Nearly cutting him off, the lawyer’s smoothly trained court voice cut in. "Mr. Bahr, we at the National African American Constitutional Liberties Union do not take just any case that comes our way. Bear’s voice remained level, but his jaw clenched at the implication. "Sharp Industries is a very specialized company. Laurence leaned forward, his face breaching the invisible wall of the edge of the desk, eyes locked onto my partner’s like a predator invading another’s territory. "It will take more than just empty words to make this go away. I was sent to evaluate the merit of this case and so far findings in your favor have been...lacking."

I knew neither man would back down easily as Bear said evenly, "Our company doesn't need its resources or good name tied up in a frivolous lawsuit, but I will not settle this out of court. Tyrone Jackson has already stolen enough of this firm's assets."

Laurence stood, towering over us, stroking his chin in thought as he began to slowly walk around the desk. "Tell me, Mr. Bahr, do you like black men?"

"I have nothing against any ethnic group," Bear replied.

Laurence casually sat on the edge of the desk, leaning into Bear’s personal space, daring him to flinch or pull away.

"That is not what I asked, Mr. Bahr. In evaluating the merits of this case, I looked into your personal history.
