice. Change our tragic circumstances, or remain a horrible statistic on the dark side of history.

What is a new paradigm in economics, has been mainstream among philosophical and religious thinkers for centuries. The next step is to focus our resources on the service to, and the protection of each other. Restricting access to resources for the purpose of inequitable reward will go away, as will war, hunger, and slavery. They will be replaced by respect, knowledge, love, peace, and joy, that will expand across the ages.

This book contains tools that will simplify the implementation of the new paradigm. The tools are fun to use, and they are effective. These are practical tools that you can use and share. They will enable you to confidently and proudly proceed.

If you dare read the book, you will emerge on the other side with a clear vision of the direction we must travel to escape the cyclonic downward spiral that is the path of history. We are pioneers traveling away from the historical stench of rotting bodies toward the sweet smell of paradise.

    Preface

What follows is a new economic paradigm where economics defines ethics as kind competence. Kind competence is a naturally occurring force in nature that allows us to improve who we are, as individuals, as a society, and as humble caretakers of this magnificent miracle that we have been so graciously allowed to inhabit.

Previously, the economic model was ethically lawless. It used ethics, or the lack thereof, as an instrument to extract profit. The appearance of ethics was used to trick unsuspecting suckers. Ethics was optional, and had no universal definition. The use of this dysfunction has fueled the tragedies of history, and the unnecessary present day tragedies that are unfolding before us.

It is my belief and fondest hope that the carefully chosen words in this book will reveal and dignify the efforts of the unsung heroes of our past, motivate and inspire our present generation, and leave a legacy of peace, pride and joy to those who follow.

    1 Why

Why would I write this book? There is not a financial incentive. This is my second book, and I am still trying to recover my losses from the first. Fame is not the motive. I have always avoided the spotlight, for reasons that will become apparent as you read the book. And, has any book with economics in its title ever become a best seller? I doubt it. When I tell you the reason that I'm writing it, you will think that I consumed a little too much mercury, that I am overmedicated, or that perhaps insanity just runs in my family. I want to assure you that, to my knowledge; none of those statements about my sanity are valid. I believe that I am perfectly sane, but on the other hand, I think that the rest of the world is nuts.

The reason I am writing this book is that I know how to stop war, famine, cruelty, and depression, and create peace, love, and joy. I am not the first one with this knowledge. It isn't rocket science, but it is avoided as if God would strike anyone who divulged it, and transport them straight to hell. I am divulging it here, and I think God is probably okay with it.

The book is about economics, and I am an unlikely author. I couldn't qualify for an Ivy League education on an academic basis, nor could I afford one. My work experience included a lot of hard, dirty, and dangerous manual labor, and I served six years in the Marine Corp reserves, I taught public school for twenty-six years. I have owned several businesses, most prominent of which were a telephone line construction company, a commercial fishing company, and a farm. I currently have a tree stump removal service. This work and business experience all took place in the US, Canada, and Central America. I was not trained to be an economic expert, but I became proficient by observing it for seven decades, from the inside, and I noticed that either economic planners don't understand basic economic reality, or they just choose to ignore it.

This book does not present a picture of the world, from a vantage point that you are accustomed to. It was shot from a location that is off limits, outside of the paradigm that is your security blanket. A quick glance at the picture is dismal and depressing, but upon close examination you will see what I see, unimaginable opportunity for peace, justice, and joy.

As for why I think, the world is nuts, the problems that plagued the world for centuries can be fixed, now. We human beings are not just animals in the food chain. We have the capacity to improve our own environment, if we choose to do so. To make this change, we must observe naturally occurring economic law. Economic law is like gravity. It's just there. Humankind has been ignoring its presence, and paying the terrible price for that ignore-ance. I think repeating the same mistakes that history clearly warned us about is nuts.

The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping the old ones. - John Maynerd Keynes

    2 Economic Ascension

Economic ascension is about kind competence; hence, the book Kind competence is about economic ascension. Ascension is a term that is usually used to describe moral movement in a positive direction, upward, toward heaven. Economic ascension also refers to movement in a positive moral direction, toward human betterment. For some, religious or ethical values are the moral compass that guides their lives, and they try to conduct their business in an ethical manner, and trust that others will do the same. However, many people don't have that built-in compass, or they may just choose to ignore it, for power, profit, or perverse enjoyment. However, mostly, people are drawn to uneconomic leadership for personal exploitive opportunities, because they feel that the exploitation is trivial, and those whom they are exploiting are less deserving than they are.

Economic ascension is what happens when there is economic balance, and economic balance probably cannot be achieved without clear business structures. What do those clear business structures do? They define and illuminate the business goals and activities in a way that holds everyone immediately accountable for good faith effort.

Without clear business structure, one business prospers by putting others out of business. Workers do more work for less compensation, putting less
