    Introduction:

Using the Information in this Guide

The Ultimate Alternative Hair Guide is intended to help people who are advanced or at least somewhat experienced with dying or bleaching their hair. It is full of tips and tricks that are meant to get you the crazy color you want while keeping your hair in the best possible condition, whether it is long, short, straight, curly, young or old.

Additional links, videos, information and addresses are located in the Resources chapter at the end of the book, where you will find Where-To-Buy as well as visual aids and additional answers to any questions you may have.

It is highly recommended that you read through this whole book before starting the bleaching/coloring process, as much of the information can determine what you buy and where you get it, and how much product you will need (such as hair dye and bleach).

I (the author) am by no means a professional hair stylist, and by no means guarantee the results described in this book. If you have any concerns about the outcome, are worried about your hair or your hair is in a delicate or over-processed/damaged conditioned, consider going to a professional stylist in a salon to discuss your options.

    Happy Coloring!

A Note on photos: Pink and blue dyes are Special Effects brand hair dye in Atomic Pink and Blue Mayhem. Orange is Mandarin Orange by Jerome Russell's Punky Colour. Dyes (except for the pink, which is lightened from fading, and the aquamarine that is diluted with white conditioner), are applied full-strength to white-blond, bleached hair.

    Chapter 1

    Color Theory

    Picking Pink/Green/Blue or?

When it comes to dying your hair an alternative color, the rules of color theory still apply. Color theory is the basic rule behind what colors go together to achieve a certain effect. It applies to natural hair colors by complimenting a person's skintone and eyecolor to enhance their complexion. Using the wrong color can make a person look washed out or older than they actually are. This means understanding a person's natural base hair color. There are two different types of hair colors, warm and cool. Understanding which one yours is will determine what colors will work
