INTRODUCTION
Spiritual and psychic development is a huge subject. Our 'Beginner's Guide' covered basic elements essential to form the foundations of good practice, but the variety of subjects and skills that can be covered is vast, so we always knew that a follow-up, advanced workbook would be on the cards - so to speak.
In the 'Beginner's Guide' we started you off with the key skills that you would need to get going, along with a variety of core subjects to spark your interest and help you find out where your natural abilities lie and what kind of work you enjoy most. It's always good to develop the things you enjoy and are good at first. This will give you confidence and experience that you can then take with you as you try new things. This 'Advanced Workbook' helps you to continue your journey of discovery, much like a map to help you work out which road to take next. We'll build on the basics, and we'll look at more advanced subjects and exercises that will challenge your abilities and also, we hope, help you continue to develop your own personal spiritual philosophy about life, the universe, etc.
As with the 'Beginner's Guide', start at the beginning and work through this workbook in order. It's been designed so that each subject helps you to progress to the next one. As you progress, re-visit the 'Beginner's Guide' and use it alongside this workbook. Some subjects follow on naturally from those we've already covered in the 'Beginner's Guide' and therefore take less explanation. Others are quite different so we go into more theoretical detail. You will also notice that some of the exercises from the first book are repeated in this one; this is deliberate. Each time you revisit subjects and exercises you'll not only improve your skills, taking them to a higher level, but you'll also recognise just how far you've come on your journey. This should give you a feeling of both accomplishment and confidence in yourself. For each subject we'll give you theories along with some practical exercises. Many of the visualisation exercises and meditations are available as MP3 downloads or on CD as part of the 'Advanced Audio Collection'. Full details about this audio collection will be published on the website www.stmpublishing.co.uk. So you can either read out the exercises or simply hit play on your CD or MP3 player. (Please note that, where indicated, some of the exercises require that at least one person acts as a facilitator and does not 'go off' with the other(s). Please don't overlook this just because you're using the audio products and don't have to do the reading.); 'Other things to try' gives you the option to build on the practical work if you wish, or to come back and do more on the subject another time; 'And another thing...' is a little bit of homework or research that you may like to have a go at to help you build your skills and abilities further.
To re-iterate what we said in our 'Beginner's Guide' by writing this book we do not wish to portray ourselves as the definitive experts. We are the first to admit that we still learn something new every day. Nor are we saying that our beliefs or opinions are the right and only way. They are simply ours and they may change in time, after all, who says you have to hold the same ideas forever? As with all books of this nature, some parts of it will resonate with you more strongly than others. However, even the parts that don't resonate so strongly will provide a base of knowledge that will help you to develop your own belief system further.
Having both grown up with psychic and spiritual experiences punctuating our childhood and teenage years, we have actively sought to develop our skills and work in the areas of psychic readings, mediumship, healing, and 'rescue' work. We believe that any degree of personal, spiritual and psychic development can help a person to change their life for the better. You can understand yourself and those around you on new levels, develop your intuition, help yourself and others through difficult times, learn to engage with the energy of living and, with experience, help to bring things about that will improve the world around you, as an individual, for your family and for the larger community.
If you've been working on your spiritual and psychic side for a while already you will probably have realised that this type of work changes you, your outlook on life, and occasionally the way that others are with you. You become more sensitive, see the world differently, and are more touched by and connected with many elements of the universe, people, places and events. You may also have noticed that you can begin to see the bigger picture, step outside of the chaos of living and see things in a little more of a detached, philosophical way. As you progress further you will begin to see how we all play our part. Keep an open mind and an open heart and accept all that the universe sends you.
In love and light always

Chapter 1
Key concepts of spiritual & psychic development
In our 'Beginners Guide' we looked at practical, physical and energetic basics that you need to understand in order to successfully develop your intuitive, spiritual and psychic skills. However, as you progress, there are other elements that are also important to understand. These concepts not only assist in developing your skills but in becoming more calm, reacting more positively to situations that occur in life and living with a more spiritual outlook. We have both discovered that this journey causes your life to become more fulfilling and less stressful, and this in turn allows life to flow better and it appears to become easier and more successful. So they are concepts that are certainly worth spending time on. So what are these concepts? We believe that your development and spiritual evolvement depends on these three things:
Have Patience - Have Acceptance - Have Faith
All three are needed, but are not total. By this we mean that you can have varying degrees of each, you don't need to be fully accomplished in one before you can move on to the other (thankfully), and it's okay to slip up occasionally too! They're also all linked, so each helps to enhance your grasp of the others.
Patience is essential as it takes time, practice and commitment to be good at the techniques that we show you in both of our development workbooks. We still practise all of them and don't pretend that they're all easy to learn, or that we're the best in the world at them. We're confident in our abilities but know that we need to continue to practise and develop.
Next you need to accept that all is as it should be and that you learn at the pace that's right for you. Events and lessons along the way help you to develop your understanding of how things work, how everything falls into place exactly as it should. Although in the early days of your journey you can't always see this. (Check back with yourself later though, hindsight is a wonderful thing.) In time, you come to know this more readily and be accepting of all that happens, as it happens.
When you start developing the first two of these three key elements - patience and acceptance - you can connect at a much higher level and start to understand the bigger picture of how things are. Even if you cannot verbalise that understanding, you can feel it, you can resonate with it, you can understand it in your heart and feel comfortable with it. You can then work in alignment with it and this allows you to develop at a faster rate. This is when you start to have faith. We aren't referring to a religious faith, but a deep understanding or inner knowing. An interesting point of note is that if you foster a sense of faith, however small and perhaps undefined, right from the outset, the whole process to develop true faith happens much quicker and more simply. This is because you're emitting the essence of faith to the universe and you must therefore attract it right back to you. You must have faith in yourself, in your place in creation and in your universal awareness, It allows you to listen for guidance and answers and to recognise when you hear them, to make the best choices and take responsibility for your actions,
There are a number of ways that you can develop these key concepts. Here are our tips:
Practically you can increase your level of patience by setting yourself little tasks, such as watching a timer for a full minute. Helen found that she always used to take food out of the oven or microwave before the set amount of time had fully elapsed. 'Five seconds left on the microwave timer? That's nothing, just open the door!' So she set herself the task of waiting until it was fully finished every time. Then wait for it to reach zero, and count to five, slowly, before taking the food out. Just these simple exercises really helped. She noticed that she grew less impatient generally, and at the same time, more accepting that everything was just as it should be. Yoga, tai chi, relaxation and breathing exercises will all help to increase your patience.
To help with your acceptance think about a situation in the past that hasn't gone to plan initially. Write about it in your journal if you're using one to track your development. What had you wanted to happen and why? What went wrong or didn't happen? Now think carefully about the outcome, what did you learn as a result? Was there a different or more beneficial outcome? Once you've looked at one experience, take another, and another. Do this exercise as many times as you can until you start to really believe that everything has happened just as it should. This will help you to accept that when things don't go quite to your plan in daily life, there's always a good reason for it. You may never know what that reason is, but trust that it's for the best. And use your notes or memories of past experiences as backup to help. After all, if it worked out for the best in the past, why wouldn't it in the future? You will eventually stop becoming quite so frustrated at being held up at red lights, or strangely losing your keys as you're about to leave home, and accept that you were meant to be delayed for some reason. (But please don't use this as an excuse for laziness, or being consistently late; respect for others is also important.)
Spending time with yourself, both out in nature and in meditation helps too. Being out in nature takes away the noise and stuff of everyday life and helps you to connect with the universe. Meditation helps you to still the body and still the mind. In stillness you go beyond your physical self, beyond your own thoughts and desires. You can connect deeply and profoundly with yourself and with the universe.
Start a gratitude book, or get into the habit of regularly, perhaps daily, writing in your journal what you're grateful for in your life. Start by listing
