She was born in Singapore, grew up in Kingston upon Hull, UK, and studied zoology at the University of Oxford, where she was also awarded a PhD for her research on intracellular symbionts in aphids. After university, Wendy worked in market research before moving into publishing. She is now a freelance science editor.
