Author

Bil Holton

As a student of metaphysics for over twenty years, Bil, believes Biblical scripture has a deeper spiritual meaning, which enriches the literal text and elevates it beyond its dogmatic and parochial limitations. Dr. Holton currently shares spiritual leadership responsibilities with his wife, Cher, in the growing Unity Spiritual Life Center they co-minister in Durham, North Carolina. He is in the Unity Minister's Field Licensing Program, a licensed Unity Teacher, and has been affiliated with the Unity spiritual education movement for thirty years. His spiritual mission is to lead, guide, and inspire people all over the world to live faithfully, lovingly, and wisely at the speed of their Christ Consciousness. While he has authored and co-authored over twenty books with Cher, Bil believes his metaphysical translations of the Gospels are his most fulfilling works to date. On a personal note, the Holtons like to push the envelop and maintain their zest for life by taking what they call "Indiana Jones Adventures," such as white-water rafting, sky diving, and fire walking. American-style ballroom dancing is also in their DNA. Although they have retired their competitive dance shoes, Bil and Cher love to perform ballroom showcases and exhibitions. They enjoy time with two sons, beautiful daughters-in-law, seven incredible grandchildren, and a great-grandson.

    Author’s Preface

We have great reverence and respect for the Bible as a spiritual work. As the story of humankind’s evolving spiritual consciousness it deserves to be studied with an open mind and willing heart. The Bible takes us from creation to Adam to Jesus and from unenlightened human to enlightened spiritual being. Viewed this way, the Bible is an epic quest. It is truly a thoughtful account of the evolution of our evolving Christ Consciousness.

It is a journey we all must take, and the Scriptures tell us how to do it. It is an inner journey, a journey that demands that we go beyond the literal to the metaphysical, the allegorical, the metaphorical, if we are to understand its deeper wisdom and relevance to us today.

The difficulties, contradictions, and discrepancies that have proven so perplexing to tens of millions of people who have only read and studied literal translations of the Bible are dissolved from a metaphysical perspective.

For those willing to look past its literal meaning, the Bible is rich in timeless, hidden wisdom. The universality of a metaphysical interpretation takes the Bible beyond a mere churchianity perspective. It moves it past the exclusiveness of religion to the inclusiveness of spirituality.

Care has been taken neither to over stress its esoteric and metaphorical significance, nor to read into a passage more than is inherent within its intended purpose. Our hope is that you will be deepened by the connection between the literal translations and their metaphysical counterparts. Our sense is, if you give yourself permission, you will feel the tug of Spirit as you open your mind and heart to the hidden truths contained in each of the familiar scriptural passages selected for this work.

    ACTS

    Acts 1:6-8

The 21st Century King James Version

⁶. When they therefore had come together, they asked of Him, saying, Lord, wilt Thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

⁷. And He said unto them, "It is not for you to know the times or the seasons which the Father hath put in His own power.

⁸. But ye shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

    Acts 1:6-8

    Metaphysical Perspective

⁶. When we sense that our egocentric thoughts are being consistently raised to their higher spiritual essences (they had come together) we may wonder how long it will take us to totally align our human self with our Christ Self (Lord). It is not uncommon for us the show our impatience because at a deep soul level we know that we are Christed beings who can tap into the world of divine ideas (kingdom) within our highly evolved spiritual consciousness (our Israelian capacity).

⁷. Since we are spiritual beings in human form we will experience stages (times or seasons) of spiritual growth and unfoldment that quicken our awareness, lifting us to higher and higher levels of divine beingness. This process is underwritten by our oneness with the Eternal Isness (Father) so that we can unfold according to the parameters set by our own capacity for expressing our Christhood (power/authority).

⁸. When we fully quicken all of our spiritual centers we will feel the rush of the fiery serpentine energies (power of the Holy Spirit) and shall feel (be witnesses) the transformative power that comes from a consciousness operating at an optimum state of spiritually potent harmonics (the Jerusalem effect) and divine sensitization (the Judean outpouring). We also enjoy an incredibly keen sense of interior perception (our Samarian ability) that minimizes the subconscious patterns and influences (uttermost part of/ ends of the earth) which we have allowed to stifle our spiritual growth.

    Acts 1:9-11

    American Standard Version

⁹. And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

    ¹⁰. And while they were looking stedfastly into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

¹¹. who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.

    Acts 1:9-11

    Metaphysical Perspective

⁹. Once we become serious students of spiritual teachings (he said these things) we will be able to comprehend (as they were looking) the deeper mysteries of Christology that will be revealed to us (taken up in a cloud).

¹⁰. However, we must be careful not to ‘anthropomorphisize’ (look up into heaven [the sky]) the source of our divine nature. There will come a time when our human self and our Christ Self (two men) will be perfectly aligned (dressed in white).

¹¹. We must trust that our spiritual qualities (men[disciples]) are developed sufficiently enough [no need to look outside of us] to transform the earth-bound patterns and influences of our subconscious (Galilee). The journey we have taken to actualize our Christhood (Jesus taken to heaven) is the same process we undergo each time we move from materiality to spirituality.

    Acts 1:15-19; 23-26

The 21st Century King James Version

¹⁵. And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (the number of names altogether were about a hundred and twenty) and said,

¹⁶. "Men and brethren, it was necessary that this Scripture be fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who was the guide to those who took Jesus.

¹⁷. For he was numbered with us, and had obtained a part of this ministry.

¹⁸. Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the middle, and all his bowels gushed out.

¹⁹. And it was known unto all the dwellers
