2a. Boy George was born in June 1961 in Bexley, London. His parents were originally from Ireland and he was one of six children. Five boys and one girl made up the O’Dowd family. His father picked on him as a kid.

He asked him to perform with a group he managed called Bow Wow Wow. The group already had a female lead singer named Annabella Lwin, yet George became more popular than Annabella. George left the group to form his own band.

5a. Boy George formed a new group with bass player Mikey Craig. Jon Moss was added as drummer, along with Roy Hay. The group was first called, In Praise Of Lemmings, then changed it’s name to Sex Gang Children. Finally the group was renamed Culture Club.

6a. Culture Club was a representation of the different nationalities, religions and sexual orientations of the members. George was an Irish cross-dresser. Jon Moss was Jewish, Mikey Craig was a black Briton and Roy Hay was an Anglo-Saxon Englishman. The diversity of the group was a good match for the new name: Culture Club. It was to be a group that would be accepted around the world.

was Culture Club’s first number one hit song in 1982. It reached number one in the UK and number two in the U.S.. The song became a number one hit in over ten countries around the world. The album was titled, Kissing To Be Clever and would provide two other top ten hits for the group.
