Upon returning from the Realm of Inner Consciousness, Con O’Grady meets a woman he mistakes for Misty, the lovely and flirtatious spirit who guided him on his previous journeys. After he professes his undying love - and more - to the beautiful stranger (in front of his boss and colleagues, no less!) Con is promptly thrown into psychiatric care under the supervision of the pompous Dr Thorndike, who dismisses Con’s explanation of his adventures as a fanciful delusion.
After a mere three months of treatment, to the doctor’s immense personal satisfaction, Dr Thorndike announces that this, the most challenging case of his professional career, has been successfully concluded, and he declares Con fit to resume his duties lecturing at the university.
Meanwhile, Melissa, the beautiful stranger (known by her friends as Misty), comes to share Con's adventures and with the help of the Pencil they travel through time and space until they find their ultimate adventure.

Simon Lee, now retired and living on the Queensland Sunshine Coast with his wife and two daughters, has enjoyed an adventurous life. An enthusiastic traveller, as a young man he backpacked through Europe, became a crocodile hunter in the Northern Territory and later worked as a freelance journalist in China, Africa, South America and the Middle East. He speaks fluent Spanish and Mandarin.
