Day Care
Quick Tips
Do the dogs play with each other? Many kennels don't allow this to avoid a dog getting hurt in a sudden fight and to reduce their insurance costs. They have their staff walk or play with the dogs (sometimes at additional cost), but there's no group play.
You determine what would be best for your puppy. Some are social butterflies and some are timid souls who would be overwhelmed with multiple dogs.
Never use a day care until you've made a physical inspection of the place. Is it clean, without stench, fenced in and safe? Is the temperature comfortable for your puppy?
Never use a day care that allows the bully breeds: American Pit Bull Terriers, Miniature Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Bull Dogs, Bull Terriers or dogs mixed with one of those breeds to play with the other puppies or dogs.
I realize some people will disagree and that's fine. You job, however, is not to promote the civil rights of pit bulls. Your job is to protect your puppy; you're the only one who can.
There ALWAYS should be someone with the dogs when they’re out of their crates - watching via monitor does not count. A pack of dogs playing can easily and quickly turn into a dog fight.
Some people dismiss the large box stores like PetSmart but firm corporate policies mean that there is always an attendant with the dogs in their day camp. Some local smaller day care facilities may not provide that. Don't use them!
You also may find it difficult to find a day care that operates on weekends. PetSmart does and some kennels near major airports are open 24/7. Most day care, however, is set up for Monday through Friday.
The good
This can be a great way to socialize your puppy in a safe setting. Any good day care is going to screen clients. They may want your puppy to take a temperament test or stay a few hours at the day
