This is not an A to Z text book of English grammar and punctuation—other people have done that and I would never attempt such a feat! I absolutely do not claim to know all there is to know about the language and it’s remotely possible I may even have made a mistake or two in this text, although I sincerely hope not. This is simply my grumblings at today’s mangling of the language and a modest attempt to help those who want to improve their writing and public speaking skills. I do have a Bachelor of Arts, with Honours in History, and a Diploma of Arts in Professional Writing and Editing, as well as varied experience as a freelance editor. I firmly believe though, that any ability I have as a writer and editor comes from being brought up in rural Australia in the days before television was available there. I must admit I’m a big fan of TV now but as a child, with parents who were both prolific readers, I was rarely without a book in my hands. Parents, the best thing you can do for your children’s education is to read to them and make sure they see you reading for enjoyment as well.
