Many times I have been asked "Can anyone become Psychic?" The answer to this is very simple. Everyone is born with Psychic abilities (a sixth sense); think of babies in the crib looking at some ' unseen’ being and laughing and gurgling at them. Think of a child with his/her imaginary friend or those many ‘weird’ co-incidences.

One of the main problems we encounter is how we can keep these abilities in a useable and workable state throughout our lives whilst trying to juggle life’s commitments. This is an extremely tough, and for some impossible, task. This is why many people develop their abilities later in life.

This is a step by step beginners guide to psychic and mediumship self development
which I started writing after being asked if I could teach people Psychic development via email. This book explains what psychic ability and mediumship is about and takes the beginner through various steps and exercises to help them develop the skills needed to become proficient and responsible Psychics and Mediums. I hope that by following my guidelines Mediumship will become an enjoyable and problem free journey for all those that embark on it. As well as covering all aspects of spiritual development I also include the legal aspects associated with working as a psychic or medium.
The book has been produced with as little emphasis on any particular religion as possible. Any references or terminologies that appear to implicate a particular deity or religion are purely there to substantiate the average person’s understanding of this particular type of development.

Mediumship has been my passion for over forty years now, in fact, ever since I first discovered what it was. I never set out to be a Medium, I never had the desire or the calling that many people talk about, for me it was something that was always there. My first encounters with Mediumship were as a very young child, when I heard voices calling me and would see things that were not actually there. I once told some friends that I could see their dead granddad sitting in a chair in their kitchen, and described him, which met with a very negative response. I always thought that everyone could ‘see’ the same things that I could so I never hid it, but when I became labelled as ‘the weird kid’ I soon learned to keep these things to myself. As I got older I realised the good I could do for people with my ‘gift’; and my love affair with the spirit world began. There is a down side to being a Medium, but the good far outweighs the bad.

I started writing ‘When Spirit Calls’ after being asked if I could teach people Psychic development via email. I recently completed a Clairvoyancy course with a well known online college and was quite appalled at the lack of coverage of what I consider to be important safety and legal issues, especially as the said course carries a recognised qualification. Having spoken to many people who have had readings from untrained and irresponsible Tarot readers (and those calling themselves Mediums’), and with the growing popularity of all things Paranormal, I thought it was time to teach trainee Psychics and Mediums the importance of acting responsibly when working in this field.

This book explains what psychic ability and mediumship is about and takes the beginner through various steps and exercises to help them develop the skills needed to become proficient and responsible Psychics and Mediums. I hope that by following my guidelines Mediumship will become an enjoyable and problem free journey for all those that embark on it. Unfortunately, as with most academic books, the fun side of the development is not always apparent in the text but once you start doing the exercises and getting results I am sure that the passion and fun that I feel will also be felt by all of you.

Very young children are prone to seeing spirits because they have not been conditioned otherwise, when they reach school age this is usually drummed out of them by family and peer pressure. Don’t be silly, people will think you are mad, Act sensibly, they are told

The abilities still stay with us but they are much more deep rooted, and harder to access, as we do not tend to use them through fear of being ridiculed; telling someone that you hear voices can be met with some very negative response. These abilities tend to resurface strongly during teenage years/puberty, only to be pushed aside again as the sexual energies start to die down.

We all have a huge portion of our minds that we do not use, where a lot of long forgotten information is stored. To work with Psychic ability is to tap into this area of the brain and make it function in the way nature intended. Outside influences, people thinking that we are 'a little odd' and giving us a wide berth, embarrassment, lack of confidence; all contribute to us putting this ability to the back of our minds to be stored there, unused, for eternity in some cases.

We can re-awaken these senses.

Chapter 2

So You Want To Develop Your Psychic Ability?

As with any form of study, Psychic development requires a large amount of commitment. This commitment will definitely involve setting aside some time for meditation, sitting in development circle, reading, practising exercises etc. It will involve monetary commitment for such things as development circles, any courses you wish to take, books, and equipment, etc. You will need to reorganise your life to make the time for your development which will, in all probability, take quite some time, usually several months or years, depending on how far you want to progress. You will also need a quiet place to relax and meditate.

This is why a development circle is useful because it gives you a place to practice, and helps you to set aside the time, without being disturbed. In a later chapter I will give you some hints on finding the right circle.

In time, and with practice, you will be able to find your own sacred space within yourself (in your own mind) where you can go when you need to take a few minutes away from the routine of everyday life. I will explain how to do so later in this book.

You should not attempt Psychic or spiritual development if you are fearful or irrational; you need a mind that is strong, purposeful and capable of self - discipline.

In the early stages of your development you will notice many significant changes within your body. Your senses will increase and become more receptive, you become more aware of the subtle energies surrounding you, and you discover your ‘sixth’ sense. As your crown chakra opens up to the universal energy and your sensitivity increases you may see flecks, sparkles, grids or balls of light or energy. You may experience ‘cob webbing’, shadows or movement out of the corner of your eye. Your hearing will become enhanced, you may hear voices or your name being called, there may be humming or other noises in your ears. Fleeting smells and the feeling of someone or something being close to you may also be experienced. These sensations are the early signs of ‘spirit’ and ‘guides’ trying to make contact. Other signs that may be experienced are shivers, crawling sensations, vibration around the head and ears, tingling of the scalp and pressure on the crown of the head (like someone pressing on it). Your emotions and thoughts will fluctuate; with sudden waves of happiness, sadness, loneliness, restlessness or anger, for no apparent reason. Your sleep patterns may change and you may dream more. Your waking hours will be more creative and inspired, and as your energy increases you may feel encouraged to lead a healthier lifestyle. You begin to see the world through new eyes, and feel more loving and ‘at one’ with all creation. You will find that you have the need to break free of old habits, and restrictive lifestyles, that hold back your development. You will be faced with issues from your past and at times you will feel very lost.

This is a time for deep cleansing; clearing out the old to make way for the new. You will experience many profound events and sensations; these will have great meaning to you as your awareness blossoms, trust your intuition and instincts. You may encounter a series of meetings and apparent ‘coincidences’ these may involve people, numbers, pictures, etc; these are all part of the greater plan, they are there to aid your development.

Psychic and mediumistic development will transform your life; usually the changes will be positive but sometimes they will involve giving up certain things or leaving certain people behind.

So, you have decided that you can meet the above criteria and are ready to develop your Psychic abilities. The lessons in the following chapters are intended as a guide to help you on the first steps of your spiritual pathway. It is, however, recommended that you sit in a development circle with a professional Psychic/Medium in charge. Please follow the guidelines carefully and adhere to the few simple rules that are laid down for your protection.

Your spiritual journey starts at the very beginning taking you from the very basics, through Psychic abilities > Psychic readings > Mental Mediumship. It is important that you take each step in order and progress at your own pace making sure that you are fully conversant, comfortable with, and able to do each step to the best of your ability before moving on. Remember 'practice makes perfect'.

When you first sit for Psychic or Mediumship development it is best not to have any preconceived ideas of what you want to become, allow your development to progress naturally.

Self Discipline
